Warm Winter Accessories: 10 Knit and Crochet Jewelry Patterns

January 26, 2012 by AllFreeJewelryMaking

In these cold winter months, dressing to impress can be a struggle–it’s not easy accessorizing around scarves and ski masks. This is about the time most of us begin fantasizing about warm weather, when we’ll be able to shed some layers and show off our accessories again. But hey, why wait for spring? There’s no reason we can’t look cute while keeping warm! For those of us who still want to make a fashion statement in the dead of winter, we’ve gathered some winter-wearable crochet and knit jewelry patterns to keep your wardrobe looking fresh in these chilly, drab months. Crocheting and knitting aren’t just for scarves and mittens anymore!

Scarf Substitutes: Knit and Crochet Necklaces

Scarves are a staple winter accessory because they’re both fashionable and functional. But they can also be a bit bulky, and once I’m inside and out of the near-Arctic conditions, I don’t always want to feel so bundled up. That’s why crochet and knit necklaces make a great alternative, like this Crochet Chain Necklace. No one wants to feel cold metal against their skin in February. This adorable crochet necklace pattern has the look of chunky chain links, but the warmth of a scarf!

Or if knitting is your craft of choice, this Knit Cable Braided Necklace is another great option. This has the stitched look of a scarf but minus all the bulk, so you still get to show off your neck and collar bone.

Here are some other cute and cozy necklace patterns that are totally season appropriate:

  • Mesh Crochet Necklace – This unique crochet necklace pattern looks like a kerchief!
  • Itty Bitty Micro Scarf – This knit necklace is almost like a super skinny scarf! Make a bunch in different colors and layer them for an extra fun (and extra warm) look.
  • Tissue Knit Necklace – Add beads to tissue knit fabric for a true scarf-necklace hybrid.

It’s All in the Wrist: Crochet and Knit Bracelets

It can get a little chilly in the office during this dreary time of year, but I’d have a pretty tough time typing if I wore mittens at my desk all day. I could definitely use a Granny Square Bracelet like this one to cushion my keyboard. This cute crochet cuff is like a tiny afghan for your wrist!

I just love this Keeland Knit Bracelet. This cabled, braided cuff would look cute alone or layered with more knit bangles. You could even extend this versatile pattern into a necklace.

Shrunk your sweater in the dryer? Slip on a couple of these crochet and knit bracelets to extend your short sleeves:

  • Colorful Crocheted Bracelets – With the button closure, they’re like cute little cuff cardigans!
  • Beaded Friendship Bracelet – Share the warmth with a pal.
  • Crochet Bangle Bracelet – Reinvent your existing jewelry with this crochet tutorial.

This is just the tip of the iceberg! There are a bunch of other crochet and knit jewelry patterns over at AllFreeBeadedJewelry.com. Season-appropriate accessories like these will keep you feeling warm and looking hot all through the winter months!

Tell us, would you wear any of these crochet and knit jewelry patterns? Do you have a preference between crochet and knit jewelry?
