Make a Toilet Paper Roll Treat Holder for Halloween

October 2, 2013 by FaveCrafts Leave a Comment

This tutorial is brought to you by Latrice Murphy from Any Occasion.

Hello Halloween lovers. Oh yes, this holiday coming fast and now is the time to get those fun little treats created for classroom parties. What’s easier than some candy all wrapped up? I hoard toilet paper tubes and paper towel rolls for occasions like this. We will be making 15 of these for my girl scout troop. It’s super easy and fun. I’m using some new products from both Glitz Design and May Arts ribbon.

Materials:

  • Materials needed:
  • Toilet paper tube
  • Patterned paper
  • Tulle
  • Stapler
  • Washi tape
  • Ribbon
  • Candy
  • Small plastic bag
  • Halloween embellishments
  • Gemstones or enamel dots

Instructions:

First, start off by cutting your patterned paper down to 4-¼”. That’s the size of a normal toilet paper tube.

Attach your paper using a stapler. This is much faster than trying to use glue or other adhesives.

Next, fill your small plastic bag with candy and stuff it into the center of the tube.

Wrap your tulle around the tube lengthwise and close with a piece of coordinating washi tape.

Choose a couple Halloween ribbons and trim the ends to 45 degree angles. Layer them and tie a knot in the end to close the tulle around the toilet paper tube.

Trim off any excess tulle or ribbon and it’s time to embellish.

I created tags by using punches or pre-made embellishments. I layered then a numbered die cut with a fun raven and a large-faceted gemstone.

So fast and so fun! I hope you give this one a try. I made this in about 15 minutes. Happy haunted crafting!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: How to Make Toilet Paper Pencil Holders

April 24, 2013 by FaveCrafts 1 Comment

This tutorial is brought to you by Latrice Murphy from Any Occasion.

Hey there it’s Latrice with a fun and fast project that you can make right now. It’s perfect for kids- I’m actually going to be doing this with my group of Girl Scouts this week in honor of Earth Day. This project uses something we all have on a daily basis but usually toss. While exploring Pinterest, I have come across my fair share of projects using toilet paper tubes, so I decided to create something myself.

Materials:

  • Toilet paper tube
  • Random packaging insert (chipboard)
  • Glue stick
  • Hot glue gun
  • Buttons (even better is they are ones you have from old shirts!)
  • Corner rounder
  • Scraps of patterned paper

Instructions:

I started by cutting my paper pieces to fit. The base is 4” X 4” and the tube needed a piece that was 4-¼” X 6-¼”. Adhere the paper to both with a simple glue stick. You also could staple or use Washi Tape to keep it on there.

Next up you’ll want to use your glue gun to attach the tube to the base. The base gives it stability to be able to hold pencils.

Now the hard parts are done. Last you just have to embellish to your hearts desire and fill with nice sharp pencils.

My daughter wanted to make one for every friend. She could too, because I never toss my TP tubes.

Don’t forget – we’re celebrating Earth Week with giveaways, tutorials and more!

Check back every single day for new crafts and a chance to win big!

Link Love: Toilet Paper Roll Crafts

February 28, 2013 by FaveCrafts 10 Comments

I don’t usually like thinking about toilet paper rolls. First of all, they’re ugly. The brown color and boring shape make them rather unappealing in my opinion. Plus, they hold toilet paper – enough said. Well, I’m about to change my tune because I’ve recently realized just how useful this unattractive piece of cardboard can be. You can use them to create so many things – Christmas stars, necklaces, gift boxes and so much more. Toilet paper rolls might have a bad reputation, but they’re really one of the best craft supplies around.

You might not know that you can create pretty much any kind of craft using recycled toilet paper rolls. Go eco-friendly and reuse your toilet paper rolls for any of these 16 craft projects – you won’t be disappointed with the results. There are also a ton of projects on FaveCrafts that you can make for special occasions – use toilet paper rolls and fool your friends! A Spring Paper Tube Sachet looks great on an Easter brunch table or works well for Mother’s Day – both of which are just around the corner! Also, did you know you can make pretty jewelry using empty toilet paper rolls? My favorites are the Reversible Cardboard Roll Earrings and Toilet Paper Roll Bracelet. Both of which make great gifts and can be worn with almost anything.

Give toilet paper rolls a chance and create some interesting recycle crafts. Who knew a simple brown tube could be so versatile?

How to Make a Toilet Paper Roll Animal

August 11, 2010 by FaveCrafts Leave a Comment

I love animals, whether they are house animals or farm animals. I just have that natural love for all things cute. My favorite animals are the ones with beautiful designs like giraffes and zebras. They just have those amazing patterns they carry around with them every day. I have a purse with a giraffe print and shoes with a zebra print. Obsessed much?

I also love going on vacation and swimming in the ocean, which is where this project came from. A fun craft for kids to put together is a toilet paper roll animal. An octopus is such a fun craft for them to work on. Here’s how:

You will need:

  • An Empty Toilet Paper Roll
  • Two Googly Eyes
  • Paint (white and another color)
  • Glue
  • Toilet Paper
  • Marker
  • Scissors

It’s a super easy craft to make and the kids will love it. There are so many different animals you can make. All you need to do is:

Take a wad of toilet paper and scrunch it up into a ball. Then put that ball inside the toilet paper roll towards the top, this will be used for the head later. Don’t have it out all the way, but just a little bit. You then take your white paint and paint over the whole thing, including the wad of toilet paper. Wait a bit for it to dry and then take your other color and paint over the whole thing. The white constitutes as the base color so you won’t see the brown underneath and your other color will be nice and bold. Again, you wait for this to dry.

Take your scissors and cut around the bottom portion of the toilet paper roll, you’re going to cut vertical strips for the tentacles. You don’t want them to be too skinny, but about a quarter of an inch in between each one. You then take your marker and roll each piece upward to make some cute tentacles. This will allow the octopus to sit on its own.

Now it’s time for the fun stuff. You can glue on your eyes and draw on the mouth. It makes for a cute craft that the kids can play with once all dried. You can also do the same with a bee or a butterfly. You just have to paint differently and make some wings to glue on. You might also want to use pipe cleaners for antennae.
