  • Shell – (3 dcs, ch 2, 3 dcs) in space or stitch as indicated.

Fairy Tale Afghan

Instructions:
Blanket Measures:  40” x 42 ½”      

Motif  (Make 6 Lily Pink, 6 Light Blue, 6 Maize, 5 Honeydew)

  1. Round 1: With motif color ch 4, join to form ring, ch 2, 8 hdcs in ring, join to to top of beginning ch 2.   (9 hdcs)
     
  2. Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same stitch, 2 dcs in each stitch around, join to top of beginning ch 3.  (18 dcs)
     
  3. Round 3: Ch 5, dc in next dc, ch 2, [dc in next dc, ch 2] around, join to 3rd ch of  beginning ch 5.  
     
  4. Round 4: Slip stitch to ch 2 space, ch 3, (2 dcs, ch 2, 3 dcs) in next space, *ch 1, dc in next ch 2 space, dc in dc, dc in next ch 2 space, ch 1, Shell in next ch 2 space, repeat from * around, join to top of beginning ch 3.
     
  5. Row 5: Slip stitch to ch 2 corner space, ch 3, (2 dcs, ch 2, 3 dcs) in same space, *ch 1, skip 2 dcs, 3 dcs in next dc, ch 1, skip ch 1 space and 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc and ch 1 space, 3 dcs in next dc, Shell in corner ch 2 space, repeat from * around, join to top of beginning ch 3 and fasten off.
     
  6. Round 6: With white (sc, ch 3, sc) in any corner ch 2 space, *ch 3, skip 2 dcs, sc in next dc, ch 3, skip ch 1 space and 2 dcs, sc in next dc, ch 3, skip ch 1 space, dc and ch 1 space, sc in next dc, ch 3, skip 2 dcs and ch 1 space, sc in next dc, ch 3, (sc, ch 3, sc) in corner ch 2 space, repeat from * around, join to beginning sc and fasten off.

Half Motif (Make 2 Honeydew, 1 Lily Pink, 1 Maize)
All work is done on right side.  Do not turn after each round.

  1. Round 1 (RS): With motif color ch 3, 6 hdcs in 3rd ch from hook, fasten off.   (7 hdcs)
     
  2. Round 2: Join in first stitch, ch 3, [2 dcs in next hdc, 1 dc in next hdc] 2 times, 2 dcs in each of next 2 hdcs, fasten off.   (11 dcs)
     
  3. Round 3: Join in first stitch, ch 5, dc in next dc, [ch 2, dc in next dc] around, fasten off.
     
  4. Round 4: Join in first ch space, ch 3, 2 dcs in same space, *ch 1, dc in next ch 2 space, dc in dc, dc in next ch 2 space, ch 1, Shell in next ch 2 space, repeat from * around ending 3 dcs in last ch 2 space, fasten off.
     
  5. Round 5: Join in first stitch, ch 3, 2 dcs in same stitch, ch 1, skip 1 dc, *3 dcs in next dc, ch 1, skip ch 1 space and 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc and ch 1 space, 3 dcs in next dc, Shell in corner ch 2 space, ch 1, skip 2 dcs, repeat from * around, ending ch 1, skip 1 dc, 3 dcs in last dc, fasten off.
     
  6. Round 6: With white (sc, ch 3, sc) in first stitch, ch 3, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, continue with Round 6 of MOTIF ending corner ch 1, skip 1 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in last stitch, work along straight edge, [ch 3, sc in between 2 rows] across, ch 3, join to beginning sc, (10 ch 3 spaces along straight edge) fasten off.

Joining of Motifs

  1. With white whip stitch motifs together sewing every 2nd stitch.  With white whip stitch rows together sewing every 2nd stitch and making a loop when sewing the seam joinings.  See Color Placement Diagram.                                               

Edging

  1. Working along straight edge join baby print in corner ch 3 space, ch 3, 5 dcs in same space, *[sc in next ch 3 space, 5 dcs in next ch 3 space] across to joining, 5 dcs in joining, continue across, 6 dcs in corner ch 3 space, [sc in next ch 3 space, 5 dcs in next ch 3 space] twice, sc in next ch 3 space, 6 dcs in next ch 3 space, continue across having 5 dcs in joining, 6 dcs in last corner ch 3 space, repeat pattern from * around rest of blanket, join to top of beginning ch 3 and fasten off.
