Chalkboard Herb Pots

These Chalkboard Herb Pots are great for labeling your herbs so you don't forget what you are growing in them. The chalk paint is erasable, too, so when you want to plant a different herb in a pot, you can change the name easily. You can expand this idea to larger potted plants and label them accordingly. This intermediate level garden craft only takes as long as the paint needs to dry, so you can use these pots on the same day you paint them. Now you have a fun gardening craft for the spring or summer.

Materials:

  • Martha Stewart Crafts ® Basic Brush Set - 5pc
  • Martha Stewart Crafts ® 2oz Multi-Surface Chalkboard Paint Acrylic Craft Paint - Classroom Green
  • Martha Stewart Crafts ® 2oz Multi-Surface Chalkboard Paint Acrylic Craft Paint - Ink
  • Martha Stewart Crafts ® Adhesive Silkscreens - Bodoni Alphabet
  • (optional) Martha Stewart Crafts ® 2oz Erasable Liquid Chalk, White
  • Various Size Terra Cotta Pots
  • Chalk

Instructions:

  1. Paint your plain pot with one coat of chalkboard paint, let dry, and paint a second coat.

  2. Once the second coat dries, condition the surface by rubbing chalk over the newly painted pot. Wipe away the excess chalk and adhere the silkscreen to the area you’d like to label.

  3. Once you have laid out the text of your label or message, dab a small amount of the Erasable Liquid Chalk over the silkscreen.

  4. Remove the silkscreen while the Erasable Liquid Chalk is still wet. Your label will not smudge like normal chalk, but you can erase your message with a damp cloth if you would like to write a new message.
