Show Stopping Mother’s Day Cards

April 30, 2013 by AllFreeHolidayCrafts

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and I’m sure some of you are at a loss as to how to show mom your appreciation. Believe it or not, most of the time what mom really loves is the sentiment of the whole gift. Homemade Mother’s Day cards offer the perfect opportunity to express what you can’t always say. Sure the gift is nice, but the card is the real gem of Mother’s Day. Give your mom a show stopping card this year by making one yourself.  These creative Mother’s Day card ideas will give your message to mom some style.

Must-See Mother’s Day Card Ideas

"Inked" Mother's Day CardWe’ll start off fairly simple for you. This “Inked” Mother’s Day Card retains the classic structure of a greeting card in its shape. What differs in this DIY card is the tattoo-inspired sewn front piece. This card is great because it can be funny and sentimental. The tattooed front can recall mom’s wilder, often unspoken youth, “Does it look like your tattoo, mom?” you can jokingly (or seriously) ask. She’ll get a good laugh out of seeing “mom” classically stitched on the front of this card. When she opens it up, she’ll tear up at your sweet words of appreciation. In one way or another, we all have “Mom” tattooed on our hearts, so why not express it?

Green Embellished Mother's Day CardYou can flip the fold of that conventional card and make this Green Embellished Mother’s Day Card. Like any other card, this Mother’s Day card opens up to reveal your meaningful message. Unlike any other card though, the cover is supremely special. The most interesting aspect of this DIY card is the front. From this tutorial you can learn how to gussy up regular cardstock with fabric and pom-poms. It’s loud, gaudy and fabulous; it’s the perfect way to express your abounding feelings for mummsie.

3D Greeting CardsThese 3D Greeting Cards not only look amazing, they’re also super fun to make. Forget giving this project to the kids, make this yourself – to give to mom, of course. Your mom will love these pop-up cards from Creme de la Craft. Get goofy in your design. You can make pop-ups of inside jokes between you and mom or special memories. This is one card that comes to life!

Momma Bird Loves Baby Bird CardI’m in love with this Momma Bird Loves Baby Card. It’s a simple yet perfect depiction of a mother-child relationship. Despite being well over my toddler years, I’m constantly assured by my mom that I’m still, in fact, a baby. I think she’ll love this sturdy paper craft, as will most mothers. By following the links to this greeting card tutorial, you can access the printables to make these adorable momma and baby birds.

FaveCrafts Valentine Swap: Here’s What I Got

February 14, 2012 by FaveCrafts

The FaveCrafts Card Swap is officially over, and it was officially a success! We had 318 swappers participate, which was more than double last year’s swap participation! Thanks to everyone who swapped with us. I hope you’ll join our next swap too!

I got my card in the mail the other day! Thank you so much to my swap partner Kathy. She made me a gorgeous Valentine with a faux flower embellishment and a bit of bling. She even left the inside blank so I can give this card to someone next year. How sweet! Wanna see the card I got?

Here’s the beautiful front:

I love the shadowing effect of the lettering and the different sized circles. I also really love the addition of the faux flower. It gives it so much texture and dimension! And of course I’m a sucker for bling–aren’t we all?

Here’s the blank inside:

Hmm, I wonder who I should send this to? I could even use it before next Valentine’s Day since it doesn’t say “Happy Valentine’s Day” on it.

And the best part? It came in a bright yellow envelope (my favorite color of all time!!)

Thanks again, Kathy, and thanks to everyone who participated in the swap! You can check out the glittery pop-up heart card I made this year, and also the sewn Valentine I made for last year’s swap.

If you participated in the swap, post photos of the cards you received on our Facebook wall. I’d love to see them!

My Glittery, Pop-up Heart Card for the FaveCrafts Swap

February 10, 2012 by FaveCrafts

Tomorrow is the deadline for all of our card swappers to send in their handmade cards! Did you miss the sign-up? Never fear! We’ll be hosting more swaps in the future! Since FaveCrafts hosted the swap, we had to send a card to our partner too! Here’s what my partner got.

The front:

And the inside:

And here’s how I made it!

Materials:

  • Cardstock for the outside
  • Cardstock for the inside
  • Washi tape
  • Glue stick
  • Martha Stewart Valentine’s Day paper
  • Martha Stewart Valentine’s Day glitter
  • X-acto knife
  • Scissors

 Instructions:

  1. I printed the Pixelated Pop-up Valentine template onto my red cardstock and cut along the printed lines with an X-acto knife, following the instructions on Minieco.
  2. Then I adhered the red cardstock to some pink cardstock using polka dot washi tape.
  3. After that I used a glue stick and some glitter to add the little hearts to the bottom of the card.
  4. Finally, I wrote a little message to my partner using red pen.
  5. For the front of the card, I cut down a piece of Martha Stewart paper and adhered that to the pink cardstock using more washi tape (I’m obsessed!).
  6. Then I cut out a heart shape from a piece of glittery Martha Stewart paper and glued that down on top.

What do you think? Looks pretty simple, right? Card swappers: post a photo of your card on Facebook and I might feature them on the blog or in a newsletter!
