Uh, Fair Isle Technique is a knitting method, and this is a crochet pattern. Ums????

Maybe a youtube tutorial on how to make the hat would be very helpful.

I am wondering what Fair Isle Technique is? I would like to make this hat but I can't figure out the pattern. Thanks!

I am looking for an earflap hat and everywhere I go online I see this one. It's too bad that you can't buy Caron Simply Soft QUICK yarn anywhere. There is Simply Soft but that isn't heavy enough. The quick yarn is more like chunky Number 5. Could be why fmchrisman had to go to a larger hook. Anyone have any ideas?

I made this hat but had to go to a larger hook (J) to get the size I needed and the hat is still to tight. I am making this for someone for Christmas and find the instructions very difficult to understand. I have crochet for several years - not an expert but can figure out a lot of patterns. The placement of the earflaps was confusing for me. I ended up putting the hat on my head and positioning the flaps according to my head and ears. I, also, could not find what PM was. Can you please help me understand my problems.

I might just buy some Caron International Simply Soft Yarn to make this cute hat to keep my ears warm when I'm walking & as an introduction to Caron yarn which I have never used even though I subscribe to the Caron Yarn newsletter.

This yarn is available at Wal-mart here.. It is a very soft yarn made from recycled water bottles..It works up almost the same as the a sport yarn... I often use it, and have made an afghan for my hubby out of it...Just get what you need of it, they change the colors pretty often...too often for my liking, if I find one I favor...SWT"TATER

An addendum to my last comment about this hat: I was asking about the type of yarn used, "Caron International's Simply Soft Quick," because the word quick in the title led me to believe it was a chunky yarn. I went to Caron's website but could not find it and the only one with the color "blue mint," (used in their pattern here) was a worsted weight. Also, the yarn used here is supposedly in a 3 oz skein, have never seen chunky yarn in such a small skein, so I thought I was safe using a worsted weight. But after making it and it turned out so small I am concerned that I should have used a bulky yarn. Sure hope someone can answer this question for me. Thanks ahead of time.

The cutest hat! Does anyone know anything about the Caron International's Simply Soft Quick yarn used in the pattern? I have never heard of it, but am assuming it is worsted weight. I made my first hat with worsted in small/med. and it turned out cute but very small. I thought this was a woman's hat but the one I made didn't fit my 6 year old granddaughter. The next I also made in sm/med but I used a softer worsted yarn, for more elasticity, and a size "J" hook--much better. I'm still curious about the type of yarn they used.

Great pattern. Actually the best. Just follow the pattern and pay attention to the PM and it turns out just fabulous. I loved it.

Where did you get lost? Pattern looks good to me....but without knowing where you got lost its hard to tell you what is going on. Comment back for me.

I was very disappointed this pattern did not make it clear how to crochet this hat. Is there anyone that can break it down to where I can understand it better?
