11 DIY Christmas Wreaths to be Jolly About

September 7, 2015 by FaveCrafts Leave a Comment

It’s time to get down to some serious crafting folks. With the kids back in school, the summer winding down, and the fall holidays looming over us closer and closer, we really need to prep for…Christmas! Christmas?! You’re probably thinking I’m out of my mind, but those homemade mantle crafts and DIY garlands aren’t going to make themselves! I started sewing for Christmas about a month ago because I’m still a beginner and I wanted a head start on my homemade tree skirt. Plus, I wanted plenty of crafting time and an organized craft room for all the DIY Christmas decorations I have planned.

11 DIY Christmas Wreaths to be Jolly About

The best part of crafting — free sewing patterns, crochet patterns, and knitting — is that you can take a tutorial or a pattern and still be able to make the craft or pattern with your own personal touch. I normally change colors or patterns, but if you’re super creative, you can imagine an entirely other use. Take wreaths, for example and an adorable deco mesh wreath tutorial. That tutorial may be for spring with bright blues and greens, but you could easily adjust it for a red and green DIY Christmas wreath. Everything can be tailored to suit your needs and tastes.

Those cute deco mesh DIY wreaths are really trendy right now. Not sure what they are? They’re the homemade wreaths that look ruffled like an unraveled roll of ribbon. These were all over my sorority hallways with the names of the sisters in each room. They had these cute wreaths with their letters at the bottom and their names in sparkly letters. A DIY wreath would be a really cute dorm room decor to give as a graduation gift!

Excited for the holidays, I’m checking my supply list twice and heading straight off to the craft store to gather supplies for a few different DIY Christmas wreath ideas. I need to make at least two to cover the whole season. I can’t wait to learn how to make a wreath for every single one of my doors!

Link Love: Inspired By Fairy Tales

May 16, 2013 by FaveCrafts 4 Comments

In a recent staff meeting, my fellow craft editors and I were discussing popular topics in e-mail newsletters (are you a subscriber?). During our conversation, we realized that fairy tale-inspired projects are particularly hot right now. It seems that crocheters, knitters, quilters and everyone in between wants to take a mental trip to another time and place where woodland creatures rule and fairies fly around all day long. We can all use a little mental vacation, and a one-way ticket to your favorite fairy land is completely free – what could be better?

You might think that fairy crafts are a little juvenile, but that isn’t always the case. In fact, there are so many lovely projects for craft experts as well as beginners. Add a touch of whimsy to your garden by decorating a plain ceramic pot with paint and paper doilies. A Floral Fairy Clay Pot can be displayed in your backyard or on your front stoop and will instantly put you in a good mood. Be sure to include embellishments such as homemade bread dough flowers and jewelry chains to give your project a personal touch. Now that the outside of your home is covered with fairy tale touches, it’s time to think indoor decor. Grab a clean recycled mason jar and get to work on a Recycled Fairy Jar. Create a woodland habitat inside the glass and add in a plastic fairy, sheet moss and silk flowers. If you love needlefelting or simply want to try something new, create a Whimsical Fairy Nymph – little girls will love this tiny handmade doll!

The next time you feel stressed or anxious, consider creating a fairy or woodland-inspired craft. These projects will transport you to a calm, happy place filled with fairies and adorable creatures. While you can’t stay in the woodlands forever, you can capture your favorite aspects and keep a little piece of the magic with you at all times.

