Sewing fun: Spring into some color!

March 22, 2011 by AllFreeSewing

Spring is always an exciting time of year as we slowly unravel from the gloom of winter.  When we all start suffering from winter cabin fever and can’t wait to clean out the mess with a yearly spring cleaning, spending some time doing some simple spring sewing projects can be a great way to get ready!  This is the perfect time of year to update some old pillows that were going to get tossed with the spring cleaning, freshen up your dinner table with new serving napkins, or get ready for those family picnics with a new picnic blanket.

Napkin Folded Pillow Case Spring Napkins Picninc Blanket Tattered Spring Flowers

This simple Napkin Folded Pillow Case can be completed in just an evening and will quickly brighten up pillows you’ve gotten tired of looking at. Try making these adorable Spring Napkins to liven up the dinner table tonight, make them in any or all of your favorite colors. They’ll also be a great addition if you’re itching to start getting that old picnic basket ready. If you are, try making a new blanket with this Picnic Blanket Tutorial and add a little floral charm to the basket or anything else in your home with these brightly colored Tattered Flowers for Embellishment. The best part about these projects? They’re all do-able in a weekend or less!

So go ahead and get started! It may not feel like it yet, but Spring is just around the corner so why wait for the flowers to start blooming when you can create some of your very own! Your home will thank you.

New Pattern Monday: Homemade Halloween

October 4, 2010 by FaveCrafts

Halloween is right around the corner, and we at FaveCrafts have been busy getting new Halloween projects for you to make. Here are some of my favorites from last week:

Giant Bow Halloween Wreath: Make flowers  from fabric with this tutorial for a giant bow Halloween wreath. Yes, it’s a bold decor statement, but what about Halloween isn’t?

Eeks! Spider Pillow: Make a creepy crawly quilted pillow with these Halloween sewing patterns from Baby Lock. Learn how to make a decorative pillow that will make you say “Eeks! Spider!”

Creepy Card: Use this Halloween card craft to make a creepy card for someone special. This paper craft is just creepy enough for Halloween.

See all of our Halloween projects and our Halloween Kids Projects, in case none of these new patterns tickles your fancy!

Home Decor: Living room redo inspiration and projects

July 13, 2010 by FaveCrafts

I’ve been thinking about how to decorate the living room. I did a little blogsurfing and found a few creative, inspiring, and amazing redo’s. I’m a DIY girl, so I love the living room redo’s where there are homemade projects. Two of my favorites are The Homesteading Apartment’s Makeover Monday and  and Southern Comfort’s Living Room Project Breakdown. And when I found The DIY Show Off’s blog, I got VERY inspired–check out her before and afters.

Then it was off to the FaveCrafts site to find some projects that I could try for my living room  redo. First, there was the broad search of Decorating Ideas. Then, to get some wall ideas (my living room has some very big walls), I cruised the Wall Decor section. And I found some specific ideas that I thought I might have to ponder. I have some pillows that need sprucing up, so I though the Flower Petal Pillow was inspiring. And I’ve got two matching lamps that definitely need a pick-me-up — will it be re-covering the lamp shade or mosaics on the base like these spheres (right). Since I’m a rescuer of abandoned furniture, Amy Anderson’s upcycling idea will certainly find a place in my decor. And there are a couple of ideas for room dividers: the Screen Fabric Panels and the Fall Foliage Room Screen.

In all, I’ve got a lot to think about in decorating my living room. What type of living room redo projects have you tackled lately? Have you done a whole room, or just a few projects to refresh your decor? Leave a comment and let us know! And if you’re willing to share pictures, post them on our Facebook page!

You Complete Me Pillowcases

February 3, 2009 by FaveCrafts

While I’m still determined to embroider a squid onto a pillowcase for my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day/1 Year anniversary, these Iron-on pillowcase transfers from Creature Comforts are mighty tempting. I love how the two pillow cases fit together for the message You Complete Me to be, ahem, complete. It’s corny, yes, but also adorable. And the project is easy, which is always great.
