Crochet Santa Gift Tag

Materials:

  • 1 ball Lily® Sugar’n Cream yarn in Red (A)
  • 1 ball Lily® Sugar’n Cream yarn in Soft Ecru (B)
  • 1 ball Lily® Sugar’n Cream yarn in White (C)
  • 5 mm (U.S. H or 8) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Small amount of black worsted weight yarn for belt
  • Glue-on googly eyes
  • Glue

 

Gauge:  15 sc and 16 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

 

Instructions:

Body

  1. With A, ch 21.
     
  2. 1st row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch.
     
  3. Turn. 20 sc.
     
  4. 2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
     
  5. Rep last row 4 times more, joining black yarn at end of last row.
     
  6. Next row: With black, as 2nd row, joining B at end of row.
     
  7. Next 6 rows: With B, as 2nd row. Fasten off.

Hat

  1. With C, ch 12.
     
  2. 1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (Yoh and draw up a loop in next st. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – Cluster made. *1 sc in next sc.
     
  3. Cluster in next sc. Rep from * to last ch. 1 sc in last ch. 11 sts. Break C, join A. Turn.
     
  4. 2nd row: With A, ch 1. 1 sc in each st to end of row. Turn.
     
  5. 3rd row: Ch 1. Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sc. Yoh and draw through all 3 loops on hook - sc2tog made. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sc. Sc2tog. Turn.
     
  6. Rep last row to 3 sts.
     
  7. Next row: Ch 1. Draw up a loop in each of next 3 sc. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc3tog made. Fasten off.
     
  8. With RS facing, join A with sl st in side of first row of A. Ch 1. Work 1 row of sc around side edges of Hat, working 3 sc in tip of Hat.
     
  9. Fasten off.

Beard

  1. With C, ch 21.
     
  2. 1st row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch.
     
  3. Turn. 20 sc.
     
  4. 2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. (Sc2tog) 5 times. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
     
  5. 3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. Draw up a loop in each of next 5 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc5tog made. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Fasten off.

Finishing

  1. Fold Body in half and sew bottom and side seam. Sew Beard and Hat to Body. Glue googly eyes to front as shown in picture.
     
  2. Tie: With A, ch 31. Fasten off. Thread tie through tip of Hat.

Perfect! Absolutely perfect. My grand kids will love these. And nothing to worry about breaking, tearing or being tossed into the trash. I think, with a little modifications, I can turn one into a Mrs. Claus too. How cute would that be? Thank you for offering this little cutie!
