Link Love: Recycled Bottle Crafts

April 24, 2013 by FaveCrafts

25 Cool Things to Do With Wine BottlesHappy Earth Week! Who says you only need to celebrate the Earth one day a year? We’re partying on the FaveCrafts Blog for five full days and bringing you brand new giveaways, tutorials and even a Blog Hop! Use this week to explore the world of eco-friendly crafts – once you go green you never go back!

Now more than ever, people are reusing old plastic and glass bottle to create functional yet adorable craft projects. You can use bottles for home decor projects as well as crafts for your kitchen. You can paint the bottles, cover them with glue or saw them in half – don’t be afraid to get creative. To celebrate the popularity of glass bottle crafts, we’ve even created a brand new free eBook, 25 Cool Things to Do With Wine Bottles, which is available to download now.

While you’re thinking green, why not dig into your recycle bin and create so eco-friendly crafts using discarded glass and plastic bottles? Start with a few pretty DIY accessories that you can wear well into the summer. Embossed Water Bottle Bracelets are a fun alternative to bangles and can be customized to fit your personality. You can also cut off the bottom of a plastic bottle and use the design as the bases for an Oversized Drink Bottle Pendant. If glass bottles are taking over your space, you’re in luck! Using a few simple supplies, you can create your own Tissue Wine Bottle Vases and display them on a mantel, table or countertop.

Earth Week will be over soon but that doesn’t mean you have to give up on green crafting. Save some crafty ideas for later and turn Earth Week into Earth Year – the planet will thank you for it.

How to Crochet a Wine Bottle Cover

December 16, 2010 by AllFreeCrochet

I can hardly contain myself, Christmas is in ten days! Technically for me it’s in 7 days because I’ll be heading to my sister’s in Minnesota, I can’t wait! With that said, a fun gift is always a great gesture for those hosting a holiday party or get-together.

Wine is always a really nice gift as it can just sit for years without being touched and it will only get better in time. Something fun for you to crochet for the holidays is a wine bottle cover. This will add to the surprise of what kind of wine you’re giving, it also adds for some holiday cheer.

Learn how to crochet a wine bottle cover with this free crochet pattern. I think it’s super cute and the person you’re giving it to will think the same thing. All you need is a ball of green yarn and a ball of red yarn. This pattern uses Red Heart yarn. To start out you need to ch 30 and fasten off. You’ll then follow the instructions Row 1 (Right Side): Join A in 1st ch, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each ch across; turn – 30 sts. Once you go through the entire pattern you’ll end up finishing it by weaving the ribbon through the neck of the bottle cover to tie in a nice bow.

This makes for a fabulous gift that you can make in bulk. Crochet them for any occasion using any colors you wish. Make it for a birthday party for one your girlfriends or use as centerpieces at a baby shower with bottles of champagne or orange juice.

If you’re looking for another great gift for the holidays then check out this crochet Christmas Wreaths eBook. Wreaths make great hostess gifts.

Do you have another fun pattern for a wine bottle cover?
