15 Recycled Crafts You Didn’t Know You Needed

June 15, 2018 by FaveCrafts

As the state of our environment continues to worsen, I’ve started including environmentally-friendly habits into my lifestyle. For example, if I need to be somewhere nearby, I’ll walk instead of drive. Whether you believe it or not, small habits can go a long way. Maybe you can’t save the planet on your own, but switching to a greener lifestyle will definitely contribute to conserving our environment.

Although you have so many possibilities for helping the earth, green crafting is a great way to reduce pollution and waste. One of the biggest contributors to the environment’s current state is landfills. We throw so much garbage away daily that we don’t know what to do with it anymore. Even recyclable materials such as plastic and paper aren’t always recycled. Instead, they’re mixed with all of the other trash.

Lucky in Love St. Patrick’s Day Card and Pedestal

March 9, 2016 by FaveCrafts

Today we have a guest post from Stefanie Girard from Sweater Surgery! She’ll be sharing with us an easy way to decorate for St. Patrick’s day. For more great tutorials, be sure to check out her blog!

Stefanie Girard, St. Patrick's Day

Good thing we have lots of holidays to celebrate as it gives all of us card makers and crafters lots of reasons to get our paper, recycled cardboard, and die cutter out. After crafting with my heart dies for Valentine’s Day, I knew I could then use them to make clovers and shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day and that is just what I did for this card.

IMG_3040

In addition to die cutting 3 hearts to make the clover for the card, I die cut the words “lucky”, “in,” and “love” using all different fonts and dies with my Sizzix die cutter. To make the stem of the clover I just trimmed by hand a scrap of the green glitter paper I used for all the other elements.

IMG_3043

In addition to my Lucky in Love St. Patrick’s day card, I wanted to make a little pedestal for my vintage wedding cake bride and groom. The glitter cardstock was a bit too flimsy so I went to my pantry-one of my best sources of recycled cardboard. A Chex cereal box was perfect! I was careful where I die cut the cardboard as to maximize the green areas of the box. I did add a small square of the coordinating green plaid paper on the top of the die cut pedestal for an added element.

I hope you have fun with this “green” craft and are lucky enough to celebrate St. Patrick’s day with someone you love!

February 3, 2016 by FaveCrafts

We’re talking about Galentine’s Day!

Galentine’s Day is February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day. Galentine’s Day is about celebrating all of the wonderful women in your life. The day was originally created by Leslie Knope, Amy Poehler’s character on the wonderful television show Parks and Recreation. Every year, Leslie spent the day before Valentine’s Day with all her female friends, celebrating their friendship and their love for each other.

This idea has become so popular, that Galentine’s Day celebrations are now a common occurrence across the country! And why shouldn’t they be? We love the idea of women coming together to celebrate each other and to celebrate their friendships. 10 Thrifty Recycled Crafts for Summer Fun

June 13, 2014 by AllFreeKidsCrafts

10 Thrifty Recycled Crafts for Summer FunEvery kid looks forward to summertime because they get to spend some time doing fun creative activities. Kids get to let loose and run around outside in the sun instead of being in a classroom all day. The challenge, though, is keeping your kids occupied with fun summer activities. My kids are all energy and no down time, so I’m constantly searching for new activities to keep them entertained. Now, I love using recycled crafts to entertain my children because I don’t have to worry about spending a lot of money on projects to keep them occupied. I’ve found that the coolest recycled craft that my kids love are the Adorable Minion Lawn Darts because they can’t get enough of the Minions. This fun craft keeps them outside for hours at a time. I have a hard time getting them to come inside when it’s time for lunch.

Of course, you need to plan for the summer days when the weather might not be as nice as you’d like it to be, so it’s always a great idea to add some indoor activities to your list. Any time I come across cardboard boxes, I immediately grab them because my kids love turning them into a fort or Creative Cardboard Box Cars. They always have a blast making things out of the cardboard boxes. Sometimes they prefer playing with cardboard boxes over anything else. That’s why it’s always a good idea to find new cardboard boxes to bring home.

Most of the materials for these crafts were already in my house, so I didn’t have to scramble around town looking for things that my children can use for their crafts. These no-fuss crafts really made it easier for me to keep my children happy.

Outdoor Activities

Summertime is all about playing with your kids outside in the sun, so you need to have some fun summer activities that will get the whole family outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. The Water Bottle Rocket is the perfect kids craft to get your little ones outside; after all, what kid doesn’t like to shoot things off into into the air?

Indoor Activities

Indoor activities are always a great idea to have for when it’s nasty and rainy outside. Your kids can throw a burst of color into a cloudy day when they make Color Burst Melted Crayon Art. This a great activity idea to do, especially when your kids have a bunch of old, broken crayons that they never use.

Color Blocking and Upcycled Clothing Ideas

April 10, 2014 by AllFreeSewing

9 Ways to Transform Old T-Shirts

Color blocking is slated to come back in full force over the next few months. As the sun comes out and our world gets just a bit brighter, our clothes should be doing the same. Color blocking is an amazing way to wear bright, stunning colors while still looking chic. Plus, many color blocking pieces are extremely flattering and slimming. Mostly black pieces can really help you look trim and adding color blocking to those pieces means you do not have to sacrifice flair. Whether you are looking for a color block dress pattern or searching for a DIY t-shirt reconstruction, one of these 9 Color Blocking and Upcycled Clothing Ideas will surely become a staple in your already fantastic wardrobe.

I personally love color blocking on clothes. It never really goes out of a style and always looks timeless and vintage. One of my favorite dresses in my closet is a mod color blocked dress that features big splashes of blue. Plus, color block pieces are so simple that you can pretty much pair them with anything. If you like big jewelry, you can go totally 80s with chunky, costume jewelry. If you are more of a subtle girl, you can wear a simple pearl necklace with a color blocked piece to look like a sassy Audrey Hepburn.

I have compiled these particular projects together because they combine my love of color blocking and bright colors with my love of t-shirt reconstruction. Many of these mod and fab pieces are created by upcycling t-shirts and other clothing. I just love to be able to give new life to an old piece. It saves you money and gives you a sassy new wardrobe in the process.
