Give your walls a triple letter score with this Scrabble Wall Art.  Great for living rooms, nurseries, and bedrooms, this creative home decorating idea is sure to give your room a smart new look. Your Scrabble piece can be themed, like with kitchen words or words about creativity, or can be the names of people in your family.  Let your creativity run wild with this fun and nerdy project!

Materials:

  • Enough wood rectangles to spell whatever words you’d like.  For this piece, you’ll need 22 rectangles (I bought Lara’s Crafts Unfinished Wood Rectangles)
  • Black paint
  • Paint brush
  • Letter stencils (or a very steady hand!)
  • Felt
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Hooks/Nails/Hammer

Instructions:

  1. After you’ve decided what words you want to create in your Scrabble art piece, stencil the letters on your wood rectangles.  You can buy letter stencils at the store or make your own by cutting out letters and tracing them on your rectangles.  If you have a steady hand, try drawing it on yourself.  Use a pencil before filling in the letters with paint.  Let dry for at least 24 hours.

  2. Once your rectangles are dry, lay them out in the arrangement you want.  Turn them all over so the painted side is face down (you’re now looking at the backside of the arrangement).

  3. Cut your felt strips about 4 inches wide and 3-4 inches long.  Use your glue gun to place one strip of glue on one rectangle and another on the rectangle right next to, above, or below it and then place a felt strip down so it reaches both glue strips and holds the two rectangles together.  Repeat until every rectangle is joined to all the rectangles surrounding it.

  4. As for hanging it, I found the easiest way to go about it was to hammer small nails between the rectangles, through the felt stripping.  Look for nails with a small head and hammer them between the weak areas of the piece.  See below (the green circles are where I hammered nails to attach the piece to the wall).

What a fun idea! I'm thinking about two ways I will use this craft. One for my job at the local library, and one for home. For home, I am going to spell our names and FAMILY, LOVE, HOME. For the library, the ideas are endless! Thanks for the great idea.

What a terrific idea for your child's room. You can really make some positive saying to help boost your child's self esteem. Really love this idea.

This looks so cool! I like this idea. So wonderful. But because my craft class focus on paper / board, I will try to create these scrabble tiles using chip boards. If the tiles look less cool because of the color (I think the chip board is too dark for this craft), maybe I will wrap the chip board with paper. Well, we'll see! )

What a truly inspired idea! I can think of a few places I can use this. Like in my kitchen, bath room and craft room. I can leave subtle hints like pick up towels, refill ice trays, that sort of thing. I think it will be so cute. I just have to figure out how to work in " don't touch my scissors"!

These are a perfect idea for my new house!

These obviously need to be larger tiles than the official Scrabble Game tiles, but you forgot to tell us what size was used.

This is a perfect idea for disguising a boring white wall! I think I would hang the tiles in a reading nook or sunroom. When all my friends come over for a game night they will surely be impressed with my crafty enthusiasm towards board games. For a funny twist, I may spell some "big points" words like SEQUOIA or words with a Q but not a U (aren't those always the tricky letters to get rid of in the game!). I can't wait to get this project finished!

Fantastic, just right for my craft room!!! Just got to get my carpenter son to make me the rectangles now and I will be well away!!!
