Baby Seahorse Jacket

This adorable Baby Seahorse Jacket is a sweet gift to give to the new little one in your life.  Decorated with fabric markers, homemade baby clothes like this have never been easier.  This nautical coat is perfect for little girls, but you can easily make it more masculine by adding more blues or drawing a fish or shark instead of a seahorse.

Seahorse Baby Jacket

Materials:

  • One mint green newborn baby jacket
  • Acrilex Acrilpen fabric markers in the following colors:  520 Preto (black); 513 Verde Musgo (dark green); 537 Rosa (pink); 505 Amarelo Ouro (bright yellow)
  • Pencil
  • Piece of old cardboard
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Pattern of Seahorse

Instructions:

  1. Before starting with the design project, wash the jacket in baby shampoo and rinse it thoroughly in cold water to remove any sizing agent from the material. Do not add fabric softener.

  2. Allow the jacket to dry thoroughly and iron it lightly to remove any wrinkles from the material.

  3. Put the jacket flat on the working surface. Slide a sheet of cardboard inside the jacket, between the back and front sides of the jacket ~ this will prevent the ink from staining the back side. Keep this cardboard in place until you have ironed the design.

  4. Trace the design onto the jacket with a pencil first.

  8. Draw an eye with the black marker.

  9. Add a pink border all around the jacket, as well as around the sleeves.

  10. Color the fabric in the press studs green, so that it will look as if the jacket has small green buttons.

  11. Iron the whole jacket to set the fabric markers.

Tips:

  • Work in a well-ventilated area.
  • Wait for 72 hours before washing the completed item.
