10 Jar Gifts to Get You Through the Holidays

November 9, 2016 by FaveCrafts

Whenever the holidays come around, I sometimes feel a sense of dread washing over me when I think about the many Christmas gifts I’ll need to get. People with big families know what I’m talking about. The thought of buying so many gifts can be slightly unnerving. That’s why I’m a big proponent of jar gifts. Gifts in a jar are the best strategy when you want to give something creative and special to everyone in your family (extended family included). Jar gifts are beautiful, easy to make, and very inexpensive. You can dress up each jar pretty easily, too. Add a ribbon here. Glue on some holly there. When you’re deep into decorating Christmas jar gifts, the task becomes mechanical at some point, and you can crank out a whole crate full of jar gifts in no time. I often turn on a favorite holiday movie in the background, too.

If I’m being honest, the hardest and most time-consuming part in coming up with the perfect jar gift is the idea. Great homemade gifts require thinking, and as Christmas gets closer and closer, time to think becomes less and less available. We all have so much to do! Whether we’re baking cookies or putting up Christmas decorations, there is never a dull moment in holiday preparation. This is why I LOVE lists. Did I make Christmas Cookie Gifts in a Jar last year? If so, then I’ll just gladly mosey on down to another item on the list. Making a list is quick. It’s convenient, and it lets you jump right in and tackle all of those gifts you still need to make.

13 Mason Jar Crafts To Make Now (And Later)

December 11, 2014 by FaveCrafts

Mason jars are my absolute favorite craft supply. They aren’t intimidating, they don’t cost much and they’re infinitely adaptable – what’s not to like? Since Christmas is just around the corner and I haven’t started shopping for gifts yet, I’m feeling a twinge of last-minute anxiety. Since I don’t have a ton of time to look for gifts, I’m considering creating a few of these Mason jar crafts and giving them to my friends. My favorite idea is decorating the outside of a Mason jar and filling it with candy. I must say, though, I love unexpected Mason jar crafts, like vases.

Before you head to the mall or a fancy boutique, consider making one of these Mason jar crafts. If you’ve already completed your holiday shopping, save this list for another day. You never know when you’ll need a quick and easy gift or fun decorative craft, and these projects definitely fit the bill.

Mason Jar Christmas Crafts

Snowman Belly Jars – Simply draw a belly on these jars to create headless snowman. While this may seem a little morbid, it’s actually super cute. Use fun colors that really stick out and make each jar a little different. Fill them with cotton balls and you have a non-melting Santa for all season.

Easy Rustic Mason Jar Decorations – With this Mason jar craft tutorial, you get two projects for the price of one. The contrasting colors make these a true standout. Group a bunch of these jars together and place them on a mantel or kitchen table.  These will look great on a table during Christmas brunch.

Winter Wonderland Candle Jars – How cool is this frosty Mason jar? You don’t need actual snow to create this pretty decorative piece, so if you’re in the mood for a winter treat in six months, this is the perfect project. The simple, rustic look evokes a country feel.

Frosted Luminaries – Evoke the look of frosted glass for this super simple Mason jar craft project. Line your Mason jar on a mantel and fill them with tea lights. The colors will make your room sparkle and glow.

Mason Jar Craft Ideas

Simple Stained Mason Jars – It doesn’t matter what you use your jars for as long as they look good. That’s the philosophy behind this kid-friendly craft project. You won’t believe how easy it is to change the look of these Mason jars.

Altered Art Mason Jars – Store spices, treats and more inside these Mason jars. Create your own labels and organize all of your essentials – it’s easier than you think.

Pretty Pink Mason Jar Cups – If you’re planning a baby shower or birthday party, you’ll want to make this project. This is not only a great way to serve food or drinks, but also a fabulous party favor idea.

Affordable Jar Party Lanterns -Cover jars in paint, wait for it to dry and add a stripe with Mod Podge. That’s all you have to do if you want to complete this craft project. Kids will love pitching in and painting the jars, so be sure to have them help out.

3D Memory Jars – Capture your favorite moments with this delightful project. This is a great gift or favor idea, so keep it in mind for your next celebration.

Mason Jar Gift Ideas

Gold Tipped Mason Jar Vases – Combine a Mason jar and candle stick to create your own vases. Paint helps turn these jars into fancy home decor items. Place these in the center of a table for a class look.

Mason Jar Vase – Use a candlestick or a candlestick to add height to your vase and include some trim and embellishments to make each piece unique. Once you’ve completed these two steps, you’ll be well on your way to creating a memorable Mason jar.

Colorful Bead Jar – Store all of your beads in these handy jars. This is a great way to organize supplies and clean up your craft room. If you don’t have a ton of beads, you can opt for a baby food jar rather than a Mason jar.

Craft Room in a Jar – Who wouldn’t want to carry their craft room with them wherever they go? Throw your favorite supplies in a jar and give it as a gift. You can also use this project to clean up your space and get organized.

