In early spring, now would be the time to begin your beach tote and beach mat crochet project. This is a smart-looking set suitable to gift to a friend. As moms, we understand the importance of having that tote with room for everything but the kitchen sink! I like that this is a matching set, too. A bonus is the fact that Lily Sugar 'n Cream can be had at a sale price quite often at Michaels craft stores! So this is a pretty budget friendly pattern.

Easy. 1st ball crochet 22stitches, do not cut string, new ball and existing loop add another 23stiches, then the same again with ball 3. On second row Orkney in reverse, but don't forget to twist the strands when changing balls. Similar when knitting fair isle patterns. I hope this helps Sabine

I don't understand how you start the bag. How do you get the front to be all one piece?

I see only the pattern for the tote bag, and it is pretty confusing - and I'm an experienced crocheter. Is there a pattern for the mat?

Hi there, Directions for the mat are under the header that says "Finishing." Happy crocheting!

I want to make this bag but I don't understand how to get started. It says to chain with ball 1, 2 &3 how do you join them?

Where is the pattern for the beach mat?

The back of the bag is 64 inches long - part of that is the mat.

Is this pattern for the tote bag only? Where it says "front" would that be side one and would "back" be side two? Where is the pattern for the mat? Thank you

can you do this with the yarn that is already multi colored? If so, how many chains would I work for a row?

Both the front and back are 71 stitches wide.

How many balls for JUST the bag? Anyone?

I'll get a lot of use from this

Love this, the look and the practicality of it - will have to make one I think!

I love this project! One of these days I will make it and be so happy! :0)

How unique to have the bag and mat connected so that you never have to search for one or the other, love the idea.

I like this. I could keep it in the car and always have something to sit on if we stop at a park or where ever.

This would be good to keep in the car so you always have a mat to sit on to watch a parade, a concert or such things.

looks great! is the mat & bag connected. didnt quite get that part

Thank you for pointing out where the directions for the mat are. I missed it also.

the mat is part of the bag- the back is supposed to be worked to a length of 64". it then rolls into the bag for storage

Where are the directions for the mat???
