Colorful Striped Table Setting

Using this free crochet pattern from Bernat Yarns will benefit you as it comes with place mats, napkin holders and coasters. It'll be great to set the table when you have guests over. They're all easy patterns for you to follow and are great for beginning crocheters.  Excellent for summer, these crocheted place settings are great for outdoor BBQ's or picnics.  You could even make a set for the other seasons by switching your yarn colors to suit fall, spring, and winter.

Colorful Striped Table Setting

Materials:

Placemats-set of 2 (set of 4)

  • 2 (4) balls Bernat® Handicrafter Cotton (50 g/1.75 oz) yarn in Blue (MC)
  • 2 (3) balls Bernat® Handicrafter Cotton (50 g/1.75 oz) yarn in Green (A)
  • 2 (3) balls Bernat® Handicrafter Cotton (50 g/1.75 oz) yarn in Orange (B)
  • 2 (3) balls Bernat® Handicrafter Cotton (50 g/1.75 oz) yarn in Pink (C)

Napkin Rings and Coasters-set of 2 (set of 4)

  • 1 (2) balls Bernat® Handicrafter Cotton (50 g/1.75 oz) yarn in Blue (MC)
  • 1 (1) ball Bernat® Handicrafter Cotton (50 g/1.75 oz) yarn in Green (A)
  • 1 (1) ball Bernat® Handicrafter Cotton (50 g/1.75 oz) yarn in Orange (B)
  • 1 (1) ball Bernat® Handicrafter Cotton (50 g/1.75 oz) yarn in Pink (C)
  • Size 5 mm (U.S. H or 8) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

 

Gauge:  14 sc and 16 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

 

Instructions:
When changing colors, work to last 2 loops on hook of last st, then draw new color through rem 2 loops and proceed.

Place Mat
Approx 12 x 18 ins [30.5 x 45.5 cm].

  1. With MC, ch 43.
     
  2. 1st row: (RS). 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 2 dc). 1 dc in each ch across. 41 sts. Join A. Turn.
     
  3. 2nd row: With A, ch 1. 1 sc in each dc across. Join MC. Turn.
     
  4. 3rd row: With MC, ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each sc across. Join A. Turn.
     
  5. 4th row: As 2nd row. Join B. Turn.
     
  6. 5th row:With B, as 3rd row. Join C. Turn.
     
  7. 6th row:With C, as 2nd row. Join B. Turn.
     
  8. 7th row: As 5th row.
     
  9. 8th row:With C, as 2nd row. Join A. Turn.
     
  10. 9th row:With A, as 3rd row. Join MC. Turn.
     
  11. 10th row:With MC, as 2nd row. Join A. Turn.
     
  12. 11th row: As 9th row.
     
  13. 12th row:With MC, as 2nd row. Join C. Turn.
     
  14. 13th row:With C, as 3rd row. Join B. Turn.
     
  15. 14th row:With B, as 2nd row. Join C. Turn.
     
  16. 15th row: As 13th row.
     
  17. 16th row: With B, as 2nd row. Join MC. Turn.
     
  18. 17th row:With MC, as 3rd row. Join A. Turn.
     
  19. Rep 2nd to 17th rows for Stripe Pat until work from beg measures approx 18 ins [45.5 cm] ending on a 4th or 8th row of pat. Fasten off.
     
  20. Edging: 1st rnd:With RS facing, join MC with sl st to any corner of Mat and work 1 row of sc evenly around outer edge, working 3 sc in corners. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  21. 2nd rnd: Ch 1. Working from left to right, instead of from right to left as usual, work 1 reverse sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

 

Napkin Ring

  1. With A, ch 21.
     
  2. 1st row: (WS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch across. 20 sts. Join MC. Turn.
     
  3. 2nd row:With MC, ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each sc across. Join A. Turn.
     
  4. 3rd row:With A, ch 1. 1 sc in each dc across. Join MC. Turn.
     
  5. 4th row: As 2nd row.
     
  6. 5th row:With A, ch 1. 1 sc in each dc across. Fasten off.
     
  7. Sew sides tog to form ring.

 

Coaster
Approx 5 ins [12.5 cm] diameter.

  1. With B, ch 2.
     
  2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  3. 2nd rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. 12 sc. Fasten off.

 

Flower

  1. First Petal: 1st row: Join MC with sl st to front loop only of any sc. *Ch 1. 2 sc in same sp as sl st. 2 sc in front loop only of next sc. 4 sc for petal. Turn.
     
  2. Next 3 rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc of petal. Turn. Next row: Ch 1. [Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all 3 loops – sc2tog made] twice. Fasten off, leaving a long end.*
     
  3. Second Petal: **Rejoin MC with sl st to front loop of next unworked sc of 2nd rnd. Rep from * to * once.**
     
  4. Third to Sixth Petals: Rep from ** to ** 4 times more. 6 petals.
     
  5. 3rd rnd: Join A with sl st to rem back loop of any sc of 2nd rnd. Ch 3. 1 dc in same sp as sl st. 2 dc in each rem back loop around. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. 24 dc.
     
  6. 4th rnd: Ch 3. 1 dc in same sp as last sl st. *1 dc in next dc. 2 dc in next dc. Rep from * to last dc. 1 dc in last dc. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. 36 dc.
     
  7. 5th rnd: Ch 3. 1 dc in next dc. *2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in each of next 2 dc. 2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in next dc. Rep from * to last 4 dc. 2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in each of next 2 dc. 2 dc in last dc. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. 50 dc.
     
  8. 6th rnd: Ch 1. Working from left to right instead of from right to left as usual, work 1 reverse sc in each dc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
     
  9. Using yarn ends from each petal, sew around outer edges of petals.

This is the perfect time of year, early spring, to begin to assemble a full table setting in this pattern. What a great housewarming gift for a young couple! You often times don't think of fun table settings for parties and get togethers. I say make it using red, white, and blue also! Cotton yarn works best because it's easily washed and absorbs drink and food spills.

I love this pattern!!!!!!
