Crochet Hook4.5 mm hook, H/8 or 5 mm hook

Materials:

  • 5mm (H) hook & 4.5mm (7) Hook.  If you don’t have a 4.5mm hook use a 4.25mm (G) hook instead.
  • Double knit (8ply) white, orange & black yarn
  • Stitch marker
  • Wool needle
  • 2 x 20mm Black buttons
  • Stuffing

Abbreviations:

  • At the end of each round just carry on, do not join with a slip stitch.
  • Mark the start of each round and then move marker as a round is completed.
  • HK - hook
  • CH - chain
  • SS – Slip Stitch
  • HDC – half double crochet
  • HDC Inc – Half double crochet Increase.  Increase by placing 2 hdc in 1 stitch.
  • HDC Dec – Half double crochet decrease.  Yarn over hook, through 1st stitch, yarn over hook through, hook through next stitch, yarn over hook pull through.  Yarn over hook and pull through all the loops.

Gauge:

  • 7 sts & 6 rows = 2”
  • If your hat is coming out too big go down one hook size and vice versa if it’s too small.

  1. Using 5mm (H) hook and white yarn.
     
  2. Ch 2 (or use magic circle)
     
  3. Round 1) 6 hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook (6)
     
  4. Round 2) 6 hdc inc (12)
     
  5. Round 3) *1 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (18)
     
  6. Round 4) *2 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (24)
     
  7. Round 5) *3 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (30)
     
  8. Round 6) *4 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (36)
     
  9. Round 7) *5 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (42)
     
  10. Round 8) *6 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (48)
     
  11. Round 9) *7 hdc, 1 hdc inc * x 6 (54)
     
  12. Round 10) *8 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (60) (1 -3 yrs go to round  13)
     
  13. Round 11) *9hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (66) (3 – 10yrs go to row 13)

  16. You need another 13 rounds for each of the sizes.
     
  17. (Total quantity of rounds  1 – 3 yrs 24, 3 – 10 yrs 25, 10 yrs+ 26)
     
  18. When you have finished the above slip stitch x 2, finish.

 

Nose

  1. Orange yarn & 4.5mm (7) Hook
     
  2. Round 1) Ch 10, ss to join
     
  3. Round 2) Ch 2, 10 hdc, ss to join
     
  4. Round 3) Ch 2, 10 hdc, ss to join
     
  5. Round 4) Ch 2, 10 hdc, ss to join
     
  6. Round 5) Ch 2, 1 hdc dec, 8 hdc, ss to join
     
  7. Round 6) Ch 2, 1 hdc dec, 7 hdc, ss to join
     
  8. Round 7) Ch 2, 1 hdc dec, 6 hdc, ss to join
     
  9. Round 8) Ch 2, 1 hdc dec, 5 hdc, ss to join
     
  10. Round 9) hdc dec until it comes to a point, finish.
     
  11. Attach Nose to hat (remember to stuff before attaching)

 

Mouth

  1. Black Yarn & 4.5mm (7) Hook
     
  2. Ch 2
     
  3. Round 1) 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hk, ss, finish
     
  4. Attach to hat
