Link Love: Pretty Pinwheels

April 11, 2013 by FaveCrafts

Nothing screams spring like pretty pinwheels. To me, they indicate warm weather and cool breezes – pretty sweet if you ask me. You can make pinwheels that stand alone and decorate your lawn or you can use them to decorate a wreath or garland. Step outside the box and use unexpected materials like Post-It Notes and vintage book pages to create your own versions of these delightful spring crafts. When you’re finished you’ll be ready to embrace the glorious aspects of spring and summer.

There are so many fun pinwheel craft ideas and you don’t have to be an expert to create them. Use metal wire and beads to create your own Pinwheel Jewelry Plant Stake. This is a great way to get rid of odds and ends while still creating something substantial that you can display all season long. If you’re hosting an outdoor gathering or party in the next few months, you’ll want to decorate your space to fit the mood. Make a bunch of Polka Dot Paradise Pinwheels and add them to your front lawn or backyard – they add a pretty touch to a sparse space. This project is super easy, so you can ask the kids to help. If you just want to add a cool, crafty touch to your space, make a bunch of paper pinwheels and glue them to a wreath form. A Pretty Paper Pinwheel Wreath looks good all year long and never goes out of style.

Spring has sprung, so it’s time to celebrate. Capture the fun and excitement of the season with a few pretty pinwheel crafts. Big or small, your creation is sure to put you in a good mood. Grab your favorite supplies (fabric, paper, or something else entirely) and unleash your creativity!

  1. Fabric Pinwheel Flower by Little Livingstone
  2. Little Golden Books Pinwheels by Tried and True
  3. Spring Pinwheel Wreath from The Cards We Drew
  4. Vintage Book Page Pinwheel Banner from Ella Claire
  5. Post-it Pinwheels from Smart School House
  6. Pinwheel Bouquet & Boutonniere from My Own Labels
  7. Pinwheel & Pearl Cupcake Topper from Poofy Cheeks
  8. Prairie Points Pinwheel from Sewn Up by TeresaDownUnder
  9. Oversized Pinwheels from Design Editor

Pinwheel PillowsPinwheels are so much fun to make! Here are some more projects for you to try today.

  1. Pretty Paper Pinwheel Wreath
  2. Pinwheel Hair Clip
  3. Polka Dot Paradise Pinwheels
  4. Pinwheel Jewelry Plant Stake

How To: Birthday Reminder Book

December 5, 2012 by FaveCrafts

I am the first to admit that I am not the best at getting out birthday cards on time, let alone getting them out at all. As a person who not only owns the supplies necessary to make handmade cards but also makes plenty of cards all the time just for fun, there really is no excuse except that I forget.

One of my favorite crafts to make is something that helps me in my daily life. So I made up a little reminder book to track all these birth dates in order to get a little more organized. This is a quick and simple craft tutorial that is the basics for making a little book. It is also a great project for recycling those cardboard or cereal boxes.

Birthday Reminder Book Tutorial

Materials:

  • Chipboard
  • Patterned Paper and/or Cardstock
  • Adhesive
  • Scissors
  • Bone Folder or Scoring Tool
  • Crop-a-Dile or Hole Punch
  • Tab Punch
  • Stapler
  • Word Window Punch (optional)
  • Stamps and Ink (optional)
  • Ribbon (optional)
  • Buttons (optional)

Instructions:

1. Cut out Chipboard (you can use a cereal box, those work great too!) for the cover.
Measurements are 4″ x 10″.
Cut the paper you would like for the cover as well.
Measurements are 5.25″ x 11.25″.

2. With a glue stick or tape runner, stick your chipboard to your paper and snip the corners like so.

3. Score along the edges of the chipboard so that your paper will fold over smoothly.

4. Place double sided tape all along the four sides. You really need strong adhesive for this so that it will stay put forever.

5. Fold in all four sides. I like to do top and bottom first, then the sides.

6. Snipping the corners gives you nice mitered corners for that finished look, all nice and neat.

7. Next you will need another piece of paper to cover the center.
Measurements are 2.75″ x 8.75″. Glue in place.

8. Next, punch out a piece of paper using the tab punch.
Wrap punched tab around desired pencil or pen and hold to the side of the book.
Slip out pencil/pen and staple in place.

9. Your cover is done, you can embellish as you like. I always start out simple and then add to it later.

10. Next we need tabs for the pages so that each month is easy to flip to.
I used a word window punch and alphabet stamps for this part. You can also cut strips of paper and write out or type the months.
Hint: When using a punch, stamp the words first and then punch out.

11. Print out the inside pages from your computer on nice white cardstock, then attach the tabs with glue dots to the back of each month.
I put the pages on their side to line up the months as best I can.

