10 Cutest Monogram Ideas

August 26, 2015 by FaveCrafts

Newly Wed PlaqueIf you’re in love with the Lily Pulitzer, but don’t want to spend the money on cute monogrammed stuff, then you need to try these DIY monogram ideas. You can cheaply decorate your home with hand-painted monograms in your initials. The great thing about monogrammed items is that there is no question of who’s stuff it is. I live in a house with two other sisters and my mom. My sisters and I are about the same size, so my clothes mysteriously go missing from time to time. However, I noticed that the ones with my initials on it or my sorority letters are the items that get left behind. That’s why monogrammed stuff is becoming essential: a personalized touch makes greedy hands go away.

10 Cutest Monogram Ideas

Monogrammed House NumberI’ve been rooming with the same girl since my freshman year, so all ideas of “personal space” have gone out the door. Though starting out, we kept everything separate. We were the lucky ones who didn’t end up hating each other and didn’t have too many problems. Others, however, didn’t have as much luck. Labeling everything and getting stuff organized has become such a huge trend. Especially the DIY storage bins that can be used for literally everything. Monogramming initials has become such a cute way to personalize clothing and crafts.

Here are some direct quotes from our editors on their thoughts about monogramming:

“I love monogramming because it allows me to put a special touch on even the most generic accessories.”Monogrammed Stool

“Monogramming is a way to personalize gifts for friends and family in a way that regular store-bought, generic gifts don’t.”

“My name is incredible and I want to show it off, but really though it’s a personal touch on any accessory. Monogram necklaces are a great gift, tote bags, and travel.”

I can’t wait to get started on the Newly Wed Plaque. My sister just got married, and I want to use a variation of it. The fun part about my new brother-in-law and my sister? They have the same initials. Both start with “L,” middle “E,” and obviously the same last name. The best thing about these easy crafts are that they can be applied and followed. You can put them on practically anything. Take the technique of the Paper and Monogrammed Stool and use it for a DIY kid’s table or a wooden plaque. The idea of monogramming is simple and not too different, but the techniques of applying and creating it vary from crafter to crafter.

Make it Personal: Monogrammed Gifts for Family and Friends

There’s something charming about monograms. Personalization is practical and comforting to people, whether they be newlyweds, homeowners, or little girls and boys. It’s fun to see your name or initials on items you use daily, like a favorite coffee mug or pillow case. Plus, it’s so easy to keep track of monogrammed accessories. At AllFreeChristmasCrafts, we’re always looking for great gift ideas for the loved ones on your list. We have a nice collection of monogram crafts on our site, but there are tons of ideas out there. Check out a few of our favorites.

DIY Wedding Gifts

Personalized Casserole DishSpring and summer are the most popular seasons for weddings, and often those invitations come with a hefty price tag. If the items on the registry are out of your price range, or if you find yourself scrambling for gift ideas, consider making a monogrammed gift for the happy couple. You can tastefully display the first letter of the couple’s surname on ceramics, such as these Personalized Mugs and Dishes. For a quirky and useful present, etch the couple’s last name on the bottom of a casserole dish, and there will never be confusion over which dish belongs to whom at family dinners.

If you happen to be the bride-to-be, you can put together personalized treats for your bridesmaids or wedding guests. These Chalkboard Wine Glass Bottoms will delight your bridesmaids, plus they will give you an excuse to stop by for a glass of something sweet when you return from your honeymoon.

And what about those lovely folks who came to help you celebrate? Fill these Monogrammed Treat Containers with mints, chocolates, and other tiny treats for your guests. Family and friends will appreciate these favors, which double as mementos, long after the candy is gone.

Monogram Gifts for Women Who Wander

Personalized Travel MugThese traveler-friendly crafts are great for people who are always on the go. For instance, most travelers rely on caffeine to keep them energized, which is where this Personalized Travel Mug comes in. It’s reusable, easy to clean, and has your name written all over it–literally! Another fabulous and inexpensive gift is this Personalized Lip Balm. Cute and convenient, you can wear your lip balm around your neck when you make this fun craft. It’s especially great for scatterbrained people like yours truly. You can also make yourself or a loved one a personalized gift idea like this Monogram Sachet. Stow this darling craft in your suitcase so that every time you open it you’ll catch a lovely scent. If you’re traveling with a large group and storage space is limited, you can’t beat this Travel Pillow Case. The monogram will prevent any packing or unpacking mix-ups. Even if you can’t sleep in your own bed, your head will feel at home.

Mad for Monograms

March 17, 2014 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts

When I was little my mother would put my initials in just about everything. This prevented the inevitable “Is this mine?” confusion that happens when every kid has the same lunch box, jacket, mittens, etc. While monogramming has been around forever, I’ve noticed in the past few weeks that it’s truly been trending.

Everywhere I turn there seems to be another tutorial on how to proudly display your initials, with everything from monogrammed jewelry (something that seems to be particularly popular at the moment), to mugs and homemade Christmas ornaments.  My Pinterest has been flooded with monogrammed coasters, pillows, bags, and necklaces. Even my Etsy newsletters have been filled with monogrammed home decor and jewelry.

Mad-for-Monograms

With school graduations coming up, and wedding and baby shower season kicking into high gear (I like to call this time of year “Milestone Season”), I thought it might be fun to share some fun ways to make something personal for the special people in your life. In my opinion there’s truly nothing better than receiving a homemade gift. Even if it’s not perfectly crafted, it holds so much more meaning knowing that the person spent time creating something so thoughtful. After all, it’s the thought that counts!

Monogramming goes even one step farther, making it personal for them as well! Just think how perfect a monogrammed pillow or wall decoration would be for your graduate, or some monogrammed glasses or coasters would be for a pair of newlyweds. Let’s go mad for monograms with the help of these wonderful tutorials!

Link Love: Making It Personal

May 30, 2013 by FaveCrafts

I’ll admit it – I’m a sucker for a single letter – J (for Julia, of course). When I see a J accent or decoration, I have to have it. In my lifetime, I’ve had J necklaces, J purses and even J sweaters. There’s something so special about a monogram, big or small. Whether the piece is mass-produced or one-of-a-kind, that personal touch makes it feel extra special. Plus, monogram gifts are always a great option when showing someone you care. In fact, I just gave a friend an S mug for her birthday!

No matter the occasion, you can’t go wrong with a monogram craft. In fact, monograms can also help you personalize a shared space like a dorm room. Young people will love creating Elegant Wood Wall Monograms to hang up and display. Spell out a name or hang up a single letter – this simple craft is extremely versatile. If you’re looking for a practical yet fun sewing pattern that can be used over and over again. consider creating a Felt Monogrammed Glasses Case. You’ll never swipe someone’s spectacles when you keep a pair in a personalized case. Plus, the design is simple, so you don’t have to be an expert to make your own version. Looking for a pretty wedding gift for a soon-to-be-bride? Cross stitch your own version of an elegant Monogrammed Sachet. Fill the sachet with a relaxing scent like lavender to help the bride stay calm on the big day.

Monograms make even the more boring item so much more personal and important. Who knew a single letter could mean so much? Sew, stitch or paint a single letter and transform your next craft into a meaningful work of art.

Guest Project: Framed Monogram from Abby Welker

January 22, 2009 by FaveCrafts

Abby Welker of A Featured Nest has put together a beautiful guest project for this Framed Monogram. This is a simple sewing project using fabric and felt. The bird embellishment is fantastic. I can imagine making one for every member of the family and hanging them together on a wall.
