This collared baby cardigan from Heather Davidson would make such an adorable addition to a new baby's wardrobe! Use these free crochet sweater patterns to make a mini cardigan with matching cuffs and collar.

Collared Baby Cardigan

Materials:

  • 3.5oz of Baby Fingering 3ply Yarn in Main Color
  • Small amount of Contrast Color Yarn
  • G (4.50mm) & E (3.50mm) crochet hooks, 5 Medium Buttons

Size to fit approximately: 0-3 Month Baby or Reborn doll

GAUGE - 13dc and 7 rows of dc measures approx 2” x 2” (5cm x 5cm) with E (3.50mm) hook
 

Instructions:

Jacket (Back) - With E (3.50mm) hook and contrast color, ch53, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (50dc + ch3).

Next Row - ch3, * 1dcf in next dc, 1dcb in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc and ch3 to turn, 1dcf in next dc, 1dc in top of turning ch. Turn. Starting with 1dcb, rpt last row two more times. Fasten off.

Next Row - Join in main color, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each dc to end, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (51sc)

Pattern Rows
Row 1 - ch1, sl st in base of ch1,* 1dc in next sc, sl st in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 2sc, 1dc in next sc, sl st in last sc. Turn.

Row 2 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each st to end. Turn. (51sc)

The last 2 rows form the pattern, rpt both rows until 23 complete patterns have been worked in all or work measures approx 8⅟2”. Fasten off.

Right Front - With E (3.50mm) hook and contrast color, ch25, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (22dc + ch3).

Next Row - ch3, * 1dcf in next dc, 1dcb in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. Starting with 1dcb, rpt the last row two more times.

Next Row - Join in main color, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each dc to end, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (23sc)

Continue with Pattern Rows 1 and 2 from back until 18 complete patterns have been worked or work measures approx 7”. Turn. (23sc)


Shape Neck – Work Pattern Row 1 to last 4sc. Turn leaving last 4sc un-worked.

Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each stitch to end. Turn. (19sc).

Next Row – Work Pattern 1 to last 2sc. Turn leaving last 2sc un-worked.

Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each stitch to end. Turn. (17sc). Rpt last two rows once. Turn. (15sc).

Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 from back until front measures the same as back. Fasten off.

Left Front - Work as for Right front until work measures 7”. Turn.

Shape Neck – ch1, sl st over first 5sc, ch1, sl st in base of ch1, 1dc in next sc * sl st in next sc, 1dc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 2sc, 1dc in next sc, sl st in last sc. Turn.

Next Row - ch1, 1sc in each stitch to end. Turn. (19sc).

Next Row – ch1, sl st over first 3sc, ch1, sl st in base of ch1, work Pattern Row 1 to end. Turn.

Next Row - ch1, 1sc in each stitch to end. Turn. (17sc). Rpt last 2 rows once.

Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 from back until front measures same as back.

Sleeves X 2 - With E (3.50mm) hook and contrast color, ch33, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (30dc + ch3).

Next Row - ch3 * 1dcf in next dc, 1dcb in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (30dc + ch3). Starting with 1dcb, rpt last row 2 more times. Fasten off.

Next Row - Join in main color, ch1, work 1sc in each dc to end, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (23sc). Work Pattern Row 1 once.

Starting with Pattern Row 2 continue by working Pattern Rows 1 and 2, keeping continuity of pattern and increasing 1sc on next and each end of every 4th row (Pattern Row 2) by working 2sc in base of ch1 and 2sc in sl st at the end of row until 43st remain. Continue without further shaping until sleeve seam measures approx 5½” including cuff. Fasten off.

Right and Left Front Borders (Work both bands the same) With RS facing and G (4.50mm) hook rejoin contrast color yarn with a sl st in first stitch, starting with ch3, work 33dc evenly along front edge to neck. Turn. (33dc + ch3).

Next Row - ch3, * work 1dcf in next dc, 1dcb in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. Fasten Off. Slip stitch both shoulder seams to back of cardigan.

Collar - With RS facing, contrast color and G (4.50mm) hook join yarn to neck edge after front band with a sl st, ch3, work 55dc evenly all around neck edge to before front band on second side. Turn. (55dc + ch3)

Next Row - ch3, * 1dcf in next dc, 1dcb in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc and ch3, 1dcb in next dc, 1dc in 3rd of ch3. Turn. Rpt last row 8 more times, making 10 rows in all for collar. Fasten off.

Finishing - Fold sleeves in half, place centre to shoulder seams and sl st in position, sl st side and sleeve seams together, sew in and tie off loose ends of yarn. Turn through to RS. Fold collar back and tack to cardigan to secure. Sew on buttons, use gaps between dc’s for buttonholes.

Does anyone have a toddler pattern for this sweater.
