Farewell Frosty!

March 23, 2014 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts Leave a Comment

On March 20th, we officially said goodbye to winter and hello to spring. Here at AllFreeChristmasCrafts, it’s a little bitter sweet. Obviously we love winter, but here in Chicago we’ve had our fill (Minnesota and Canada, we genuinely don’t know how you do it year after year. We commend you, friends). While I’m ready to let go of the snow, it breaks my heart a bit to say goodbye to snowman crafts.

Farewell-Frosty

I know I shouldn’t take sides, but snowman crafts are probably one of my favorite Christmas crafts around. When I see their cute carrot noses and little charcoal buttons, I just can’t help but smile! My mind fills with memories: soaked gloves, runny noses, the weight of the growing snowball as you roll it, the list goes on.  Growing up, my family was always outside playing the in the snow. We made snow forts, snow angels, snow tunnels, we even built little igloos, but our favorite thing to make had to be snowmen. As the years progressed, so did our snowmen. This perhaps was my favorite, meet Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc.:

Monsters-Inc
So in honor of the end of winter, I wanted to give Frosty and all his fellow snowmen a proper send off. From homemade Christmas ornaments to wonderful pieces of DIY Christmas decor to hang on your wall, front door, or mantel, there are plenty of ways you can create the last snowman of the season. Let’s wish Frosty a fond farewell with these snowman crafts!

Link Love: Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let it Snow

December 6, 2012 by FaveCrafts 1 Comment

Earlier this week, a strange thing happened – my air conditioning kicked on. The temperature outside was positively balmy and I was able to leave my house wearing tennis shoes rather than my standard fur-lined boots. While this was a nice vacation from the normal frigid winds and sub-zero temperatures, I couldn’t help feeling like something was missing – snow!

The temperatures are decreasing but it seems we’ll have to wait for snow to fall here in the Windy City. Until that time, I’ll settle for a few snow-inspired crafts. Snowmen, snowflakes and white glitter seem to be everywhere right now, so I’m definitely not the only one who’s ready to walk in a crafty winter wonderland. When looking for winter projects, it’s best to start with a long list and pick out a project or two. Our collection of 17 Snowman Christmas Crafts + 3 New Projects has everything you need for a season of crafting. Some of my personal favorites from this collection include Cute Easy Clay Snowman Ornaments and Snowman Candleholder. If you’re not a huge fan of snowmen, make a seasonal Cookie Cutter Snowflake Card and send it to someone special.

Take advantage of this warm and fuzzy Christmas feeling by creating some of these fantastic snow-themed crafts. When you’re done crafting a snowman, head outside with the family and make the real thing!

  1. Beaded Snowflakes from Torie Jayne
  2. Peanut Snowmen Holiday Ornament from Shade Tree Jewelry
  3. Snowflake Gift Ornaments from Just Crafty Enough
  4. Faux Snowy Pinecones from Dream a Little Bigger
  5. Easy Felt Snowflake Coasters from Billie Monster
  6. Bottle Cap Snowman Ornaments from One Artsy Momma
  7. Snowy Watercolours from The Mayberry Sparrow
  8. Crocheted Winter Wreath from Repeat Crafter Me
  9. Snowman Christmas Decoration from Plushka Craft

28 Top Christmas Crafts from January – Which is Your Favorite?

February 20, 2012 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts Leave a Comment

Are you a Crafty Christmas Ideas subscriber? AllFreeChristmasCrafts’ thrice-weekly newsletter is filled with DIY ideas, tutorials and projects that you can work on all year long. The Christmas season is the most wonderful time of the year, so why not keep it going even when the season is over? Whether you like to craft with the family or make something more complicated on your own, you’ll always find Christmas tutorials that suit your needs.

We’ve rounded up 28 Popular Christmas Crafts from January and we’re sharing them with you. Sign up for the newsletter and help us pick next month’s top projects!

Here are some more reader favorites from January:

Musical Christmas Wreath – Use a cardboard wreath form and old sheet music (or scrapbook papers) to decorate your door.

Crystal Snowflake Ornaments – Wire and beads – that’s all you need to create your own ornament. This tutorial is also featured in our latest eBook, How to Make Ornaments: 10 Christmas Ornaments to Make.

Snowman Pail Ornament

You might think that January mean the end of Christmas crafting, but think again! Last month, Crafty Christmas Ideas readers were out in full force and they loved everything from snowmen to festive wreaths. It seems that the more versatile the craft, the more popular it was with readers. For instance, the Birdie Ornament isn’t overtly Christmas-related (no Santa, snowmen or religious connotation), but it can be hung on a Christmas tree and made in an afternoon. Similarly, the 10 Minute Fabric Bracelet makes a great Christmas gift and can be worn to a holiday celebration. Best of all, it won’t go out of style and can be worn all year.

This isn’t to say that winter-themed projects weren’t popular. Snowmen and snowflake crafts were huge in January which makes sense considering this month is notoriously snowy! Readers loved turning their warm homes into a winter wonderland. January is the perfect time to stay inside and get creative.

Get In the Spirit with AllFreeChristmasCrafts

December 6, 2010 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts Leave a Comment

Tis the season to get crafty!  FaveCrafts has a variety of great projects for all seasons.  But if you’re looking for even more great holiday projects of all shapes and sizes, head over to AllFreeChristmasCrafts.com.

I love this site because all of the projects are cheap and easy!  I just moved into my first apartment, so I’ve been spending like crazy on everything from bills to kitchen appliances.  This season, I need to save.  That’s why AllFreeChristmasCrafts.com is so perfect.  We can all stand to save some money this holiday season.  Why not take a little extra time and make your holiday gifts or decorations?  Plus, I always appreciate when someone puts thought into a gift.

It’s not too late to get started on fantastic Christmas projects!  On AllFreeChristmasCrafts.com, you’ll find ideas for gifts, home decor and even wearable Christmas crafts.  Basically, it’s a one stop shop for all your favorite free Christmas projects.  With over 100 projects and counting, this site is stacked with great ideas.

Here are some great projects to get you started –

  1. Knitted Mini Christmas Stocking – How cute is this adorable ornament?  If you love to knit, this is the perfect project for you!  Make a bunch of these – they’re perfect decoration for a tree that needs that little extra sparkle.
  2. Santa Scarf – It doesn’t get much cuter than this scarf.  It’s perfect for the holiday season and it makes a great gift.  Sewing enthusiasts, this is your project!
  3. Felt Tree Skirt – A tree skirt is great for brightening up your holiday decor.  Some tree skirts can be pretty expensive, but this one is cheap and easy to make.  You don’t have to be a world-class crafter to make this project.

  1. Magnetic Nativity Scene – This project is reusable, which is fantastic if you’re trying to be frugal this season.  More importantly, it’s an education and fun for kids of all ages.  Stick these magnets anywhere!
  2. Baby Jesus Ornament – It doesn’t get much easier than this ornament.  Seriously, it’s so easy and fun to make – it’s perfect for beginners.  Plus, it’s a great religious craft.
  3. Candy Cane Bedroom Socks – I love cozy socks.  During the winter months, I love to keep my toes warm at night.  That’s why I’m obsessed with this project.  Avid knitters, you’ll love this pattern.

This is just a fraction of the awesome projects on AllFreeChristmasCrafts.com. Check out the site for many more great projects and ideas to get you started.

My favorite project on the site is the Christmas Treat Jar.  I gave a similar gift last year as part of a Secret Santa exchange.  I filled up a plain glass jar with candy and decorated it with paint pens.  I found that this was an inexpensive way to personalize a present.

So go craft-crazy this holiday season!  You won’t regret it.
