Bean Bag Toss Bags

Keep the kids entertained this summer with these Bean Bag Toss Bags, great for playing toss in the back yard or giving to kids to create their own warm weather games. Easy to make and fun to play with, these easy sewn fabric bags are perfect for using up your fabric scraps and also make great toys for pets. You could even fill them with scented oils herbs to create beautiful sachets to give as gifts. Though this project uses a sewing machine, you can easily create these little bean bags by hand if you preferred to sew that way.

Materials:

  • ½ yd. each of two coordinating heavy outdoor fabric
  • Thread (2 spools, one for each color of bag)
  • 16 cups Fairfield Poly-Pellets® (3 2-lb bags)
  • Fabric-cutting mat w/ grid (optional)
  • Scissors or rotary cutter
  • Sewing machine
  • Pencil or pen
  • 1 cup measuring cup
  • Extra sewing pins

 

Instructions:

  1. Cut fabric into 7 inch squares making 8 squares for each color (16 squares total).
     
  2. Place two matching 7 inch pieces together with right sides in and pin.
     
  3. Stitch around all four sides of the square using a ¼ inch seam allowance leaving a two inch opening on the fourth side.
     
  4. Turn right side out.
     
  5. Fill the bean bag with approximately 2 cups of Poly-Pellets®.
     
  6. Sew opening closed.
     
  7. Pin a ¼ inch border around bag ensuring pellets are in inner section.
     
  8. Stitch all around bag ¼ inch in from the edges.
