Textured Block Afghan
This afghan knitting pattern creates a warm cover with wonderful texture and coordinating blocks of color. The classic fringe on this knit afghan with both colors is a nice touch. You can knit up this Textured Block Afghan pattern for yourself or a friend, as it makes a wonderful housewarming or birthday gift. Materials:
If you're using Bernat Super Value Yarn SOLIDS (197 g/7 oz)
- 3 balls Bernat Super Value Yarn in color of your choice (MC)
- 3 balls Bernat Super Value Yarn in color of your choice (A)
- Size 5.5 mm (U.S. 9) knitting needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
If you're using Bernat Super Value Yarn OMBRES (142 g/5 oz)
- 5 balls Bernat Super Value Yarn in color of your choice (MC)
- 5 balls Bernat Super Value Yarn in color of your choice (A)
- Size 5.5 mm (U.S. 9) knitting needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
Gauge: 17 sts and 28 rows = 4 ins 10 cm in box st pat.
Instructions:
Measurements: Approx 47 x 58 ins 119.5 x 147.5 cm.
Box Stitch Pattern
- 1st row: (RS). K2. P2. Rep from to end of row.
- 2nd row: K2. P2. Rep from to end of row.
- 3rd row: P2. K2. Rep from to end of row.
- 4th row: P2. K2. Rep from to end of row.
- These 4 rows form box st pat.
First Strip (Make 3)
- With MC cast on 40 sts.
- Work 68 rows in box st pat.
- 69th row: (RS). With A, knit.
- Beg with a 2nd row work 67 rows in box st pat.
- 137th row: With MC, knit.
- Beg with a 2nd row work 67 rows in box st pat.
- 205th row: With A, knit.
- Beg with a 2nd row work 67 rows in box st pat.
- 273rd row: With MC, knit.
- Beg with a 2nd row work 67 rows in box st pat.
- 341st row: With A, knit.
- Beg with a 2nd row work 67 rows in box st pat. Cast off in pat.
Second Strip (Make 2)
- Work as given for first strip substituting A for MC and MC for A.
- Sew strips alternating first strip and second strip.
Fringe
- Cut 13 inch 33 cm lengths of MC and A. Taking 3 strands of each color tog, knot into fringe on short ends of Afghan 2 ins 5 cm apart as illustrated. Trim fringe evenly.

Take 3 stands of your colors 13 inches long. Fold in half, and with a crochet hook start at the corner. Insert hook and draw through a loop. Like you would thread a needle. Pull up through all 6 strands. This will create your tassel. Hope this helps

I am also a beginner but since no one from this website is answering your question it sounds to me like it means just knit across the entire row with no purls or other special stitches while you are attaching a new color You have just changed from MC to A on the th row and you should just knit across with the new color before going back to doing the box stitch pattern Because you work rows in box stitch pattern on th row you are adding a new color so just knit it on and then return to box stitch pattern Also After doing more rows you are on row add and you change colors and then knit in every stitch with the regular knit stitch all across the row and then you return to the box stitch pattern again Each time you finish rows you change colors and…Read More knit it on all across the row with the knit stitch then go back to the box stitch pattern This is my interpretation so I hope I am correct I am no expert but this is what it means to me
