Handy Hostess Gifts You Can’t Wait to Dish Out

December 26, 2012 by FaveCrafts

Well, it’s that time of year again, and we all have so much to look forward to! The new year and Valentine’s Day are right around the corner. If you’re not busy preparing for your own fabulous festivities, why not help your hostesses out? It’s always a great idea to bring a little something along to a party; but wouldn’t it be nice to bring a handmade craft to share with your hostess this season? Here at AllFreeHolidayCrafts.Com, we say, “Of course it would!” But what could you bring? They’ll have plenty of leftover food – maybe even too much! A bottle of wine is always a sweet gift, but it lacks originality. So what does that leave us with? Fun handmade gifts, of course!Tis the Season Apron

Get your craft on and whip up a few festive gifts to show your gratitude, it is the season of giving after all. Don’t worry, I have some great ideas up my sleeve: handmade aprons,  centerpieces and scented soaps, would all make wonderful gifts. Maybe even a cute wine tote to spice up that classic bottled gift. Don’t you think, when you’re in charge of decorations, drinks, appetizers, dinner and dessert, you deserve some love? Well I sure do, so help a hostess out with some of these great hostess gift ideas. I say, “When you don’t see a reason to bring a dish, think outside the box and bring a hostess gift!”

Twig CenterpieceHelpful Hostess Gifts For Winter

When you’re stuck in the kitchen and responsible for an entire party, it helps to receive some thanks. These gifts aim to do just that, while helping to make the party even better. An example of great gifts to bring are these gorgeous handmade luminaries, these can light up the yard when dusk hits to add some romantic ambiance to the evening. When you you’re looking to brighten up the interior, instead try throwing together a centerpiece. You can never have to many decorations and this twig centerpiece is subtle, yet still makes a statement.

1 Hour Hostess Gift Votives

Even when you have the most prepared hostess, and the only way you can help out would be inserting yourself between her and one of the casseroles, a little something homemade can be a huge thank you. Try making a handmade votive, as a small gift of gratitude. Whip up some soothing bath salts, so she can relax once the evening comes to a close. Or bring both, a soothing bath by candle light is hard to resist!

What kind of hostess gift would be the most helpful to you?

New Year’s Eve Kids’ Crafts to Celebrate and Organize

December 18, 2012 by AllFreeKidsCrafts

Noisemaker Centerpiece3, 2, 1, have some fun and start dancing! It’s almost New Year’s Eve, and you’ve got a spectacular kid-friendly party to throw, or a party that your kids are coming with you to. Either way, you’ve got to keep them having a good time. Why would that make you dance? Because AllFreeKidsCrafts has it all sorted out for you. We have the perfect crafts and recipes to make December 31st go as smoothly as butter. Keep the kids’ tummies full with yummy snacks and tire them out with fun, exciting crafts and you may just get to sneak in your New Year’s kiss without a little nose in the way.

Making noise is a blast for the little ones, so encourage it for one night (only oneFringed Noisemakers night, for your sake) with noise-making crafts. This will keep the kids focused while you’re doing what you do, and then it will give them something to do when the clock strikes 12 instead of simply screaming. There are some creative ideas out on the internet. I really enjoy the Fringed Party Noisemakers.

Other Noisemaker Crafts:

  • Bubble Wrap Noisemaker
  • New Year’s Noisemaker
  • Recycled Noisemaker

Party HatWearing party hats is fun, but wearing party hats that you made is just awesome. The munchkins will get a kick out of their crafts serving as party decorations everywhere. Hands down my favorite New Year’s Eve kids’ craft is the New Year ball that Exclusive New Year's Ball Dropyou can “drop” in your own home. It’s really a simple craft that will create an unforgettable memory. How fun is it that you can have your own ball drop rather than just watching it on TV? It’s even better than wearing 3D glasses while watching the event in Time Square.

Other New Year’s Eve Kids’ Decorations:

  • Party Hats
  • Party Puff New Year’s Hats
  • New Year’s Confetti Fun
  • Noisemaker Centerpiece

Mouthwatering Midnight Oreo PopsIt is essential that you remember that diet resolutions don’t start until it’s officially January 1st, so make New Year’s edible crafts with your kiddos. All of your guests will be delighted by the clever, festive treats that you and your mini sous chefs create. The kids will just love serving their homemade snacks and showing off their artistic abilities. I’m a big fan of Edible Noisemakersthe midnight Oreo pops because they’re super simple to make, they’re absolutely delectable, and they’re the perfect size for party food.

