Green Valley Leaf Motif Scarf should be a delightful challenge for the experienced crocheter to tackle. It's a crochet scarf pattern full of pretty little embellishments that make it perfect to wear on a fancy night out.



MATERIALS

  • NaturallyCaron.com Spa (75% Microdenier Acrylic/25% Bamboo; 6 oz) Shown in: #0001 Rose Bisque
     
  • One size US H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge.
     
  • Yarn needle


FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Scarf measures approximately 10"/25 cm wide x 58"/147.5 cm long


GAUGE

In pattern stitch, 1 leaf = approx 2 1/4"/5.5cm wide (at widest point) and approx 3 3/4"/9.5cm long (at longest point).

Gauge is not critical for this project.

STITCHES USED

Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), double treble crochet (dtr), half double crochet (hdc), quadruple treble crochet (qdtr), rev sc (reverse single crochet), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (sl st), treble crochet (tr), triple treble crochet (trtr)

 

SPECIAL TERMS

dc2tog: Double crochet 2 together—[Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops] twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

picot: Ch 4, slip stitch in 4th chain from hook.

qdtr: Quadruple treble crochet (qdtr)—(Yarn over) 5 times, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, [yarn over and draw through two loops] six times.

trtr: Triple treble crochet (trtr)—(Yarn over) 4 times, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, [yarn over and draw through two loops on hook] five times.

 

NOTES

1. Scarf is worked with 2 full leaves and 2 half-leaves across.

2. Leaf-spines are worked in odd–numbered rows. The leaves are then shaped in even-numbered rows by working stitches up one side of a spine and down the other side.

3. Leaves are joined in odd-numbered rows with dc2tog between leaves.

 

SCARF

Row 1: Ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 8 ch (first leaf-spine made), *ch 21, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 8 ch (next leaf-spine made); repeat from * 2 more times, turn—4 leaf-spines.

Row 2: Sl st over first 9 sts, ch 8 (counts as trtr, ch 1), *working along opposite side of foundation ch of leaf-spine, trtr in free loop of first ch (same ch as first sc), [ch 1, qdtr in next ch] twice, [ch 2, trtr in next ch] twice, ch 2, dtr in next ch, ch 2, tr in next ch, ch 2, dc in next ch, ch 2, sc in next ch (same ch as last sc of leaf-spine); sc in next 11 ch, sc in first sc of next leaf-spine, ch 2, dc in next st, ch 2, tr in next st, ch 2, dtr in next st, ch 2, [trtr in next st, ch 2] twice, [qdtr in next st, ch 1] twice, trtr in last sc of leaf-spine, ** ch 3; repeat from * 2 more times, ending last repeat at **, ch 1, trtr in top of beginning ch, turn.

Row 3: Ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 8 ch (first leaf-spine made), sc in first ch-1 sp of previous row, *ch 5, sk next ch-1 sp, dc2tog over next ch-1 sp of this leaf and first ch-1 sp of next leaf (sk the ch-2 sps), ch 5, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 8 ch (next leaf-spine made), sc in same ch-3 sp; repeat from * once more, ch 5, sk next ch-1 sp, dc2tog over next ch-1 sp of this leaf and first ch-1 sp of next leaf (sk the ch-2 sps), ch 5, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in turning ch-sp, ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 8 ch (next leaf-spine made), sl st in turning ch-sp, turn.

Row 4: Sk the sl st, sl st over first 9 sc, ch 8 (counts as trtr, ch 3), *working along opposite side of foundation ch of leaf-spine, trtr in free loop of first ch (same ch as first sc), [ch 1, qdtr in next ch] twice, [ch 2, trtr in next ch] twice, ch 2, dtr in next ch, ch 2, tr in next ch, ch 2, dc in next ch, ch 2, sc in next ch (same ch as last sc of leaf-spine); sk next sc, sc in next 11 sts, sk next sc, sc in first sc of next leaf-spine, ch 2, dc in next st, ch 2, tr in next st, ch 2, dtr in next st, ch 2, [trtr in next st, ch 2] twice, [qdtr in next st, ch 1] twice, trtr in last sc of leaf-spine, ** ch 3; repeat from * 2 more times, ending last repeat at **, ch 1, trtr in in same ch as first sc along opposite side of foundation ch of leaf-spine.

Rows 5–30: Repeat last 2 rows 13 times (or until scarf is desired length).

Last Row: Ch 1, sc in first ch-1 sp, *ch 5, sk next ch-1 sp, dc2tog over next ch-1 sp of this leaf and first ch-1 sp of next leaf (sk the ch-2 sps), ch 5, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in next ch-3 sp (at top of next leaf); repeat from * once more, ch 5, sk next ch-1 sp, dc2tog over next ch-1 sp of this leaf and first ch-1 sp of next leaf (sk the ch-2 sps), ch 5, sc in turning ch-sp, turn.

Do not fasten off.

 

FINISHING

Edging

Round 1: Beginning in corner, ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in same corner, [5 dc in next ch-5 sp, dc in next dc2tog, 5 dc in next ch-5 sp, dc in next sc] 3 times, 3 dc in corner st; working in ends of rows along side of scarf, *6 dc in end of next row, dc in base of next 9 sc (of leaf-spine)]; repeat from * to next corner, 3 dc in corner; working along opposite side of foundation ch, dc in each ch across to next corner, 3 dc in corner; working in ends of rows along other side of scarf, **dc in next 9 sl sts (of leaf-spine), 6 dc in end of next row (turning ch-sp); repeat from ** to beginning; join with sl st in first dc.

Round 2: Ch 3, *dc in next 5 sts, picot; repeat from * all the way around all edges, working 3 dc in each corner; join with sl st in top of beginning ch.

Fasten off.

Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
