Colorful Wooden Flower

This wooden plaque will brighten up any bunk or room. Embellishing a plain wooden flower like this makes a perfect kids' activity for a rainy afternoon, school craft, or camp project.

Materials:

  • Scrapbook paper with flower print
  • Jewel craft rhinestones
  • Kreinik #12 Braid metallic thread in your choice of colors (we used 044 Confetti Blue)
  • Kreinik 1/16" Ribbon in your choice of colors (we used 326 Hibiscus)
  • Lanyard
  • Diamond Beadlets®
  • Shallow pan or tray
  • 8" x 10" Treasure Tape sheet
  • Cardstock or scrap paper
  • Wooden flower or similar shape (purchased from a craft store)

Instructions:

  1. Trace shape of flower onto scrap paper or cardstock. Use this as a template to trace the shape onto the Treasure Tape. Cut out.

  2. Carefully line up cut tape to fit onto flower surface.

  3. Peel off red liner to expose sticky tape.

  4. Embellish with lanyard pieces around the outer edges of the flower.

  5. Cut a piece of scrapbook paper in a circle to fit the middle of the flower.

  6. Place Treasure Tape on top, making sure it is at least 1/8" larger than cut-out paper. Lay on top of your wooden flower. If needed, use scraps of Treasure Tape on the back of the scrapbook circle to secure in place.

  7. Peel back red liner to expose sticky tape on the circle.

  8. Embellish with rhinestones and thread, tracing the flower images underneath.

  9. Dip in Diamond Beadlets® to fill in exposed sticky areas.

Tips: When applying "stringy embellishments" like ribbon, embroidery threads and fibers to double-sided Treasure Tape, you can easily pull up the design and start again if you make a mistake or want to try a different design. When using red liner Treasure Tape it is best to cut with Teflon® coated scissors or use adhesive remover to wipe the residue off your scissors.

Kreinik threads available through needlework stores or www.kreinik.com.
