A Vintage Christmas Sheet Music Craft
"It’s the most wonderful time of year! And these are one of my favorite holiday decorations that I pull out of the storage bins each and every year. They’re not fancy. They weren’t expensive. And they wouldn’t be as valuable to anyone else on the planet. But to me they are a true treasure because of the memories they hold. I simply love these framed vintage music sheets. Let me explain why … My mom was a really good pianist. And while I took lessons as a kid, I never really rose to her level, for a whole mess of reasons. Mainly, I hated to practice. Slight issue there. LOL. But I loved hearing her “tickle the ivories,” especially during the holiday season. Every year she’d pull out her vintage sheet music with all of the holiday classics. Silent Night Holy Night, Silver Bells, Frosty the Snowman and, of course, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer … just to name a few. The sheets were a bit tattered since she’d had them since she was a kid. But even as a youngster myself, I marveled at the slick paper on which they were printed. I loved the illustrations on the front. And I looked forward to hearing her play them each year. And yes, there was a bit of singing along on my part. So when we were cleaning out my parents house a few years ago, I stumbled upon the box in which she kept these holiday treasures, as well as a LOT of other sheet music. Truth be told, it had been a few years since she had played the piano. The box was dusty and the sheet music had aged even more. It held a bit of a musty smell. And there were FAR too many pieces for me to even begin to keep, especially since I don’t even own a piano. But when I began going through the box, I was again drawn to the charm of the vintage Christmas sheet music. Even through adult eyes, the paper, the graphics, the colors … were just SO cool! So I compromised with myself and kept a few of my favorites that were in the best condition. I had no idea what I was going to do with them. Then last year, I came up with a great idea! And I can’t wait to share it with you!"
