Unique Knit Scarf

This basic free knitting pattern can be adapted to fit a variety of styles.  Get your knitting needles ready to make a scarf that's perfect for fall and easy to knit.

Materials
:

  • 1 small skein of any worsted (or thicker) yarn
  • 2 knitting needles that are the correct size for your yarn choice
  • ruler or tape measure

Instructions:

  1. Use your measuring tool to figure out how wide to make your scarf. Cast on some stiches and keep measuring until it is as wide as you want it to be.

  2. Work in stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row), for 2-3 inches. These first few rows are called the spacing rows in this pattern.

  3. Now it is time to start the decorative rows. To do this, choose a special stitch from below or one that you already know and do 1-2 inches in that stitch. Then, repeat the spacing rows.

  4. Repeat row 3 then row 2 in that order until the scarf is desired length. Cast off and you're done!

  5. You can block the scarf to relax the stitches like this:

Lay the scarf on a clean, dry bath towel.

Lay a damp bath towel on top of the scarf making sure not to stretch the scarf but lay it to its proposed shape.

Let them sit undisturbed until they are both completely dry.

Special Stiches:

  • garter stitch- knit every row
  • moss stitch- knit 1 purl 1 every row
  • rib stitch- knit 2 purl 2

There are an unusual number of spelling mistakes in this pattern considering its brevity: measureing - should be "measuring" stockinete stich - should be "stockinette stitch" decoritive - should be "decorative" lenghth - should be "length" your done - should be "you're done" stiches - should be "stitches" stetch - should be "stretch" completley - should be "completely" Sorry, I am an incurable proofreader.
