Crochet Ornaments

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn
  • Small amounts MC yarn in desired colors (for bulbs/balls)
  • Small amount light grey or gold for socket
  • US crochet hook size F
  • Polyfill
  • Yarn needle
  • 1/4 inch width ribbon for hangers
  • Embellishments of choice: (ideas - ribbons, flowers, lace, gems, beads)
  • Glue gun

Steps:

Christmas Ball

1. Rnd 1: With MC yarn and starting at bottom of ball ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (6 sc)

2. Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)Rnd 3: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around.(18 sc)

3. Rnd 4: Sc in each sc around.

4. Rnd 5: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around. (24 sc)

5. Rnds 6 - 9: Sc in each sc around.

6. Rnd 10: (Sc in next 2 sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) repeat around. (18 sc)

7. Rnd 11: Sc in each sc around.

8. Rnd 12: (Sc in next sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) repeat around. (12 sc)

9. Stuff ball at this point and continue to stuff as work progresses.

10. Rnd 13: (Sc in next 2 sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) repeat around, changing to light grey or gold in the last step of last decrease, break off MC.

11. Rnd 14 (this rnd starts the socket) Sc in each sc around.Rnd 15: Sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in next sc, fasten off.

Socket Closure:

1. With light grey or gold, ch 2, work 9 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with a sl st in first sc, fasten off.

2. Sew socket closure to opening at to of ball.Weave in all loose ends.

3. Decorate with embellishments as desired.

4. Cut a 10 inch length of ribbon and with a crochet hook or yarn needle weave it through the top of socket. Knot ends together.

Christmas Light Bulb

1. Rnd 1: With MC yarn and starting at bottom of bulb ch 2, 6sc in 2nd ch from hook. (6 sc)

2. Rnd 2: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around. (9 sc)

3. Rnd 3: Sc in each sc around.

4. Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around. (12 sc)

5. Rnd 5: Sc in each sc around.

6. Rnd 6: (Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around. (15 sc)

7. Rnd 7: (Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around. (18 sc)

8. Rnds 8 - 11: Sc in each sc around.

9. Rnd 12: (Sc in next sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) repeat around. (12 sc)

10. Rnd 13: (Sc in next 2 sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) repeat around, changing to light grey or gold in last step of last dec, break off MC. (9 sc)

11. Rnd 14 (this rnd starts the socket) Sc in each sc around.

12. Rnd 15: Sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in next sc, fasten off.

Socket Closure:

1. With light grey or gold, ch 2, work 9 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with a sl st in first sc, fasten off.

2. Sew socket closure to opening at to of bulb.

3. Weave in all loose ends.
