T-Shirt Necklace DIY Craft Video Tutorial

Instructions:

  1. Cut off the bottom hem of the t-shirt. Cut five 1″ wide strips of t-shirt, cutting straight across. This will give you 5 loops of material.

  2. Stretch each loop until it curls up.

  3. Add as many rings and charms as you like to each loop.

  4. Slide the rings closer to one side than the other. In my case, the t-shirt had side seams. Glue all the seams on one side.

  5. Repeat on the other side then glue both stacks together.

  6. Cut one more strip of t-shirt, cut the loop open. Wrap the new strip around the seams to cover them. If your shirt has no seams, just double the loops and wrap the strip around it. Glue the beginning and end of this strip.

  7. Pull all the strands to line up the charms.

  8. This is how the necklace is meant to be worn, but play with it and see what you like best.

What a wonderful idea! I'm curious to see how patterned t-shirts would look using this design I bet a floral or geometric patterned t-shirt would make for a unique t-shirt necklace.

Now this is the ultimate recycle. I would never have thought to take an old tee shirt and make jewelry out of it. I love this. At this time I do not have any of the charms and clasps but I want to give this a go with the knotted look. I am so excited about this project because it will widen my wardrobe ten fold.

I am one of those people that really hates to throw anything out. I recycle as much as possible and give to charities the gently used articles and those that are ready for the trash like torn t-shirts make great cleaning rags. Here is one way to be able to recycle and have a great fashion piece. I am happy I found this post.

This craft idea gives you endless possibilities when you think of all the colors of shirts you can use. If you can't part with any of your own clothes, it's fun to check yard sales, or re-sale shops. Then deciding what finding to attach to the necklace is fun too. You can add pendants or other fun items found in the jewelry section of your craft store. These are fun to make and turn out beautiful.

T-shirt yarn is so beautifully effortlessly simple to use. It would make such a nice bracelet if you weave it well. I need to find some charms.

This is a really neat craft. I have reused my shirts for various things, mostly cleaning cloths, but never for jewelry. The possibilities are really endless. You could combine all sorts of colors and fabric textures to get various effects. You could add all sorts of beads and charms to it. It would be a fun craft to do with teenagers.

This is really cool!

this is just way too cool..thanks
