From the Designer: "Adult coloring has taken the world by storm. It is an activity that speaks to young and old. The question that many colorists are asking though is what to do with the pages once they have been colored. Here is an adult coloring design that has been turned into a tray cloth. This keepsake craft is a great way to proudly display your coloring skills, and the tray cloth will be a great way to celebrate the warmer months."

Materials List

  • Printout of provided pattern sheets

    Pattern for Left Border

    Pattern for Right Border

    Floral Center Motif

  • 16” x 13.4” unbleached linen
  • Set of 12 giotto décor textile pens
  • Acrilex acrilpen: 516 violeta (purple) and 565 vinho (maroon) pens
  • Standard scissors
  • Pencil
  • Sewing machine and matching thread
  • Light table (or well-lit window) to transfer pattern onto linen
  • Iron and ironing board

Instructions

  1. Wash the linen and rinse it thoroughly in cold water to remove any sizing agent from the material.

Note: Do not add fabric softener when rinsing the linen.

  2. Allow the linen to dry and iron it thoroughly before continuing with the next step.

  3. Fold the linen 0.2” from the edge and iron it down neatly to keep the fold in place. Repeat on the other three sides. Then, fold the linen a second time on each side, folding it 0.4” from the edge and sew a double fold hem all around the linen. This will prevent the tray cloth from fraying.

  4. Use the light table and a pencil to transfer the border pattern to the cloth. You will need pattern 1a and 1b for this step. Place the two parts of the border pattern side by side, with the lines of the pattern correctly lining up, before transferring the pattern.

  5. Use the black Giotto pen to draw over all the pencil lines.

  6. Transfer the pattern of the flowers to the centre of the cloth ~ you will need pattern 2 for this step. Use the black Giotto pen again to draw over all the pencil lines.

  7. Iron the cloth to set the black lines.

  8. Now color the design. For the flowers, use only Giotto neon pink and sky blue. For the leaves, use Giotto ultramarine and sky blue, and for the circles, use the two Acrilex pens. For the border, use a combination of all the colors.

  9. Iron the design and wait 72 hours before using.
