Papercrafting Your Summer Bucket List Memories

July 22, 2014 by AllFreePaperCrafts

This post is brought to you from Martha Bonneau from MugsyBoo.

Even though I have had a Pinterest board of summer bucket list ideas for the past few years, this is the first year that I have actually put a list of activities together for our family to try and complete this summer.  Initially the task of completing our bucket list seemed daunting, but I am happy to report we have crossed more than half the items off our list!

Paper Crafting Your Summer Bucket List

As a papercrafter, I have been looking for ideas on how to best preserve these memories.  Do I scrapbook each event, do I create a mini book, or do I create a pocket page style album?  The most ambitious way to document your summer would be to create a layout for each item on your list, but if time is at a premium, you could create a mini or pocket page album.  From making s’mores to going to see fireworks, we have rounded up lots of inspiration to get you motivated!

I love the idea of compiling your bucket list on a single layout like Jennifer did. Mini albums are a creative way to preserve your summer memories. These papercrafters show us how to create a pre-made summer bucket list album that can be filled with pictures at the end of summer…or fall or winter if time slips away from you!

More Summer Bucket List Ideas

Scrapbook albums with pocket-style pages have become a popular way to document your memories.  These albums come in a variety of sizes like this 4×4 example by Lisa and this traditional 12×12 by Michelle. Your Bucket List doesn’t even have to be documented in an album; these papercrafters have thought outside the album when it came to creating their lists.

Dog Days of Summer: Dog Themed Papercrafting Inspiration

July 15, 2014 by AllFreePaperCrafts

This post is brought to you by Martha Bonneau from Panda Eight.

July 3rd through August 11th brings us what is known as the “Dog Days of Summer”.  We see the warmest temperatures of the year as Sirius, the Dog Star, rises and sets with the sun each day. When you say “Dog Days of Summer,” I think of heat, heat and more heat!  The air conditioning is running constantly and I am looking for ways to cool down.  What better way to beat the heat than to stay in and do a little papercrafting inspired by the namesake of the Dog Days, man’s (and woman’s!) best friend: your family dog.

Memory Making 101: Scrapbook Page Ideas and Giveaway

February 4, 2014 by FaveCrafts

When my sister graduated from high school, my aunt gave her a scrapbook. It didn’t look like much at first glance. The cover was plain green and it only had a few photos on it. Inside, though, that book was bursting with handpicked photos, captions, and adorable embellishments. My aunt spent four years learning how to make a scrapbook, collecting decorative pages, stickers, and stamps along the way. Fifteen years ago, scrapbooking didn’t have as much of an online presence as it does today, so my aunt designed the cover, page layouts, and embellishments herself. If online resources like FaveCrafts and AllFreePaperCrafts had been available then, she might not have spent hours struggling to put it all together.

ScTropical Memories Scrapbook Coverrapbook Cover Ideas

Even if you don’t copy one of these templates exactly, these scrapbook cover ideas can make putting together a memory book so much easier. If you’re just learning how to make a scrapbook, take advantage of free printable designs and patterns for covers and layouts. You can make your scrapbook look like it was made by a professional without actually paying one.

We have great cover ideas at FaveCrafts, and one of my personal favorites is this Tropical Memories Scrapbook Cover. I can’t help it; when it’s snowing outside, all I want to think about is the beach. This cover is especially fun because it incorporates several different media, including paint and glass, to achieve its summery look. AllFreePaperCrafts has some wonderful scrap book cover ideas, too, whether you want your scrapbook to be classy and chic or cute and whimsical.

DIY Scrapbook EmbellishmentsBlooming Scrapbook Flowers

My sister’s scrapbook was absolutely amazing and perfectly suited to her hobbies and interests. Because she spent a lot of her time at music department rehearsals, concerts, and other events, my aunt dotted the pages with notes, instruments, and marching band shakos.

