How to Celebrate the “Catching Fire” Release

November 18, 2013 by AllFreeHolidayCrafts

It’s been over a year since Katniss Everdeen has graced the big screen, and we’ve been counting down the days until the “Catching Fire” premiere ever since. Finally the wait is almost over, but we need all the help we can get to carry us through the final countdown. Over at AllFreeHolidayCrafts.com, we’ve found a few ways to make the final stretch less painful. Keep yourself busy during these next 4 days with our favorite “Hunger Games” crafts and prep for the premiere!

“Hunger Games” Book Charms

While you wait for “Catching Fire” why not brush up on your Panem history? With your own “Hunger Games” Book Charms you can power through your favorite chapters and familiarize yourself with your favorite scenes and characters before you witness them on the big screen. These adorable book marks make great gifts for your fellow-readers, and they’re simple enough for kids to join in on the fun.

“Hunger Games” Love Sign

If you’re still aching for the premiere, try hosting a “Hunger Games” viewing-party, we’ve got the perfect piece of party decor for you. “Hunger Games” Love Sign will have your guests falling in love with the story all over again. What better way to decorate your front door than with a sign commemorating everyone’s favorite character as the countdown to the “Catching Fire” release comes to a close? Decorating your door may not seem like enough for the loyalist of fans, so pop a few Glistening Mockingjay Emblems on your windows for an added splash of support.

“Hunger Games” Cookies

These cookies are the perfect activity to work on the day before “Catching Fire” premieres. Finish a few batches and bag these cookies up, because you’re bringing a snack along! With wax paper as your aid, these piped mocking jays are a cinch! Your guests and friends will love these trendy mockingjay treats.

Good luck creating these “The Hunger Games” crafts, and may the odds be ever in your favor!

Who’s your favorite character from “Catching Fire?”

How to Throw a Fabulous Fiesta

May 2, 2012 by AllFreeHolidayCrafts

Put on your sombreros and get out the maracas because Cinco de Mayo is this weekend!  If nothing else this holiday is a great excuse to throw a fantastic party, complete with themed food, drinks and of course crafts!  And because it falls on a Saturday this year, that’s just one more way of the universe telling you to throw a fiesta for your friends!

Never planned a fiesta before?  Not to worry!   I’ve rounded up everything you need to know below:

Cinco de Mayo Party Foods:

Since I’m a girl who loves to eat, I thought I’d start by sharing what I consider to be the star of any party: the food!  For a Cinco de Mayo themed fiesta there are some standards you should definitely serve, like chips and guacamole, cheesy nachos, and a variety of salsas (I like to make them ranging from mild to flaming hot to suit my guests’ differing taste buds!). Oh, and the drinks!  How could I forget the margaritas!  Serve up any one of these delicious concoctions (adults only, of course!) and your guests are guaranteed to have a blast at your fiesta!

But if you want to go a bit more outside the box with your party foods, here are some cute ideas I found thanks to my new best friend Pinterest!  Try these and your party is sure to be a hit!

Margarita Cupcakes, via Brown Eyed Baker

Chips and Salsa Cookies (yes, they’re actually cookies, not chips!) via The Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Decorations:

Now that we’re all squared away on the menu, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to decorate for your fiesta!  Streamers and pinatas seem like a given, but there are some other unexpected party decorations I wanted to share with you.  And if you remember only one thing from this post it should be this: Go colorful or go home!

Dyed Streamers, via Lil Blue Boo

Now that you have ideas for decorations, snacks and drinks, you’re pretty much set to get your fiesta started!  May 5th can’t get here soon enough, if you ask me!

Did I miss anything?  What would you make for a fiesta?

Foolish Food: How to Trick Them With Treats

March 30, 2012 by FaveCrafts

As the target of one too many April Fool’s pranks, I have to say I’m not a huge fan of the “holiday.”  However, I do think a little bit of harmless fun is okay, and I think I’ve discovered one of the best ways to trick your friends and family without hurting anyone.  What’s that, you ask?  Fool them with food!

I’ve been seeing tons of tutorials for crafts that look like food lately, and to take that trend one step further, it seems a lot of people have been making food that looks like other food.  By that I mean cake that looks like pizza, Tootsie Rolls that look like hamburgers, mashed potatoes that look like ice cream, rice krispie treats that look like Hershey Kisses, cupcakes that look like corn on the cob, and a bunch of treats where you think you’re biting into one thing but suddenly taste something completely different.  Fun, huh?

Here are some easy-to-make foods “in disguise” that will be so much fun to whip up for April Fool’s Day:

Think this fried egg looks yummy?  Think again!  This seemingly-delicious breakfast item is actually more of a dessert.  It’s made from vanilla yogurt and canned peaches!  Clever, no?

It’s hard to stop your mouth from watering when you see an entire Kentucky Fried Chicken meal laid out before you. But what if that meal wasn’t really the crispy chicken, buttery corn and baked beans you were expecting?  The “faux meal” pictured is actually created from a bunch of different sweets, from Twinkies and jelly beans to rice krispie treats and pretzel sticks!  You’d never guess it just by looking, which is what makes this a recipe for success when it comes to an April Fool’s Day food fake out!

This is what you would call the opposite of a sweet surprise. These frosted “cupcakes” may look like dessert perfection, but really they’re filled with a meat loaf center and a mashed potato frosting on top. Imagine your friend’s reaction when they find out the cupcake you gave them is more savory than sweet!

These Faux French Fries are the perfect trick for the fast food lover in your life.  Just set this basket of fries in front of your unsuspecting “victim” and watch their face as they discover their favorite finger food snack is actually frozen pound cake!

This last one isn’t even made of food, but it sure looks like it!  If you’re pretty sure your intended target won’t fall for your prank, this is a good one to try (so they don’t get harmed!).  These Cupcake Bath Bombs may look delicious, but they’re actually made out of soap!  Leave one of these tasty-looking treats out on your kitchen counter and see if your target takes the bait.  It’s pretty hard to resist this tempting cupcake, so he or she may just end up with a mouth full of soap!

Now even though these food pranks are all in good fun, you might want to have a plan of action in case the person you fooled is looking to get you back.  After all, the last thing you’d want is to end up with a mouthful of meatloaf cupcake!

Who are YOU planning to prank this April Fool’s Day?  What are you planning to do?
