Springtime Floral Afghan

Materials:

  • Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in the following colors:
    • 2 skeins white
    • 2 skeins baby print
    • 1 skein baby pink
    • 1 skein pale green
  • Red Heart Classic Yarn in the following colors:
    • 2 skeins pale blue
    • 2 skeins maize
  • Crochet Hooks:  4.5mm (US G-6), 5.0mm (US H-8), 5.50mm (US I-9) or size needed for gauge
  • Color Placement Diagram

 

GAUGE:  Square measures 5” across

SQUARES:  (make 16 pink, 16 blue, 16 green, 16 maize)

 

Instructions:
Afghan Measures:  42” x 42”

Flower:

  1. Rnd 1:  With G hook and baby print ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join to beginning sc.
     
  2. Rnd 2:  With I hook ch 2, (3 dc, ch 2, slip st) in same space, (slip st, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, slip st) in each sc around, join to beginning, slip st to back of flower.  (6 petals)

Working behind flower:

  1. Rnd 1: With G hook sc between 2 sc, ch 3, skip 1 sc, sc between next 2 sc, ch 3, skip 1 sc, sc between next 2 sc, ch 3, sc between next 2 sc, ch 3, join to beg sc and fasten off.  (4 ch 3 spaces)
     
  2. Rnd 2: Join square color with a slip st in any ch 3 space, (sc, ch 3, sc) in same space, *ch 3, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch 3 space, repeat from * around, join to beginning sc.  (8 ch 3 spaces)
     
  3. Rnd 3: Slip st into ch 3 space, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space, *ch 1, dc in next ch 3 space, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch 3 space, repeat from * around, join to top of beginning ch 3.
     
  4. Rnd 4: Slip st into ch 3 space, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in ch 1 space, dc, and ch 1 space (3 dc made), ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in ch 3 space, repeat from * around, join to top of beginning ch 3 and fasten off.
     
  5. Rnd 5: With H hook and white (sc, ch 3, sc) in any corner ch 3 space,*ch 3, skip 3 dc, sc in ch 1 space, ch 3, skip dc, ch 1 space, and dc, sc in next dc, ch 3, skip dc, ch 1 space and dc, sc in ch 1 space, ch 3, (sc, ch 3, sc) in corner ch 3 sp, repeat from * around, join to beginning sc and fasten off.

Joining of Squares:

  1. With baby print whip stitch squares together sewing every 2nd stitch making a loop when joining the single crochets together. When whip stitching the rows together sew every 2nd stitch,  make a loop when joining  the single crochets and joinings together.  See Color Placement Diagram.

Edging:

  1. With I hook and white starting at upper right corner (dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 3 corner space, *(sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch 3 space, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch 3 space, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch 3 space, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch 3 space, (sc, ch 3, sc) in joining, continue pattern across ending (sc, ch 3, sc) in last ch 3 space, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, dc) in corner ch 3 space, repeat from * around entire afghan, join to beginning and fasten off.
