April 13, 2013 by AllFreeHolidayCrafts 2 Comments

Queen Bee Paper Crafts for Mother's DayQueen Bee Paper Crafts for Mother's DayYou read correctly; Mother’s Day Tea. As in, Mother’s Day is closer than you think (it always is). This year, don’t go over tons of do-it-yourself projects trying to figure out which you haven’t made for mom yet. What she’ll really love is spending quality time with loved ones like you. AllFreeHolidayCrafts has got you covered as far as throwing a tea party for the woman who started it all: mom. She deserves this Queen Bee Mother’s Day Tea and will appreciate it more than you know. These instructions on how to throw a tea party for mom are just another way to say, “I love  you; thanks for putting up with me.”

Paper Crafting a Tea Party

Queen Bee Paper Crafts for Mother's Day

Queen Bee Paper Crafts for Mother's DayYou’ll be as busy as a bee when you make all of the paper crafts from these Queen Bee Paper Crafts for Mother’s Day. These instructions walk you through every step to hosting a lovely tea party for mom. Every craft, from card holders to hanging decor, is bee-autiful. You’ll feel like you’re in a buzzing bee colony by the time all of your homemade muffin cups and honeycomb cut-outs are made. The only difference is you won’t be terrified or stung – we hope.

Queen Bee Paper Crafts for Mother's DayOne of the most charming aspects of these Mother’s Day paper crafts is that each one is merely a detail in the collective tea party but is vital to its success. Take the drinking straw embellishment, for example. This is simply a teeny-tiny paper bee on a straw. Despite its small size it adds tons to the overall effect of the party. Making paper bees and honeycombs is incredibly fun, and having them strung about the table and walls only adds to the enchantment of this Mother’s Day tea party. Even if you’re not a regular crafter, these paper crafts are described so well in the instructions that you’ll be able to whip them up easily.

Queen Bee Paper Crafts for Mother's DayThis entire tea party package is irresistible. The final set-up may look complicated, but putting this tea party together is very doable. Whether you’re throwing this tea party for your mom, mother-in-law, grandmother or mother-figure in your life, she’ll love it. Take some time out of your day and have fun crafting these beautiful decorations in honor of mom.Queen Bee Paper Crafts for Mother's Day

6 Crafty Ways to Say “I Love You”

February 10, 2012 by AllFreeHolidayCrafts Leave a Comment

For us crafty gals, sometimes the best way to express our feelings is through our work.  I know that whenever I want to show someone how I feel, I always wind up making them something.  Whether it’s a scrapbook for my mom’s birthday, a sewn necktie for Father’s Day or just a special handmade card for a friend’s birthday, handmade “labors of love” are always my go-to gifts.

So, with Valentine’s Day just a few short days away, I thought I’d share some of my favorite crafty ways to say “I love you” to that special someone.  And don’t worry if you don’t have enough time to finish these before February 14th. The great thing about all of these projects is they’ll be just as meaningful any time of year.  You can make these for birthdays, anniversaries and other milestones, or even better… as a “just because” present.  Aren’t those the best kind of gift?!

Handmade Cards – One of the easiest ways to say “I love you” is with a card you’ve made yourself!  It doesn’t have to look super professional; it just has to come from the heart!  If you’re looking for inspiration, this “Love You” note card and envelope is one of my favorites, but I also love this Charming Heart Card and the Treasured Love card.

Decorative Picture Frames – If you’re not the craftiest person, picture frames are a great project for you to tackle. You can give yours a personal touch and include a special photo of one of your favorite memories!  These Fancy Frames are so elegant looking, and this Lovely Lace Frame would be perfect for a girly girl.

Flowers from Yarn – Who doesn’t love receiving flowers?  The only thing I don’t like about it is mine tend to die pretty quickly, and nothing’s sadder than a wilting rose. So, why not make that special someone a flower or bouquet that will last forever!  This knitted Peruvia rose is beautiful, and so is this crocheted Always Blooming Bouquet.

Gifts with Photos – Turn your favorite picture of you and your loved one into a keepsake they can display in their home!  I love this personalized photo clock and also these reversible family photo placemats (though it might be sort of strange to eat your dinner on top of your cousin’s face, it’s still super cute as a kitchen decoration!).  You can also preserve special memories in the form of a cute accessory with this Glass Photo Pendant.  Speaking of jewelry…

Jewelry – If there’s a lady in your life who you want to shower with gifts of love, there’s no better present than handmade jewelry!  Make her this “Live, Laugh, Love” charm bracelet and she’ll make it part of her everyday wardrobe; I guarantee it!  I also love the idea of this hidden message locket!

Sweets – The way to just about anyone’s heart is through their stomach, or at least that’s the way the saying goes. So, if you really want to show your love, make them a sweet treat!  Chocolate is almost universally loved, so why not make them these Love Struck Chocolates?  Or even better, how about this Amazing and Edible Chocolate Body Scrub?! If you want to go the candy route, you could always whip up a batch of homemade Conversation Candy Hearts.  And they might not be edible, but these chocolate-inspired crochet patterns would definitely be a hit with anyone who has even the tiniest bit of a sweet tooth!  Check out the Amigurumi Chocolate Fountain, the Heart Shaped Box of Chocolates and the Hot Chocolate Amigurumi!

Have you ever made someone a homemade gift?  What did you make?

Guest Post: Printable Seed Packets

May 11, 2011 by FaveCrafts 1 Comment

This guest post was written by Maria Merlino.

Hello Scrapbook Friends! May I introduce myself?  My name is Maria Merlino and I’ve been asked to do a guest blog entry on one of my projects, the printable seed packets. I want to take you through the step-by-steps and give you my tips and tricks to make this an enjoyable project.