  2. Moss Toadstool Wreath from Please Note
  3. Fairy Castle from Remarkably Domestic
  4. Woodland Creature Canning Jars from Valley and Co. Lifestyle
  5. Mini Egg Landscapes from My So-Called Crafty Lifestyle
  6. Indoor Fairy Garden from Dabbles and Babbles
  7. Woodland Friends DIY Felt Puppets from Lia Griffith
  8. Fairy Tale Toadstool from Lilla Luise
  9. Woodland Cupcake Wrappers from The Decorated Cookie

Refashion Your Christmas Decor with 17 Wreath Crafts

September 11, 2012 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts 1 Comment

Every family does Christmas a little differently, and the same can be said for how we all decorate. There is one Christmas decoration that has become a must-have and is still hugely popular right now; wreaths. They’re so versatile; they can be hung inside or outside, and they can be made with practically anything. At AllFreeChristmasCrafts, we’ve come across some projects that we would have never believed would have worked. As an early Christmas gift, we’ve put together a collection of 17 Wreaths to Make with Leftover Materials, a list full of diverse wreath crafts that will save you money and help you clean out your craft drawers.

You would never think you’d find anything in common with Christmas sweaters and craft fabric, but if you take a look at our list of wreath crafts, you’ll see that you can use both to design unique Christmas wreaths. The possibilities are endless if you have fabric materials with practically any color you can find, and because you’re using scraps and old clothes, you’re saving yourself a lot of money while cleaning out your closets.

Since Christmas happens every year, you have to continually replace your lights and utensils. You may even find yourselves running out of room on your tree! Thanks to these wreath crafts, you no longer have to throw away your old, burnt out, and broken Christmas supplies. Instead, you can work them into your crafting and design original wreaths that are totally thrifty. You don’t need money to be stylish, and these crafts prove that!

We wanted to make sure that our collection included materials that you have around your house the entire year, but may not take notice of. Gathering materials for a wreath craft can be as easy as taking an extra look in your recycling bin. Odds are you’ll find a project on this list that uses supplies that you may already have available.

Sometimes your craft projects leave you with leftover materials that aren’t the easiest to work with. You’ll be amazed at the projects on this list, which rework some of the smallest craft materials, like beads, and turn them into long-lasting decorative wreaths. This is a great way to challenge your crafting skills and creativity.

If there’s one craft supply that crafters know how to reuse, it’s paper. There was no way we couldn’t include it in our collection, and we picked out the most eye-popping designs you’ll find anywhere. You’re sure to find something you’ll want to try because each of these projects uses different techniques that create colorful designs with standout geometric patterns.

If you want stylish decorations without the costs of pricey materials, we hope you’ll check out the rest of the projects within our collection of 17 Wreaths to Make with Leftover Materials. You’ll have a holly, jolly Christmas with a wreath you can keep for as many Christmases as you’d like.

What wreath craft would you most like to try?

Spring into Creativity with New Easter Craft eBook

February 24, 2012 by AllFreeHolidayCrafts Leave a Comment

Just the other day I saw two surefire signs of the coming of spring.  No, it wasn’t flower buds popping out of the ground and it wasn’t the snow slowly starting to disappear.  No, my first glimpses of Spring 2012 were in the form of fluffy, yellow marshmallow chicks on the shelf of my local grocery store and the first airing of that iconic Cadbury commercial where the different animals are all auditioning to be the Easter bunny.  You know the one I’m talking about:

It may seem early to be talking about chicks and bunnies, but we’re almost in March and really before you know it Easter will be here!  That’s why the folks at AllFreeHolidayCrafts decided to help you get a head start on your Easter preparations.  They’ve just released their brand new eBook, 7 Cute Easter Craft Projects, which has some really great ideas for egg decorating, basket making and general holiday home decor.  Check it out for yourself; you can download a free PDF copy right here!

Download your free copy of How to Make Easter Crafts: 7 Cute Easter Craft Projects today!

I’m personally so excited about this eBook because this is the first spring where I’m feeling especially crafty.  I can’t wait to try my hand at this Grass is Greener Wreath (featured on page 23 of the eBook).  I first noticed it over on Pinterest where a ton of my friends were obsessing over how cute it is and vowing to make it this spring.