12. Punch a hole with a crop-o-dile at the top right corner. It will go through the cover and all the pages in one punch!
Grab your messy ribbon jar and add some to the binding clip you’re using to hold the whole book together. Wait, you don’t have a junky ribbon jar like me? Really? Well, grab your ribbon scraps and tie them on the clip for a fun embellishment.

13. Then you’ll need to do is add your friends’ birthdays. I add the most important ones first.

14. Embellish the cover more if you like.
I added a stamped cupcake and some buttons.
Slip in your pencil and you are all set!

Do you send out handmade birthday cards? How do you stay organized when it comes to handmade gifts?

Surprise! AllFreeHolidayCrafts.com has exciting news for all of you readers. We love featuring crafts for holidays that come around once a year, but there’s one day that we get to celebrate during any time of the year. Birthdays are a special part of all of our lives, and what better way to wish someone well on their big day than with crafts?

For those of you looking for ideas for a unique birthday gift or a stand-out party decoration, start your search below with these free festive birthday crafts.

Bright Balloon Wreath
– This top birthday craft shows that you can get your party popping with birthday leftovers. The creative rainbow pattern is a surefire way for your guests to know where the party is, and the materials save money on party supplies. This is one of our many recycled wreath projects, so be sure to check out our birthday page for even more.

Birthday Princess Bracelet – If you’re throwing a party for your little one, you’re going to need a craft that will keep everyone busy and having fun. Try our popular bracelet craft; it’s made of recycled cardboard tubes and can be decorated with anything your birthday girl can imagine. This easy DIY bracelet allows all your little party guests to use their own ideas to look just like royalty.

Sports Ball Party Ornaments – Not only are our birthday crafts for little princesses, but also for future sports stars. One of my personal favorites is this group of ornaments because they look realistic and only require styrofoam and paint. You can create anything from a baseball to a tennis ball with plenty of time to spare.

Quilled Birthday Candles – Safety is one of the most important elements of party planning, and this little craft provides an elegant alternative to wax candles. They’re made entirely of paper and wire, which means there’s no mess and no risk of fire. These quilled candles look intricate, but are very easy to make, and can be reused for future birthdays to come.

Hidden Message Thank You Cards – No party can be complete without thanking all of your guests. I know I would be touched if I received a personalized thank you card like this; the colorful flaps each reveal their own secret message that you can customize as little or as much as you want to. Forget store-bought cards and really show your heartfelt thanks after your next party.

All of us at AllFreeHolidayCrafts.com are so excited to be able to share these new birthday craft ideas with you. Be sure to check out our page if you’re interested in putting your own twist on birthday crafting.

Create a Bridal Fantasy with these Wedding Crafts

July 16, 2012 by AllFreeHolidayCrafts

We’ve all seen those crazy wedding shows in which the brides and their families try unsuccessfully to put together last-minute crafts for a big wedding. The editors here at AllFreeHolidayCrafts.com know that stress, so we’ve decided to feature some of our favorite DIY wedding projects to inspire you to make the next wedding you attend, be it your own or someone else’s, a perfect fantasy.

Our craft projects provide everything from decorations to handmade gifts, so start exploring these creative ways to make successful, easy wedding crafts.

Cute Fabric Save the Date Banner – You don’t even need to wait until the wedding to show off your crafting skills. Include this fun little fabric banner in your announcement photo and your guests will be sure to remember the date. With your choice of colors, crafting for the big day can start as soon as you’re ready.

Flower Appliqued Bridal Headband – If you’re looking for a way to accessorize your own or your bridesmaid’s attire, try your hand at this elegant flower headband. Instead of having to splurge on jewelry, you can design your own to match the rest of the elements of your wedding theme. This wearable wedding craft will save you money, match your dress, and give all of your bridesmaids a custom accessory that they’ll be touched to wear.

Fantasy Fabric Floral Bouquet – Eliminate the hassle of picking out expensive flowers that will only last you a few days, and design your own dream bouquet. With your choice of fabrics and flower designs, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind bouquet that’s also a durable keepsake capable of lasting long after your special day.

Elegant Paper Doily Wreath – No DIY wedding can be complete without a beautiful decoration for your reception. I personally enjoy this wreath because of how versatile it is; the clean color and airy material work with a wedding during any season. Who would think that you could make such an expensive-looking decorative piece with dollar store materials?

Chalkboard Message Plaque – Whether you’re soon-to-be-married or a guest at a wedding, this is one gift that someone special is sure to cherish. Commemorate a special message, song, or quote with this DIY chalkboard, or put a twist on guest books and hand out some chalk pens during the reception so your guests can honor the big day in a unique fashion.

All of the editors at AllFreeHolidayCrafts.com hope that you’ve been inspired to add some DIY to your next wedding event. If you liked what you saw, be sure to take a look at the rest of our wedding craft projects.