Link Love: Holiday Gifts in a Jar

November 14, 2013 by FaveCrafts

Believe it or not, it’s time to start preparing for the holidays. It’s almost time to string up those Christmas lights and decorate the tree, all while sipping on hot apple cider and eating delicious Christmas cookies. It’s also time to start brainstorming ideas for Christmas gifts. Every year, I end up stressed out about what to buy my friends and family members for the holidays. Of course, I want my gift to be completely unique and unexpected. That said, I also want the gift to resonate with the recipient (and not end up in a drawer or corner). This year, I plan to recycle old mason and baby food jars and fill them with everything from food to DIY body scrub.

Gifts in a jar are a quick, easy and inexpensive Christmas idea for anyone that loves to craft. The holiday season can wreak havoc on your skin (hello wind and sub-zero temperatures!) and cause redness and irritation. Hand and body scrubs are a luxurious option that anyone can appreciate and best of all, you can make your own versions at home! Gardener’s Hand Scrub smells good and looks even better. Another fun DIY scrub is the Amazing and Edible Chocolate Body Scrub. Talk about delicious – you’ll want to save a generous amount for yourself after taking one whiff. Looking for edible options? Nothing says winter like hot chocolate, so give someone the yummiest gift of all with a Hot Cocoa Jar.

This year, skip the fancy gift wrap and give a gift in a jar. Whether you choose to include edible ingredients or a luxurious scrub, your thoughtfulness and creativity is sure to get noticed.

DIY Christmas Gifts

Choosing mason jars as gift containers is one of the best ways to use these versatile containers during the Christmas season. You can focus on decorating the jar itself using examples like a Decorated Mason Jar Teacher Idea or this Gorgeous Poinsettia Christmas Jar, and then fill the jar with candy or chocolates. You can also pay special attention to the contents of the jar and create a thoughtful, easy gift like a “We Love You” Jar that is filled with little slips of paper describing the reasons you care about the person you are giving the gift to. Either way, decorated DIY mason jars make simple, but classy gifts.

Mason Jar Lid Ornaments

Homemade Christmas Ornament Crafts

While many mason jar crafts make great gifts, you can also use these jars to add to your collection of homemade holiday decorations. Make ornaments out of the jars themselves like this Mason Jar Greenery Ornament, and with just a couple leafy additions, you’ll have some beautiful pieces to add to your tree. Remember, you can also use the mason jar lids in your crafting. Check out these cute Mason Jar Lid Ornaments for an adorable way to incorporate all parts of the mason jar into your crafting.

Glittery Santa's Belly Jar

Aside from ornaments, mason jars can be used in many other parts of your collection of holiday decorations. You can go the sensible route and choose a practical craft  like Mason Jar Snow Globe Soap Dispensers. A more classic way to use mason jars is to make them into candle holders or luminaries. Use mod podge to make beautiful winter mantel decor, like Snowflake Jar Votive Holders, or fun, festive holiday clear jars, like Junkmail Snowflake Luminaries. Need more sparkle? Mason Jar Lighting with Angie Holden

August 17, 2013 by AllFreeHolidayCrafts

My name is Angie and I love jars. Okay, I may be addicted to jars. Okay I might just need a support group. So addicted I even started a blog dedicated to them called Crafts with Jars.  My favorite jar crafts are those that use jars in an unexpected manner. Maybe you think of jars as being for storage or holding candles. But some people think way outside the box and really take jars to an entirely new level.

When you are sprucing up your home this fall, try thinking of jars in a whole new light. Yes light. Lights for your home using jars? Here are some of my favorite ways you can use jars as lighting for your home, you can always find more at my blog!

First up is a Mason Jar Chandelier from Marty’s Musings. What a great way to add some character to any old chandelier in your home.

Ball Jar Pendant Light

Ball Jar Pendant Light

Don’t want an entire chandelier of jars? Let The DIY Village show you how to make a mason jar into a pendant light.  Do you all know that the best part of a mason jar is that it is basically the exact size needed for lighting projects like these?  That makes DIY projects like these super simple to do.

Some of my personal favorite jar lights just use the existing fixtures and add jars to those. You would be surprised how many light fixtures can use jars instead of globes. The Stories of A to Z added jars with numbers to her light fixtures.  The addition of the numbers gives the jars a modern graphic feel.Would you use numbers?  Maybe letters?

You can also add blue mason jars to an existing pendant light like Tirzah Photography.  I must say that my favorite jar lighting projects use the blue mason jars rather then the clear.  I love that classic blue vintage tint that these Blue Mason jar Pendant Lights have.  Plus Ball is making these blue jars again as a heritage collection so you don’t even have to scour your thrift store to find them anymore.

Many thanks to FaveCrafts and AllFreeHolidayCrafts for allowing me to guest post. Does this post just get you hungry for even more mason jar craft ideas? Please come on over and subscribe to Crafts with Jars for jar craft inspiration!
