Paint and Plant: Earth Day 2016 with the FaveCrafts Team

May 3, 2016 by FaveCrafts

earth day fcb

The first Earth Day in 1970 was coordinated to organize a nationwide teach-in to not only celebrate but empathize the need to protect our green spaces. Now, forty years later, people across the USA still celebrate this important day by taking time out of their day to plant trees, teach special lessons on environmental conservation, and more. Never one to skip a great opportunity to get creative, we here at Prime Publishing LLC (the team behind FaveCrafts.com!) decided to do our part by combining planting pretty flowers and crafting!

This year, we painted adorable itty bitty terra cotta pots in beautiful colors before planting charming petunias in our brand new creations. The pretty and purple Wave Pansies and other green cuties we picked up at Home Depot looked lovely sprouting out of our painted masterpieces. One editor, Jesse Carpendar said of the experience:

Decorating flower pots was a relaxing way to welcome spring into our office. It was nice to see everyone’s creative side emerge. It’s been even nicer to have cute pink flowers greeting me at my desk every morning since.

As you can see, we have an office of crafty editors with green thumbs. The petunias and pots are still blooming beautifully on plenty of desks. Spring is here and we reveled in the chance to bring some spring indoors.

It was wonderful to bring some of the beauty of the outdoors inside. The purple Wave pansies were gorgeous and immediately brightened up my desk!

Link Love: Projects for Your Patio

June 13, 2013 by FaveCrafts

It’s party time! The Fourth of July is just weeks away and summer is in full swing, which means it’s time to head outside. There are so many little touched you can add to your outdoor space, whether it’s big or small. Seek out inexpensive planters and party supplies at your local home goods store – you can always add paint, string, yarn and other touches to create a one-of-a-kind craft.

In general, the more colorful the craft project, the more it will stand out. Simply applying paint to a plain clay pot can add a touch of sunshine to an otherwise boring piece. A Floraled Flower Pot doesn’t require a lot of skills or expertise to make, but the results are sure to put a smile on your face.  Paper crafts can also perk up your space during the warm summer months. Patio Paper Lanterns make great decorations during a summer cookout. Best of all, they don’t take long to make, so you can create a bunch and place them all around your deck. Once you’ve decorated your space with a few items, it’s time to focus on comfort. Crochet a few Easy Patio Pillows to place on uncomfortable patio furniture. Guests will love relaxing with your DIY creations and might now want to leave (you’ve been warned)!

This weekend, throw a party outside and enjoy the summer sun. Even a small gathering will help create memories that last long after the season is over.

Home Decor Tuesday: A New Project

February 16, 2010 by FaveCrafts

When you hear the words home decor you probably immediately think of the inside of your home. This isn’t always the case. You can think of home decor as part of your outside home too, your lawn, your garden, your patio. With that said, we have a new project that can be used for inside your home or outside.

A painted vine pot is so fun to have around. All you need is plain terra cotta pot which you can find at any local crafting store and some paints. This is an easy craft project that you can have inside your home in the kitchen area or outside on your patio. It can hold some of your favorite flowers or plants.

I just love painted projects as there are so many opportunities to use your imagination and design skills. This particular pot uses some fun colors and designs. The vine design on the outside just really adds to the decor of it.

Some other terra cotta pots you can use for indoor or outdoor home decor:
