Why after the 3rd round does the pattern then go 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 etc?

Hi Dalmatianmom The third row already gives you the instructions for the odd numbered rows: 3rd and following alt rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each dc and ch-1 sp across. Turn. So they give you the specific instructions for the even rows because they have to be specific to get the spaces in the right place but the odd rows (3, 5, 7, 9, 11, etc) are just single crochet across the entire row. Does that help?

This scarf was very easy to make and looked very classy when it was done.
