Beginner’s Macrame Tutorial

May 5, 2012 by FaveCrafts

Remember the days of sitting outside with your best friends, making beautiful knotted friendship bracelets with your mom’s embroidery thread?  Those were some of my favorite childhood memories…

So it’s no surprise that I was so excited to see that macrame and friendship bracelets have begun to resurface.  I was even more excited when our Facebook fans requested to get a macrame tutorial in our weekly newsletter!  In case you missed it, here’s everything you need to learn to macrame friendship bracelets…from the basic materials to some beginner projects to help you get started.

Beginner’s Macrame Tutorial

Must Have Materials:

  • Embroidery Thread–This is the best way to make durable and colorful friendship bracelets.  You can find embroidery thread in tons of colors…there’s even some multi-colored string out there!
  • Ruler–This will help you make sure that your bracelet fits around your wrist and, more importantly, insures that you have enough string to get the job done!
  • Clipboard–Having a clipboard on hand makes creating these bracelets much easier…since it holds it down for you as you work.  If you don’t have a clipboard, you can place your knotted string under something heavy to prevent movement, or simply pin it to your jeans like I used to do!
  • Beads–These are optional additions…but they do make your bracelet that much more fun!

Zoey Yarn by Bernat – New Yarn On The Market

November 8, 2011 by TheCrochetCrowd

Michael Sellick is showing off his new yarn he got that is made by Bernat

Bernat has just launched this new yarn line. It’s called Zoey

Bernat has released Zoey Yarn Line. My admiration to the designers of Bernat for pushing limits and pushing yarns out of the perception that the fibre arts is an “Old Lady” hobby. The new yarn line is big, bold and beautiful.

Zoey is a huge version of Pom Pom yarn, manufactured in the latest trending colours which turns this complete yarn line into a modern trend winner. The color you see posted here is not only what you see, there’s some minimal gold glitter yarn with the pom poms which gives this a shimmering look. Not only will your friends think you are a super star with the shimmering effects, but the yarn will also bring attention because of the light reflecting on the gold shimmering yarn.

Bernat has recently launched a new website that is featuring written tutorials and video tutorials for this new yarn line. Check out the KnitorKnot Website by Bernat.

With this product you can knit, crochet, macrame and even tie knots. Even some nautical knots could be interesting with this particular design.

Look for this yarn online at shop.bernat.com or even at a retailer near you. Be sure you check out all the projects by Bernat on our site!

Remember Macrame?

August 10, 2009 by FaveCrafts

Do you remember making macrame bracelets at summer camp? Perhaps your counselors called them friendship bracelets instead? Macrame is the technique of knotting hemp or other cord, often with colorful beads to create a bracelet, necklace or anklet. At my summer camp, we made macrame bracelets with letter beads for our names. Macrame can be quite elegant too, meaning adults can practice the craft to create lovely jewelry items. If you are not sure how to macrame, check out the Macrame Tutorial first.

The image below is a Macrame Meteor Bracelet. The project looks so much fun and you can create a matching ring with the same technique. Use your favorite cord color and bead colors to create just the right bracelet for you.