In addition to the practical seed saving work they do, these little envelopes are perfect for your Nature Walk scrapbook page, as they can hold any little collection of seeds, petals or leaves (I don’t recommend bugs —squished or otherwise!) that you may gather. The images print two to a page, so they are a good size after folding. I’ve given you an eclectic variety of images from which to select.  To get started with the garden seed envelopes, you will need copy paper, an ink jet printer, scissors, and a glue stick. I also use an old, recycled catalogue for my disposable gluing surface. When the page gets too glue-y, turn to a fresh page.

To grab and size the image, right click directly onto the image. A small popup will give you choices. Click Copy. This will save the image to your clipboard. A note on the Clipboard— this is an invisible device that puts an image into your computer for later use.   Open a blank document (I use Microsoft Office Word, but whatever you use for a blank document is fine). Now go to the Paste icon and click it. The image should be on the document. Fiddle with the size until it is a full page. Now you are ready to print.

For the seed packets, I set my printer preferences to plain paper and the Draft mode. If you print with Best or Photo or even the Text mode, too much ink is used and wasted! The images will print quickly and be somewhat faded but are still very viewable. I find that the less ink printing yields a more stable piece of paper and is less apt to tear or smear the printer ink . You can embellish with permanent markers later. Of course you can make one inky copy and have it printed with a laser at the copy shop. But that’s no fun! Homemade is best! I also used pastel paper for the black and white images for a different look.

After you’ve printed, use the scissors to carefully cut out the packet. Remember to keep the score lines intact. Fold where indicated, starting from the bottom, then to the left side and then a big fold-over from the left.  Open up a page in your recycled catalogue, put your envelope face down, and carefully glue, remembering to keep the glue lines on the fold and not in the center of the paper. You will glue it shut if you do this. First add a tiny spot of glue to the inside corner of the envelope to help keep the bottom fold in place. Then run a line of glue along the side and bottom folds. Take the left half and fold it so that the back is now facing you. Make any little adjustments to square up the piece and use a flattener, like an old credit card, bone folder or lid to the glue stick, to set the creases. Don’t do anything to the top flap. Hooray! You have just completed one seed packet.

Disregard the previous advice if you plan on using the Nature Walk packets to put into a scrapbook; use the correct archival papers and inks appropriate for your album.

As part of the free downloads I created, there is a seed packet image with a Mother Banner. I like to use these to fill with flower seed for Mother’s Day or my mom’s birthday. If your mom is in a Heavenly Embrace, these are nice keepsakes for your siblings.

I have a photo tutorial that includes the free downloads here.

Here are the bonus Nature Walk Envelopes.

I hope everyone enjoyed reading and learning from my first blog post because I had a blast writing it for you! Please visit me on my Yahoo page for more free goodies.

Guest Post: Fingerprint Art for Mother’s Day

May 7, 2011 by FaveCrafts Leave a Comment

This guest post was written by Iris for My Baby Clothes Boutique.

I have to admit, I am one of those sentimental moms who saves every little item that her child makes for her or used as a baby. It is so hard for me to throw away things that I might want to look back on when my son or daughter grows up. For example, I don’t want to get rid of some of my son’s baby toys, like the first plush football I used to teach him to catch when he was an infant and couldn’t even roll over. What if he becomes a pro football player and I want to pull out that first football he played with? Or what about the first drawing he scribbled for me as a toddler–what if he becomes a famous painter and I want to look at his first art piece? And I can’t get rid of his first pair of swimming goggles; some say he could be the next Michael Phelps! I can go on and on, but as the years go by and we collect more things, sometimes I have to just part with certain items that we don’t have room to store (like drawers full of my son’s craft projects from preschool). Artwork takes over our refrigerator and shelves fill up with projects that eventually fall apart. Thankfully my husband is very tidy and he is very good at helping me decide which items we should keep and which items I unfortunately have to part with.

Well, Mother’s Day is right around the corner and my husband always has a difficult time deciding what kind of gift to give me. He always gives me a gift card from my favorite store (yes, I absolutely love gift cards. I know some people don’t think gift cards are personal enough, but for a stay-at-home mom like me who is very budget-oriented, I am absolutely thrilled when I receive a gift card knowing that I don’t have to feel guilty spending the gift card on myself!). But since he also knows how sentimental I am, he also adds a homemade project to go alongside the gift card that always makes me so proud. This part of the gift is the part that is difficult for him. Because he knows I keep all of our children’s special projects, he doesn’t want to add another item to throw in the “craft drawer”. So last year, he finally came up with a gift that was made by our 4-year-old son, but also looked modern enough to match the style of our home and would stay on the shelf for display – forever! Yes, he was not going to make me throw this one away!

It was a simple glass flower vase, decorated with beautiful painted flower petals all around the vase. The best part is the fact that each of these beautiful flower petals were made by our son’s precious fingerprints. Our one-year-old unfortunately could not participate since she was not good enough to listen to Daddy’s instructions, although I know there is one little fingerprint on the vase that belongs to her. All it took was one glass vase and different colored enamel paints to create this project, and of course, very special fingers. You can use all kinds of glass to create a gift like this. When my son’s preschool teacher came over for a play date and she saw the vase, it gave her an idea for the school art festival they were participating in. They used wine glasses instead of a vase and it made such a beautiful display for the art festival. You can use jars, bottles, the possibilities are endless, but one thing I know for sure, this is a gift that would make any mother proud and would gladly be displayed on a shelf for a lifetime.

Many people who visit our house see my special vase and think that the artwork on the vase is professionally painted, and they are surprised to find out that it was my 4-year-old son who created it. See, I told you that my son could be a famous painter!

Iris is a very crafty mom who likes to work on a budget. Her ideas are shared through her blog as well as with My Baby Clothes Boutique. Dress your babies in the best baby clothes, cutest tutus and most adorable baby headbands this summer!
