Who? You! Gift Box and Keepsake Earrings

By: Maria Nerius with the help of Emmy Bouwman

Owls are always a popular and whimsical theme. The paper inspired the earring sets. Let the paper inspire your creativity. This same project on how to make jewelry from Maria Nerius would be delight in a holiday, pets, or girly theme!

Bag with Handles
Materials
:

  • Owl themed decorative paper (or pick your own theme!)
  • DCWV Glitter papers that coordinate with decorative paper
  • Sizzix Bigz Pro Die Bag w/Handles
  • Big Shot Express
  • Glue
  • DecoColor extra fine black and white opaque paint markers.
  • Fiskars personal trimmer
  • Filler: light green paper grass

Instructions:

  1. Cut out box with die cutting machine. The box already has score lines for folding so fold the into bag and adhere any flaps. I adhere all flaps: sides and bottom.

  2. Fill bag with paper grass or your choice of filler. You’ll need to fill at least half full to support the earring tags.

  3. You can cut out your earring tags at this time. Project shown used four sizes: 2 1/2"x 4 1/2", 2” x 2 1/2", 2”x 2 ¾” and 2 1/2"x 2 1/2". Use photo as a template for placement. Two small owls were cut out and the purple owl set has a coordinating mat on it while the blue owl set has a sticker and the green owl set has “Whoooo? You! written on it. You can also outline shapes and edges with the paint markers.

  4. Fill with your earring sets! That was a very easy way to make a keepsake or gift bag/box.

Blue Owl Earrings

:

  • 2 Owl Charms (Oriental Trading)
  • 2 Wire earring findings
  • 2 Jump rings
  • DCWV Orange glitter paper
  • Making Memories ‘birds of a feather’ sticker
  • Small hole punch
  • Jewelry pliers

Instructions:

  1. Using a jump ring attach charm to earring findings using your jewelry plies. Remember to open the jump ring side to side, do no open by pulling ends vertically. Close jump ring.

  2. Make the earring card with glitter paper and punch holes for earrings using small hole punch. Add a sticker for interest.

Green Owl Earrings
Materials:

  • 2 Owl Charms (Oriental Trading)
  • 2 Wire earring findings
  • 2 Jump rings
  • 2 Eye pins
  • 4 Green seed beads
  • 2 Yellow seed beads
  • DCWV brown glitter paper
  • Black permanent marker
  • Small hole punch
  • Jewelry pliers
  • Wire Cutters

Instructions:

  1. Thread onto each eye pin a green, yellow, then green seed bead.

  2. Using a jump ring attach owl charm to bottom of the eye pin.

  3. Using your jewelry plies make an eye at the top of the eye pin (eye pins come with one eye end and one straight end, you are using the straight end to create an eye by creating a loop). Create your loop and trim with wire cutters.

  4. This style of wire earring finding lets you slide on the eye or loop to finish.

Purple Owl Earrings
Materials
:

  • 2 Owl Charms (Oriental Trading)
  • 2 Wire earring findings
  • 2 Long chain with ball earring findings (Rings & Things)
  • 4 Blue square beads
  • 2 Gold E beads
  • DCWV brown glitter paper
  • Black permanent marker
  • Small hole punch

Instructions:

  1. This style of earring finding is a long chain. One end is a ball and the other is a metal post. The post is placed into your earring piercing and gently pulled to the length you want at front. It’s different and fun!

  2. Thread your owl bead followed by blue square bead, gold E bead, then blue square bead. Repeat for second earring. It’s as easy as that! No need for any jewelry tools.
