Breakfast-Time Basketweave Placemat

You probably have the materials for this placemat craft already at home! The Breakfast-Time Basketweave Placemat by Tiffany Threadgould is a great way to make use of old cereal boxes and milk cartons. Your kids will love having their favorite cereal box cartoons looking up at them from the table!

Materials:

  • empty milk carton
  • empty cereal box
  • dental floss
  • scissors
  • ruler

Instructions:

  1. First, make sure your milk carton is clean. Disassemble your carton and cut into ½-inch strips. Do the same with the front panel from your favorite cereal box.

  2. Weave together. (See illustration below.)

  3. Finish the edges by weaving dental floss around the perimeter so your beautiful new placemat doesn't come apart. Secure the floss by tying the ends in a double knot. Now you have a new placemat made from freshly recycled materials!
