FaveCrafts 365 Cleaning Sea Shells

As a Floridian and nature lover I enjoy shelling (collecting sea shells along the shore). The first rule of shelling is that you can’t take any live shells. You should always check the shell you pick up because even if the original animal isn’t in the shell those silly, sassy little hermit crabs may have moved in and they can’t live without the using a sea shell as their home.

Watch this video to learn the best way to clean sea shells and also a tip on how to add a little shine to your shells. Do you enjoy collecting sea shells? Do you craft with sea shells? We’d love to know!

In this week’s installation of New Pattern Monday, we’re featuring the crafts of Mary Lyon who contributed three lovely and easy to make Christmas crafts and a cute Thanksgiving decor project.

Mary is known to her friends as “The Crafty Mom,” and is a regular columnist for L.A. Parent magazine. She was seen regularly as the host of DIY Crafts on the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Cable Network. She has also been s a frequent guest on HGTV’s “Smart Solutions” and “The Carol Duvall Show.” Some of the clever crafts that she has demonstrated on these shows include making miniature dollhouse furniture, snow globes, wire jewelry, pop-up cards and much more.

You’ll see she has made great use of everyday items you can find in your home and on your own front lawn, implementing pine cones and acorns into several of her crafts. Go on a nature walk with your kids, collect some rustic treasures, then follow Mary’s tutorials for making beautiful holiday decorations with your everyday things.
