Materials:

  • 4 skeins Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Magenta
  • 3 skeins Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Light Raspberry
  • 4.5 mm (US G-6), 5.0mm (US H-8) crochet hook, or size needed for gauge

 

Gauge:  5 rows – 3 ¼".  Shell, sc, Shell, sc – 4 ¼”

 

Instructions:
Afghan Measures:  47” x 58”
Special Stitches:  Shell--7 dc, V St:  dc, ch 2, dc in the same stitch

  1. Row 1 (RS):  With magenta and G hook ch 162, sc in 2nd ch from hook, [skip 3 ch, Shell in next ch, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch] across, ch 3 and turn.  (20 Shells)
     
  2. Row 2:  Dc in sc, ch 2, sc in center st of Shell, ch 2, [V St in next sc, ch 2, sc in center st of next Shell, ch 2] across, 2 dc in last st, ch 3 and turn. 
     
  3. Row 3:  3 dc in same st as turning ch 3, sc in next sc, skip next ch space, [Shell in ch space of next V St, sc in next sc, skip next ch space] across to last 2 st, skip next st, 4 dc in last st, ch 1 and turn.
     
  4. Row 4:  Sc in first st, ch 2, V St in next sc, ch 2, [sc in center st of next Shell, ch 2, V St in next sc, ch 2] across to last 4 st, skip next 3 st, sc in last st, ch 1 and turn. 
     
  5. Row 5:  Sc in first st, skip next ch sp, Shell in ch space of V St, [sc in next sc, skip next ch space, Shell in ch space of next V St] across, sc in last sc, ch 3 and turn.
     
  6. Row 6:  Dc in sc, ch 2, sc in center st of Shell, ch 2, [V St in next sc, ch 2, sc in center st of next Shell, ch 2] across, 2 dc in last st, ch 3 and turn.
     
  7. Color Scheme:  Rep Rows 3 – 6 consecutively for a total of 94 rows as follows: 10 rows magenta, 6 rows light raspberry, 6 rows magenta, 6 rows light raspberry (3 times), 10 rows magenta

 

Afghan Edging

  1. Round 1:  With magenta and H hook work along top edge, 8 dc in first right corner dc, *sc in sc, Shell in ch 2 space of V St, repeat from * across, 8 dc in last dc.
     
  2. Work along side edge evenly space alternating 29 scs and 28 Shells in side edge, 8 dc in sc of first row.
     
  3. Work along bottom edge, *sc in ch below Shell, Shell in ch below sc, repeat from * across, 8 dc in sc of first row.
     
  4. Work along side edge evenly space alternating 29 scs and 28 Shells in side edge, join to beg dc and fasten off.
     
  5. Round 2:  With light raspberry and H hook work along top edge (sc, ch 3, sc) in center dc of  right corner 8 dc, ch 4, *(sc, ch 3, sc) in sc, ch 3, sc in center dc of Shell, ch 3, repeat from * across, ending ch 4, (sc, ch 3, sc) in center dc of corner 8 dc, repeat pattern around entire afghan, join to beg sc and fasten off.
