Sweet Baby Dreams Afghan

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook

Materials:

  • 2 skeins Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Baby Pink
  • 4 skeins Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Baby Print
  • 3 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in Maize
  • 5.0 mm (US H-8) crochet hook or size needed for gauge

 

Gauge: 

  • 6 row repeat – 3 ½”
  • 2 Shells – 2 ½”

 

Special Stitch:

  • Shell – (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in stitch or space as indicated.

Sweet Baby Dreams Afghan

Instructions:
Blanket Measures:  41” x 46”
Blanket is crocheted in multiples of 5 plus 4.

  1. Row 1 (RS): With baby print ch 149, Shell in 6th ch from hook, *skip 4 chs, Shell in next ch, repeat from * across to last 3 chs, skip 2 chs, dc in last ch, turn.
     
  2. Row 2: Ch 3, Shell in each ch 1 space of Shell across, dc in last dc, turn.
     
  3. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first dc, ch 1, sc in next ch 1 space, ch 1, * skip 2 dc, working around previous row, dc in space between 2 rows below, ch 1, sc in next ch 1 space, ch 1, repeat from * across, sc in last dc, fasten off and turn.
     
  4. Row 4: Join pink in first stitch, ch 3, dc in same stitch, *skip 2 ch 1 spaces, Shell in next dc, repeat from * across to last 2 ch 1 spaces, skip 2 spaces, 2 dc in last  sc, turn.
     
  5. Row 5: Ch 3, dc in first dc, Shell in each ch 1 space of Shell across, 2 dcs in last dc, turn.
     
  6. Row 6: Ch 1, sc in first dc, ch 1, skip next dc, working around previous row, dc in space between dc two rows below, *ch 1, sc in next ch 1 space, ch 1, skip 2 dc, working around previous row, dc in space between two rows below, repeat from * across to last 2 dc, skip 1 dc, sc in last dc, fasten off and turn.
     
  7. Row 7: Join baby print in first stitch, ch 3, Shell in next dc and in each dc across, dc in last sc, turn.

Color Scheme:  Continue pattern for a total of 75 rows as follows:  (3 rows baby print, 3 rows maize, 3 rows baby print, 3 rows pink) 5 times, 3 rows baby print, 3 rows maize, 3 rows baby print, fasten off after last row. 

Edging

  1. With baby print and right side facing work along top edge 7 dc in first right corner sc, *(sc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, sc) in next dc, 6 dc in next dc, repeat from * across ending 7 dc in last sc.
     
  2. Work along side edge (sc, ch 3, sc) in first dc space, *5 dc in next dc space, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next dc space, repeat from * across.
     
  3. Work along bottom edge 7 dc in first ch space, *(sc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, sc) in next ch space, 6 dcs in next ch space, repeat from * across ending 7 dc in last ch space.
     
  4. Work along side edge as for opposite side edge ending join to beginning dc and fasten off.