Other Edible New Year Crafts:

  • Rice Krispie Party Hat
  • Edible Noisemakers
  • New Year Good Luck Pretzel

Bonus!

Some other great crafts for your kids or grandkids to make are organizational projects. They’re just as fun for the kids, and they help you out a ton. The kids will look forward to filling their crafts with items, which means that your cleaning will be done for you! Thank the craft goddesses for this one! The organizational castle is a great project that will please both of you. Crown the artist as your New Year’s resolution gets a big head start.

Auld Lang Singer Sewing Machines: Sew Organizers for the New Year

December 18, 2011 by AllFreeSewing

Every single year, I do the same thing. I make a New Year’s resolution to organize my life, and then I promptly fail to carry out my goal. Sometimes, I’ll begin cleaning up and tidying everything, but I tend to get so busy and distracted with other things that I usually just shove everything in a closet and jam the door closed. Most of the time, I hardly even know where to begin.

Fortunately, I came across a ton of great organizer projects on AllFreeSewing.com! Take a look at 18 Craft Organizers: Sewing Organizer Patterns for the New Year, and you’ll see what I mean. This collection of sewing organizer projects are quick and easy ways for me to sort everything into a logical place.

The Door Organizer will ensure that I never leave home without my keys or phone again, and the Mail Organizer Tutorial will reduce that messy pile of papers on my mantel.

Since I tend to migrate between several different cities, the travel organizers are perfect for me. The Jewelry Roll Tutorial will allow me to bring all of my favorite necklaces, earrings and bracelets without the whole lot turning into a tangled mess. Plus, with the Cool Car Caddy that straps onto the back of my seat, I might actually unearth the floorboard of my car one of these days.

Granted, I’m a bit obsessed with organizational supplies. The thought that I might be able to see my bedroom floor and rediscover the surfaces of my end tables makes me feel a little giddy. But really, the whole collection is fantastic. Check out these sewing organizer patterns in 18 Craft Organizers: Sewing Organizer Patterns for the New Year on AllFreeSewing.com and live up to the promise of New Year’s resolutions for 2012!

How To: Holiday Crafts for After Christmas

December 23, 2009 by FaveCrafts

When the Christmas rush comes to a close, it’ll be prime to time to focus on non-Christmas related crafts. Yes, crafting continues at FaveCrafts even after Christmas! Now is the time to think about wintery holiday crafts and New Year’s themes.

Let’s start with New Year’s crafts. Start thinking about what you’ll wear on New Year’s Eve this year. How will you embellish your outfit? Are you wearing something in a basic black? How can you liven it up. Try a DIY trick like fabric flowers to embellish a shirt, dress or even a purse. Follow this tutorial to create your own fabric flowers in four easy steps.

fabric-flowers-collage

Another fun craft for New Year’s is a simple family photo album. Decorate the album to be relevant to your family, whether you eat pizza and watch movies every New Year’s, or sit down to a nice traditional ethnic dinner of some kind. Create a tradition of taking your family members’ photos on New Year’s Day and documenting them in the photo album. For added fun, ask a general question and have each person write a response. For example, “If you were ruler of the world, what would be your first course of action?” The family will love to look back on years past and see how you’ve changed both physically and intellectually!

My favorite winter crafts are snowflakes. They can be elegant and beautiful, as well as playful. There are snowflake patterns for kids to make, and complicated patterns for the adults. The easiest snowflake craft you can do with your kids is the age-old paper snowflake craft. Do you remember taking sheets of paper when you were little, folding them into eighths and making random cuts into the paper – like circles, hearts and lines. It always amazed me when I unfolded the beautiful lacey snowflake pattern from the paper.

A fresh take on this craft follows a similar guideline, but uses different materials to create an even more elegant paper snowflake. Make this one with your kids, or just do it yourself so you can decorate the house like a winter wonderland.

Materials:

  • Round paper doilies
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • String

Steps:

  1. Fold one round paper doily in half. Then fold it in half again. And again. If you can get another fold out of it, fold it again.
  2. Begin making cuts in the “pie piece” doily – circles, hearts, squares, and slits.
  3. At the top, where the “pie piece” looks like a fan, cut out a design if you wish.
  4. Open the doily and see the snowflake pattern you’ve made.
  5. Pull a string through one of the holes in the snowflake and tape it to the window or hang it from the Christmas tree.

Just because Christmas crafting is coming to an end – you can still have fun creating festive crafts for upcoming holidays and seasons. Enjoy winter crafting this year =) Click here for more Winter Crafts.
