Paint and Plant: Earth Day 2016 with the FaveCrafts Team

May 3, 2016 by FaveCrafts

earth day fcb

The first Earth Day in 1970 was coordinated to organize a nationwide teach-in to not only celebrate but empathize the need to protect our green spaces. Now, forty years later, people across the USA still celebrate this important day by taking time out of their day to plant trees, teach special lessons on environmental conservation, and more. Never one to skip a great opportunity to get creative, we here at Prime Publishing LLC (the team behind FaveCrafts.com!) decided to do our part by combining planting pretty flowers and crafting!

This year, we painted adorable itty bitty terra cotta pots in beautiful colors before planting charming petunias in our brand new creations. The pretty and purple Wave Pansies and other green cuties we picked up at Home Depot looked lovely sprouting out of our painted masterpieces. One editor, Jesse Carpendar said of the experience:

Decorating flower pots was a relaxing way to welcome spring into our office. It was nice to see everyone’s creative side emerge. It’s been even nicer to have cute pink flowers greeting me at my desk every morning since.

Check out our video below!

As you can see, we have an office of crafty editors with green thumbs. The petunias and pots are still blooming beautifully on plenty of desks. Spring is here and we reveled in the chance to bring some spring indoors.

It was wonderful to bring some of the beauty of the outdoors inside. The purple Wave pansies were gorgeous and immediately brightened up my desk!

Gotta Make These Terra Cotta Pot Crafts

July 22, 2015 by FaveCrafts 1 Comment

What very few people know about me is that I have a knack for gardening. I’m talking about the flower kind of gardening, not the food kind of gardening. When it comes to trying to grow food it almost never works out. Plants die, I over water them, or, at least in Missouri, there’s a nasty dry-spell that seems like there is never enough water. My favorite flowers are hydrangeas. The only thing about my gardening is that it needs to adapt to the city life. I wish I could live in both the city and the country. I know, it’s called the suburbs, but the city has so much life and culture, but then the country has some good soil for my hydrangeas. I always have to make-do with good ol’ terra cotta pots. They are the staple item for gardeners both food and flowers. The best thing about terra cotta pots is that you can leave them their burned-orange color, or you can decorate them to match your decor, inside or outside.

Terra Cotta Pots

Terra cotta pot crafts especially became popular when the DIY fairy garden theme came about. You remember: the broken pots with miniature houses and cute stone paths made out of pebbles, with tiny foliage to make the “fairy” have her own garden. They were such cute little fairy themed crafts. I’ve seen people go so hard core on their fairy gardens that it would take up an expansive amount of space—as in half of their backyard. Don’t get me wrong, I love themed gardens as much as the next person (my plan is to have an English countryside, with stone walls and everything) because it takes some serious dedication to think of and construct them.

What frustrates me is when my veggies die mid-season, and I have an empty pot with nothing to plant in it. Oh I know, I could plant more, but I work like a train. I have a schedule and I stick to it. Sometimes, though, I don’t want to just plant more stuff. I want to create more things to put into my garden. Even upcycle pots and place them around my apartment as some rustic decor. These are the cutest terra cotta pot crafts I have ever seen. If you have leftover stuff from your own fairy garden that has magically become a ghost town, just recycle the pot and make some fun pot crafts.

What is your favorite food or flower to plant?

Link Love: Garden Crafts for Spring

March 28, 2013 by FaveCrafts 3 Comments

They say that March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb, and this month has really lived up to that reputation. From sub-zero temperatures to snowy days, there have been no shortage of weather related catastrophes in my neck of the woods. Luckily, however, April means the true start of spring. I love the blooming flowers, green leaves and, of course, warmer weather. One fun way to celebrate spring is by heading outside and planting a few flowers. Better yet, if you have the space, cultivate your own garden and fill it with handmade items.

There are so many ways to transform even the smallest space into a pretty garden. If you have a flower bed, you’ll want to create a Bead Buster Garden Stake or a Butterfly Garden Stake. Both of these projects add a fun touch to a sea of florals. If you don’t have access to a mound of dirt, you can use decorative clay pots and planters to add color to your space.  Our roundup, 10 Clay Posts You’ll Fall In Love With, features creative DIY ideas to get you started.

Head out to your garden, take a deep breath and celebrate spring – you deserve it after this winter season!

Too Cool for School

July 23, 2009 by FaveCrafts Leave a Comment

The summer has flown by. It doesn’t even feel like we had a summer this year. Come August all the kids are going back to school. I was never ready to leave school, but I guess you have to go into the working world at some point. There are so many ways you can get the kids back into the groove of going back to school soon. You know they love the summer and dread going back, so have some fun out of it. I found this really cute craft that kids can make for themselves, for a friend or for their teachers. It’s a terra cotta pot apple container. Kids can put anything they want in there, whether it’s little treats or even small school supplies. It’s really easy to make and I thought it was a cute craft, so I thought I’d share. Terra cotta pots are really cute, so if you like this craft you should check out the decorative pots. I really like the painted pots for the kitchen. Kids can definitely help out with this one. Get creative!
