Primary TechniqueCrochet

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook

Materials:

  • RED HEART Super Saver: 2 skeins each 0668 Honeydew, 0373 Petal Pink, 0311 White
  • Crochet Hook: 5.0 mm (US H-8) crochet hook or size needed for gauge

 

Afghan Measures:  42” x 50”

Gauge: 4 rows – 2 ¾”
             5 dc, ch 2 – 2”

Special Stitches:

  • Shell – 6 dc in stitch or space as indicated.
  • Back Post double crochet (BPdc) – yo, insert hook from back to front around post of indicated stitch. yo, and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), (yo, and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.
  • Front Post double crochet (FPdc) – yo, insert hook from front to back around post of indicated stitch. yo, and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), (yo, and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.

Note: Afghan is crocheted in multiples of 7 plus 3.
 

Instructions:

Row 1 (RS): Ch 143, dc in 4th ch from hook, and in next ch, ch 2, * skip 2 chs, dc in each of next 5 chs, ch 2, repeat from * across to last 5 chs, skip 2 chs, dc in each of last 3 chs, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, Shell in next ch 2 space, * skip 2 dc, BPdc around next dc, Shell in next ch 2 space, repeat from * across to last 3 dc, skip 2 dc, dc in last dc, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, ch 2, *skip 2 dc, dc in next 2 dc, FPdc around next BPdc, dc in next 2 dc, ch 2, repeat from * across to last 5 dc, skip 2 dc, dc in last 3 dc,  turn.
Row 4: Ch 3, Shell in next ch 2 space, *skip 2 dc, BPdc around next FPdc, Shell in next ch 2 space, repeat from * across  to last 3 dc, skip 2 dc, dc in last dc, fasten off and turn.
Row 5: Join pink in first stitch, ch 2 and continue with Row 3.
Row 6: Repeat Row 2.
Row 7: Repeat Row 3.
Row 8: Repeat Row 2, fasten off and turn.
 
Color Scheme:
Continue pattern as established for a total of 63 rows as follows: (4 rows white, 4 rows honeydew, 4 rows pink) 4 more times, 4 rows white, 3 rows honeydew (ending with Row 3) and fasten off.

EDGING
With right side facing and honeydew work along top edge  (sc, ch 5, sc) in first right corner dc, *(2 dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch 2 space, (sc, ch 5, sc) in FPdc, repeat from * across ending (sc, ch 5, sc) in last corner dc.
Work along side edge *ch 1, skip 1 dc space, (2 dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next dc space, ch 1, skip 1 dc space, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next dc space, repeat from * across.
Work along bottom edge (sc, ch 5, sc) in first corner ch space, *(2 dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch 2 space, skip 2 chs, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next ch, repeat from * across ending (sc, ch 5, sc) in last corner ch.
Work along side edge *ch 1, skip 1 dc space, (2 dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next dc space, ch 1, skip 1 dc space, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next dc space, repeat from * across ending join to beginning sc and fasten off.