I think there are a couple reasons why this wreath has been super popular. First, it’s ridiculously easy to make. See that plush green “grass”?  It’s really just some Fun Fur yarn!  Clever, huh?  Also this wreath is very practical; it’s a decoration that you can leave up all season long.  A lot of Easter wreaths feature eggs and bunnies and the like, but the simplicity and seasonal nature of this one makes it fitting for March through September!

So that’s the project that I’m most looking forward to making from this Easter craft eBook, but there are a bunch of other really great ideas.  Anyone who is even thinking about making homemade decorations for Easter this year should check out this craft collection. You can download the eBook for free with one simple click, right here on the AllFreeHolidayCrafts website!

To recap…

In the 7 Cute Easter Crafts eBook you’ll find:

  • The adorable “Grass is Greener” wreath pictured above
  • Easy egg crafts
  • Easter basket tutorials
  • Cute DIY Easter decorations

And so much more!  So what are you waiting for? Spring forward and get started on one of these 7 cute Easter craft projects today!

I’m curious:  What’s your favorite craft project to make for Easter?

Craft Battle Spectacular

February 4, 2012 by AllFreeHolidayCrafts Leave a Comment

If you’re a fan of any of our Facebook pages, you probably noticed that we’ve been having quite a few craft “face-offs” lately.  While we love each and every project on our websites (that’s why we feature them, after all!), we thought it would be fun to see what YOU think.  So we decided to take two similar projects and see which one would triumph in the eyes of our readers.  All in good crafting fun, of course 🙂

So, if you haven’t voted in these craft battles yet, what are you waiting for?  Make your voice heard!  Who knows, you might just see the “winning” project pop up in one of our weekly newsletters!  Plus, we love knowing what you all love… that way we can add more of those kinds of projects to our websites.

So, if you’re a fan of quilted table toppers, show your love and vote for them now!  And if you’re  partial to crafting with cupcake liners, make sure you say so in our poll.  Finally, for all you knitters, we want to know what your scarf preference is, so please weigh in!

  • AllFreeKnitting pitted the Peacock Scarf against the Orange Creme Scarf.  Which one is your favorite?
  • The folks at FaveQuilts wanted to know which was better: The Valentine’s Day Table Topper or the Heartstruck Table Runner.  Which one wins your heart?
  • Over at FaveCrafts, the battle was all about crochet hearts.  Do you think the Pink and Red Crocheted Hearts should beat out the Crochet Heart Ornaments?  Vote for the pattern you love the most!
  • The last contest was an AllFreeHolidayCrafts showdown between the Upcycled T-Shirt Heart Wreath and the Frilly Cupcake Liner Wreath.  Weigh in and tell us which V-Day wreath should be crowned the winner of this craft battle royale!

Tell us:  What two crafts should we pit against each other next?  What battle would you most like to see?

Top 10 December Favorites: Holiday Craft Edition

January 1, 2012 by AllFreeHolidayCrafts 1 Comment

First of all, happy New Year!  Can you believe it’s 2012 already?  I vividly remember the start of 2011 and can’t believe a full 365 days have passed since then.  As they say, time flies when you’re having fun… crafting!

If December was any indication, you guys were certainly having a blast crafting for the holidays.  Some of the most popular crafts of the year came from our December newsletters, which is no surprise considering Christmas is the best holiday to craft for, in my humble opinion at least!   There’s just so much you can make for Christmas – from wreaths to ornaments to homemade gifts and cards and so much more!  ‘Tis the season for creativity!

Want to see which projects from the Create and Celebrate newsletter from AllFreeHolidayCrafts.com ranked as the Top 10 of December?  Check it out!   These were the most popular crafts as chosen by YOU, so you know they’re going to be good  🙂

December’s Top 10 Holiday Craft Projects

It seems that you guys were really into recycling, reusing and repurposing old and unusual materials in your Christmas crafting this year.  Not only does this lead to some of the cutest and most unique projects, like the Coffee Filter Christmas Trees and the wreath from toilet paper rolls, but it also helps the environment.  Talk about win win!