Scrapbooking has become even more popular, so you can find embellishments to fit almost any theme. If you can’t find what you need in a store, there are tons of ways to make DIY scrapbook embellishments for only a few dollars. Take these Blooming Scrapbook Flowers, for instance. All you need is paper and a thumbtack to make one of these beautiful blooms.

Budding Stars Scrapbook LayoutScrapbook Layout Ideas

I’d occasionally flip through the pages of my sister’s scrapbook, wondering what the layouts for my book would look like. “Here’s where she’ll put the newspaper clipping from the play I’ll star in,” I’d think. “This would be the perfect layout for my Junior Prom photo with my super cute boyfriend!”

I finally made it through high school–without auditioning for a single play OR attending Junior Prom–and at my graduation party I could hardly wait to open my aunt’s present. I opened her gift box to find a hoodie from my college-to-be. It was a sweet gift; it just wasn’t the gift.

My aunt was so worn out from putting together layouts for the first scrapbook to even consider making one for me. Luckily, I can make my own cute pages with the help of scrapbook layout ideas like this Budding Stars Scrapbook Layout. Pink is my favorite color, so if I had starred in a play, this is definitely the page I would’ve chosen for that newspaper clipping.

Timbergrove Scrapbook Set

BONUS! We’re giving away one Timbergrove Scrapbook Set, a fabulous kit filled with coordinated paper and stickers. It also has some helpful tips on how to make memorable scrapbook pages and greeting cards. Check out our giveaway page to enter. Theresa Collins eBosser Unveling + Brand New Card Craft

September 14, 2013 by FaveCrafts

Papercrafters, get excited!

On September 17th at 1 pm EST , Craftwell will unveil the brand new Theresa Collins eBosser on the Home Shopping Network. In anticipation of this exciting event, FaveCrafts is participating in a celebratory blog hop! Be sure to scroll down for a list of participating craft designers and sites – we’re in great company!

We asked one of our top craft designers, Michele Kovack from Thoughts of a Cardmaking Scrapbooker, to create a card using the eBosser and we’re so excited to share her finished design.

Hi! Michele Kovack here with a tutorial for my vintage-inspired card!  I love to use die cuts and embossing to give my projects for greater depth and interest, and my eBosser is perfect for both of these!  I have to admit it, but I can be a lazy crafter.  I hate having to turn the handle each and everytime I cut something out.  I am also a multi-tasker, so while it cuts for me, I can walk away and do something else!  I love that! So let’s get started, shall we?

I love the image of these two cuties by Crafty Secrets.

When I am die cutting, I often use artist’s tape to hold the die in place.  Nothing aggravates me more than having that little die shift while it’s cutting!

I stacked my plates according to the directions.  (They’re VERY easy to follow, I might add!)

I turned my machine on and feed the plates through.

I wanted to matte my image with this fun polka dot paper, so I chose a pretty Spellbinder’s die.

I colored my image, distressed it and added crystal effects for the bubbles.

I love using flowers as accents and used these flower dies from Spellbinders and ran it through the eBosser once again!

Here are my pieces laid out in front of me.  Now it’s time to assemble the card!

I love how easy it is to cut and emboss with the eBosser!  I have had other machines, but this one by far is my favorite!

In addition to the Blog Hop, Craftwell is hosting an awesome giveaway! You could win a  Theresa Collins folder or eCraft ToolKits. Additionally, one lucky crafter will even receive a Theresa Collins eBosser! The first 250 people to leave a comment on EVERY Theresa Collins eBosser Blog Hop post (including this post and one from each of the bloggers below) will be entered for this giveaway. The drawing for the winners will be revealed on October 1st on the Craftwell Blog.

5 Unexpected Uses for Glass Beads

August 7, 2013 by FaveCrafts

This post is brought to you by Andre Smith.

Glass beads are so versatile. Not only are there several sizes, shapes, and types of glass beads, but you can use them in a wide variety of craft projects. Most of the time when people think of beads, the first craft that comes to mind is jewelry making, which is a very viable creative outlet for the use of beads. However, knitting, mixed media art, cross stitch, and home decor projects are also great areas in which you can use glass beads. Below are five great craft ideas and how you can incorporate the use of beads into them.

