Baby Pullover Crochet Pattern

Use this crochet baby jacket pattern from Bernat Yarns to create a warm pullover for the new arrival. A cozy pullover crocheted with a pretty texture is perfect for winter. Example is in white and pink, but adjust the colors to your own preferences.

Crochet Baby Pullover

 

Materials:

  • Yarn: 1 (2-2) balls Bernat Baby Bouclé (100 g/3.5 oz) Main Color (MC) (Pink), 1 (1-2) balls Contrast A (white)
  • Crochet Hook: Size 6.5 mm (U.S. K or 10½) or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • 3 buttons.

Gauge:

12 sts and 12 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in pat.

Sizes:
12 mos, 18 mos, 24 mos
Chest measurement: 18" [45.5 cm], 20" [51 cm], 22" [56 cm]
Finished chest: 21 1/2" [54.5 cm] 24 1/2" [62 cm] 27 1/4" [69 cm]

 

Pattern:

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

Back:
**With MC, ch 32 (38-42).
Foundation row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *Ch 1. Miss next ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end of ch. Join A. Turn. 31 (37-41) sts.
1st row: With A, ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. *1 sc in next ch-1 sp. Ch 1. Miss next sc. Rep from * to last 2 sts. 1 sc in next ch-1 sp. 1 sc in last sc. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. *Ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from * to last 2 sts. Ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in last sc. Join MC. Turn.
3rd row: With MC, as 1st row.
4th row: With MC, as 2nd row, ending with join A.**
Rep last 4 rows for pat until work from beg measures 11 (12 1/2-13 1/2)" [28 (32-34.5) cm], ending with 1st or 3rd row. Fasten off.

Front:
Work from ** to ** as given for Back.
Cont in pat until work from beg measures 8 1/2 (10-11)" [21 (25.5-28) cm], ending with 1st or 3rd row.

Neck shaping:
1st row: (RS). Pat across 12 (13-15) sts (neck edge). Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
2nd row: Ch 1. Draw up a loop in each of first 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook -sc2tog made. Pat to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. Pat to last 2 sts. Sc2tog. Turn. 10 (11-13) sts.
Cont even in pat until work from beg measures same length as Back to shoulder. Fasten off.
With RS of work facing, miss next 7 (11-11) sts. Join yarn with sl st to next st. Ch 1. Pat to end of row. Turn.
1st row: Ch 1. Pat to last 2 sts. Sc2tog. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 1. Sc2tog. Pat to end of row. Turn. 10 (11-13) sts.
Cont even in pat until work from beg measures same length as Back to shoulder. Fasten off.

Sleeves:
With MC ch 24 (26-28).
Proceed in pat as given for Back for 2 rows.
Next row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first st. Pat to last st. 2 sc in last st. Turn.
Work a further 2 rows even in pat.
Rep last 3 rows 5 (5-6) times more, taking inc sts into pat. 35 (37-41) sts.
Cont even in pat until work from beg measures 6 1/2 (7 1/2-8)" [16.5 (19-20.5) cm], ending with 1st or 3rd row of pat. Fasten off.

Finishing:

Neck edging:
Sew right shoulder seam. With RS of work facing and MC, work 7 sc down left front neck edge, 7 (7-9) sc across center front neck edge, 7 sc up right front neck edge and 11 (13-15) sc across back neck edge. 32 (34-38) sc. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. *Ch 3. 1 sc in 3rd ch from hook to form picot. 1 sc in each of next 2 sts. Rep from * to last sc. 1 sc in last sc. Fasten off.
Sew left shoulder seam from armhole edge, leaving 2¾ ins [7 cm] open from end of seam to top of neck edging.

Bottom edging:
With RS of work facing and MC, ch 1. Work 27 (31-37) sc evenly across bottom edge. Turn. Work as given for neck edging.

Sleeve edging:
With RS of work facing and MC, work 17 (19-21) sc evenly across lower sleeve edge. Work as given for neck edging. Place markers on front and back side edges 5 3/4 (6-6 3/4)" [14.5 (15-17) cm] down from shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams. Make 3 button loops on front shoulder, first to come at neck edging and rem 2 spaced evenly between. Sew on buttons.
