Pizza Pan Mosaic Tutorial

That old pizza pan doesn't have to wind up in the garbage. Repurpose it and make a stunning glass mosaic to decorate your home!

Mod Podge is the only sealer you need to complete this beautiful project. This is a wonderful alternative to cement or other sealers.

There is something so summery and joyful about mosaics! Similar to diamond painting or paint by number projects, mosaics involve piecing together your picture in a way that allows for peaceful contemplation.

The mosaic comes together beautifully and easily, and a pizza pan is the perfect canvas! Make a project that is uniquely you with this mosaic tutorial.

Materials List

  • FolkArt® Brushed Metal, 2 oz., Brushed Antique Gold, Item # 5122
  • Mod Podge® Ultra Gloss, CS44636
  • Plaid® 3 Piece Bronze Taklon Brush Set; #50559E
  • Small glass mosaic pieces
  • Round pizza pan
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Paper towels
  • Scissors
  • Tacky glue

Instructions

  1. Clean the pizza pan with isopropyl alcohol to remove any oils from the surface.

  2. Using a flat brush, basecoat the pizza pan with Antique Gold. Let dry and apply another coat if necessary.

  3. Arrange the glass mosaic pieces in a pattern inside of the painted pan. When you are pleased with the arrangement, glue each piece down with a small dab of tacky glue (just enough so that the pieces will not slide around). Let dry.

  4. Pour Mod Podge Ultra Gloss into the pizza pan. You should pour just enough so that it evenly coats the areas between the glass pieces. The Mod Podge should not cover the glass pieces completely. If you have poured too much, pour some back into the bottle. Let dry on a level surface, in an undisturbed area overnight.

  5. When the Mod Podge Ultra is dry, spray a coat of Gloss on the entire project to create a glossy finish. Let dry.

Would it be possible to use a glue gun/glue sticks instead of the tacky glue? Just thinking it would dry a lot quicker.

I think that sounds like a great idea! And you'll still have the added adhesive of the sealer. Good thinking!

I would like to make the pizza pan mosaic exactly as it is shown. Is there a list of the glass tiles used so I don't have to buy large quantities of tiles that I don't need?

Hi there, unfortunately we don't have an exact list of gems available. I apologize for the inconvenience, and good luck with the project!