Mixed Media Art

Mixed media art has always been around, but lately the framed pictures with all manner of material used to create unique and eye-catching artwork has really expanded and become more a part of the art world. A canvas does not have to be a home simply for paint. Instead, you can use charms, pendants, pipe cleaner, pieces of magazines, scrapbook components, and virtually anything else you can think of to create art that is framed (without glass) and literally pops off the page. Glass beads are a great addition to this type of work, as well. A great example of this kind of craft is a Blank Board Book Flourish Cover, in which you can use a variety of craft materials to create a one-of-a-kind piece,

Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking is another area of crafting in which glass beads can become very helpful. Use some glass seed beads to add definition or use beads and ribbon to create a page edging or border. You can also take some glass beads and wire and create your own addition to the page, like a wire letter with beading or a wedding bell shape with a few crystal-like glass beads. The possibilities are endless when it comes to incorporating beads into your scrap-booking projects, and glass is a great option, particularly since glass beads come in so many different shapes so as to accommodate a wide variety of themes.

Knitting and Crochet

Knitting and crochet are two yarn crafts that are becoming increasingly popular. Adding a bit of beading to your knitting or crochet project can bring some extra elegance, charm, and class. One crafty example is the Silk Lace Bag. This looks like a simple crochet bag pattern, but the beads give it an unexpected look and texture. The tricky part about using glass beads in knitting and crochet is that you’ll need to know exactly how many beads you need before you start, as you’ll have to string them first. Then, let them rest down by the ball or skein of yarn until you need them, at which point you can just slide them up and use them in your knitting or crochet.

Silk Floral Arrangements

One area of home decor crafting in which you can incorporate glass beads is the creation of silk floral arrangements. You may have seen sand and river rock used in a vase with silk flowers to create an interesting and unique look. However, what you might not know is that you can also use glass beads to create the same effect. Whether you want to use chilli pepper shaped beads with red silk roses to create a kitchen accent or simple round beads mixed in with other mediums, using glass beads in the vase or base of your silk floral projects is a great way to add creativity and personality.

Wreath Making

Wreath Fit For a Goddess Another area of home decor crafting that benefits from the addition of glass beads is wreath making. Floral additions, birds, bird nests, butterflies, and a wide array of other items are available for those who craft wreathes. However, adding glass beads to the mix can add some sparkle and shine to your creation. Try using the wire from a bird or butterfly embellishment to string on some beads in beautiful colors, curling the end of the wire with pliers, then wrapping the beaded wire around some of the wicker or wreath. Instead of having an ugly wire you have to hide somewhere in the back, you now have a beautiful addition to the wreath, and it is less likely to poke or injure people who may arrange various aspects of the wreath, as well.

Glass beads provide the crafter with a wide variety of opportunities in nearly every area of crafting. From beaded lampshades to scrapbooks, mixed media art to wreaths, and even jewellery making, there are endless opportunities for you to express your creativity using glass beads.

Some of the information for this article was found on Just Fabulous Glass Beads.

Start Summer with This Lovely Scrapbook Layout

June 6, 2013 by FaveCrafts

This project is brought to you by Latrice Murphy for Any Occasion.

It’s finally spring and I have been in the mood to get some of my current photos down on paper. Today I have a bright and cheery layout to share with you using a new collection from Little Yellow Bicycle call Poppy.

For this layout, I decided I would use lots of the patterned papers and the die cut flower stickers along with the Naturals collection of hearts. I layered florals on the bottom with my journaling. Alongside the photo, I added large banners and clustered florals.

I added stitching here and there to give the layout a finished feel. I also raised a few of the flowers with 3D squares to give it more dimension. The clear cuts are my favorite pieces. I love that you can layer them and still see what’s behind. I used a couple of the flourishes on this page. This collection is one of my favorites for sure.