I also noticed that a lot of the top projects were ones that are easy on the wallet.  We all know crafting can get expensive pretty quickly, so I love that a bunch of the Top 10 projects are thrifty and inexpensive to make.  One of my absolute favorites is the Super Easy Dollar Tree Ornament Wreath because, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love the dollar store?  This particular project is great because you only need two supplies, and one of them is an old hanger which you already have in your closet!

Make sure you check out the complete list of the top 10 holiday craft projects from December 2011 and make note of your favorites to make for next Christmas!  There’s nothing like getting a head start on your holiday crafting way far in advance!  Plus, if you get started now, you can get most of the supplies at marked-down prices and save yourself a bunch of money.

I hope you enjoy the collection and please keep checking back at AllFreeHolidayCrafts.com for more project ideas for ALL of your favorite holidays!  I can’t wait to start crafting for Valentine’s Day 2012!

Meet the Editor: Julia

December 1, 2011 by FaveCrafts Leave a Comment

Hello! My name is Julia and I’m the editor of two super cool websites, AllFreeChristmasCrafts and AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns. I also bring you the weekly craft business newsletter from FaveCrafts, Creative Income, and work with the wonderful Tiffany Windsor to produce the bi-weekly newsletter, Cool2Craft.

I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO, and attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where I studied advertising and English. I love movies and television; in fact, I’m one of those people that always have a full DVR to catch up on and list of movies to see on the weekend. I’ve also loved reading for, well, as long as I can remember and always carry a book in my bag. I’m a total fitness nut and love exploring Chicago in my free time! About a year ago, I moved into my first apartment, so I’m adjusting to domestic life on my own. My newest goal is to learn how to bake (I’m constantly collecting recipes and ideas, but I have yet to make anything). I learned how to crochet earlier this year but I still have so much to learn!

I love so many projects on our sites and I’m constantly inspired to make something amazing! Here are some of my all-time favorite DIY craft ideas that you should definitely check out this holiday season!

7 Easy Ideas for a Homemade Christmas

October 28, 2011 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts 4 Comments

Raise your hand if you’re already crafting for Christmas!  Okay, you probably can’t see my outstretched arm, but believe me it’s raised.  Now, as someone who’s relatively new to crafting, I have to admit I was a bit daunted by the thought of making my own Christmas decorations this year.  But as I started looking at different projects online, I quickly discovered that Christmas is actually a perfect time for craft newbies because there are TONS of easy Christmas craft ideas.  Seriously, tons!

Since there are now less than two months until Santa comes to town (crazy, huh?), I decided to round up my top 7 favorite easy Christmas crafts and share them with all of you.  I’ve put together a brand new eBook so you can keep all of these craft instructions handy to work on now or later.  You can download the eBook for FREE right here.

7 Easy DIY Christmas Crafts

I really loved the ornaments and wreath that were made out of toilet paper rolls.  I mean how clever is that?  To turn recycled cardboard into something as cool as this:

And this:

I’m seriously impressed.

Homemade Christmas decorations give your house a touch of personal charm during the holidays, and they also help you save some cash (and we could all use that around Christmastime, now couldn’t we?).  All of the projects that I included in this free Christmas craft eBook are simple to make, so they don’t require a bunch of supplies.  Which means that you’ll be able to make fabulous, festive Christmas decor without breaking the bank.  Now I’d call that a merry Christmas!

I could go on and on about the projects in this awesome new eBook, but that would just take away precious crafting time and I definitely don’t want to do that!  So don’t waste another minute… Christmas is right around the corner and you’ll want enough time to make all of the seven cool projects in this collection.  Trust me, I loved all of these crafts so much that I couldn’t skip one.  So every weekend between now and December 25th you know where you’ll find me… in my crafting room!

Download the 7 Easy DIY Christmas Crafts: Make Your Own Ornaments, Wreaths and More! eBook today!
