A Crossed Panel Crochet Afghan

This free crochet pattern features a unique textured double crochet stitch and a classic fringe. A nice crochet afghan will keep you warm through the winter. This afghan is an editorial team favorite of our large hook crocheted afghan patterns. Use worsted weight yarn.

 

Crossed Panel Crochet Afghan


Materials:

  • Yarn: Bernat Berella 4 (3.5 oz/100 g solid and 3 oz/85g ombre), Main Color (MC) (Ombre) 12 balls, Contrast A (Solid) 4 balls
  • Crochet Hook: Size 5 mm (U.S. H or 8) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 16 dc and 8 rows = 4 ins 10 cm.

Measurements: Finished Size Approx 50 x 56 ins 127 x 142 cm


Instructions:

Panel (make 6)
With MC ch 23.


Foundation row: (RS). 1 dc in 4th ch from hook. Crossing in front of dc, 1 dc in ch to right of dc just worked. Miss 1 ch. 1 dc in next ch. 1 dc in missed ch. Rep from to last ch. 1 dc in last ch. 22 sts. Ch 2. Turn.
2nd row: Miss 2 sts. 1 dc in next st. 1 dc in 2nd of 2 missed sts. Miss next st. 1 dc in next st. 1 dc in missed st. Rep from to last st. 1 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 2. Turn.
Rep 2nd row for pat until work from beg measures approx 53 ins 134.5 cm. Fasten off.

Panel Border: 1st row: With RS of work facing, join A at lower edge. Ch 1. Work 1 row sc evenly around panel, working 3 sc in each corner. Sl st to ch 1. Fasten off.
2nd row: With RS of work facing, join MC at lower edge. Ch 2. Miss next sc. Work 1 dc in each sc, working 3 dc in corner sc. Ss to top of ch 2. Fasten off.
3rd row: With RS of work facing, join A at lower edge. Ch 1. Work 1 sc in each dc, working 3 sc in corner dc. Ss to top of ch 1. Fasten off.

FINISHING
With RS of 2 panels tog and working into back loops only, ss panels tog. Fasten off.

Edging: With RS of work facing, join A in any corner, work sc evenly around afghan. Fasten off.

Fringe: Cut 12 inch 30.5 cm lengths of A. Taking 6 strands tog, knot into fringe along top and bottom of afghan.
