Featured Craft Videos on our YouTube Channel

February 21, 2012 by FaveCrafts Leave a Comment

Certain crafts just need an accompanying video, don’t you think? Especially things like crochet stitches, knitting stitches, and sewing techniques–it’s so much easier to crochet a sweater pattern when you’ve got videos teaching you how to do each stitch. I’m a very visual learner, as I suspect many crafters are, which is why we have an entire YouTube channel dedicated to craft video tutorials. Our channel is full of technique videos, such as How to Crochet the Crocodile Stitch and How to Stencil with Modeling Cream, and we also have some fun craft projects to follow from start to finish, like this video on How to Make a Ribbon Wreath.

We feature a new video every week in our newsletter, and I’ve been posting a featured video every week on our Facebook wall too. Want to see the most recent videos we’ve featured?

How to Make a Ribbon and Pearl Necklace: Combine ribbon with pearls for an inexpensive, trendy DIY necklace that works equally well for an evening out and at the office. This ribbon necklace DIY is simple enough for a beginner jewelry crafter.

You can see the whole project here: Ladylike Ribbon and Pearl Necklace

How to Make Embroidery Hoop Bulletin Boards: Embroidery hoop crafts are all the rage right now. You can turn them into so many things, including this DIY bulletin board. Hang important pieces of paper or cute odds and ends on your walls in your craft room with this easy DIY cork board.

You can see the whole project here: Embroidery Hoop Bulletin Board

How to Make a Beaded Angel: Craft with your kids and make a pretty beaded angel! This angel craft for kids is simple and customizable. It’ll be easy enough for the kids but fun enough for you!

You can see the whole project here: Kids’ Beaded Angel

How to Crochet a Shamrock: Want to make a shamrock? Crochet one for St. Patrick’s Day with this crochet stitch video. All you need is some green scrap yarn.

You can see a similar written pattern here: Easy Crochet Shamrock

We also featured some fun Valentine’s Day craft videos. Keep these in mind for next year:

  • How to Make Valentine Card Pockets
  • How to Make Valentine Garland
  • How to Make Cute Valentines Day Cards

Are you a visual learner too? What kinds of craft videos do you want to see more of?

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer – You Tube to PBS Television Designer

August 17, 2011 by TheCrochetCrowd Leave a Comment

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer Scrapbook Soup TV Host
Julie Fei-Fan Balzer TV Host of Scrapbook Soup

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer is someone I can strongly relate to as she started broadcasting on You Tube and then was signed on as a host on Scrapbook Soup on PBS in the United States.

I’ve never heard of Julie but attended a seminar where she was hosting for 20 minutes. OMG, funny as can be, inspiring as ever, and so realistic to today’s computer challenges and trends when it comes to broadcasting howto videos on the net. To me, I completely connected with Julie watching her and laughing along with her realistic humour about the challenges we face as YouTube Broadcasters.

She showed a few videos as examples of videos during her presentation. I encourage you to check this one out. YOUTUBE VIDEO You are going to think through most of the video that it’s going to be very child like and not very inspirational. She does a simple technique. I kid you not, a room of 125 people when she was hosting GASPED so loudly! We could hardly believe our own eyes.

Finally here’s another video to watch!  You may not be into stenciling or painting like she is doing, but there’s got to be a deep yearning inside of you to have an ounce of her creativity within yourself! I’m jealous as can be.

You can see more about Julie in her blog, it’s a really active blog and completely inspirational.

The Creativ Festival – Hooker Alley

April 21, 2011 by TheCrochetCrowd 1 Comment

The Crochet Crowd - Creativ Festival Toronto Ontario

Michael Sellick, video host for http://www.AllFreeCrochet.com and http://TheCrochetCrowd.com , and The Crochet Crowd brought to life Hooker Alley at Creativ! Michael is a Canadian Crochet and Loom Knitting Guru.

He was invited to Creativ Festival in Mississauga, Ontario to inspire enthusiastic crafters on April 15 – 16th, 2011. The purpose is to engage members of his massive audience on YouTube live at the Festival. Make new connections with more viewers and see trend setting ideas at the festival.

Mikey and crew were swamped from the minute the doors opened to closing. The volunteers change from show to show depending who is available. Names from the Left Back, Mikey, Laurie, Lindsay, Colleen, Diva Dan, and front Left was Charlene and Veronica.

Mikey’s area was a partial resting area near food concessions where people could sit on the cozy benches and watch partial tutorials in motion. Many got up and eventually made their ways to the interactive tables where people could try loom knitting for the very time. For many, it reminded them of spool knitting or corking. If Mikey had a dime every time he heard that, he would have been a rich man.

About 20,000 people walked through the show for the 2 day spring event. Mikey also revealed a new to the market product for loomers. Starting May 1st, 2011 a new product will be available but we don’t let the cat out of the bag just yet. The product was a hit and sold out fast! Mikey will have this product again by his next show at the Ontario Fibre Week on May 13th – May 15th in Ancaster Ontario Canada.
