8 Adorable Rainbow Loom Animals Your Kids Will Adore

Rainbow Loom Elephant CharmRainbow Loom is such a great idea for kids who love to go outside the box with their crafting. It’s so crazy to even think how we are now able to create cute little Rainbow Loom animals out of something as simple as rubber bands, and oh boy is this craft idea addictive. I currently have several different Rainbow Loom animals decorating my keys and random places around my house. I love learning new patterns, especially when they’re as cute as the Rainbow Loom Elephant Charm. This Rainbow Loom pattern was even easier for me to conquer because there was an amazing video that took me step by step through the process.

The great thing about Rainbow Loom is that it can definitely keep kids entertained for hours. I mean it’s almost impossible to get bored over these neat design ideas. My little niece is actually the one who showed me how to make my first Rainbow Loom animal. We both decided that the Slithering Rainbow Loom Snakes pattern was the way to go because it’s a little easier on beginners. We had a lot of fun working on this little project together. So if you’re looking for some bonding time ideas with your kids, this activity is definitely a great idea. They will love being able to teach their parents what they learned how to do.

Darling Daisy Easter Ornaments

eggs3

Show your Easter spirit with these cute studded clay ornaments! These fun DIY decor pieces are a great way to add a bit of sparkle and shine around your home, and the spring flowers add a cheerful touch! It’s an easy technique of cutting clay using cookie cutters, and then simply pressing in studs before baking.

egg2

You can really make these ornaments any color you’d like, and use them to hang on indoor plants, on a fireplace, doorknobs, or drapes. Get creative with these! I also like to hang these from a light fixture over your Easter dinner table. The bright silver studs add a modern touch to otherwise traditional decorations.

DSC_0097

Step 1: Gather materials. You will need polymer clay (oven bake — I use Sculpey or Fimo), fine glitter, an assortment of mini cookie cutters or clay cutters (find at a food specialty store like Sur la Table or a craft store like Michaels) – I used an egg shape and then mini flower shapes – small studs (these were iron-on studs I found at Michaels), and finally organza ribbon for your top tie.

DSC_0100

Step 2: Make the glitter accents first. Roll out one color of clay until it’s about 1/4″ thick. Press and rub on glitter to the top surface until it’s adhered and sticking, covering the entire surface.

DSC_0101

Step 3: Press down the cookie cutter and cut out your first flower.

DSC_0103

Step 4: To cut more flowers, simply re-roll clay, add more glitter, and cut out.

DSC_0104

I used three flowers per ornament.

DSC_0105

Step 5: Roll out your base clay until it’s about 1/2″ thick. Use your egg cutter to cut your shape.

DSC_0106

Step 6: Line the outer edge with studs, pressing them down to embed them in the clay. Smooth out any imperfections in the clay.

DSC_0108

Step 7: Press your three flowers on top of the egg, firmly but gently to make sure they adhere to the surface.

Step 8: Press studs into the center of the flowers. Poke a hole at top, and bake about 30 minutes at 125 degrees or according to package. When cooled, tie organza ribbon at top to create the ornament!

Perfect for a kid’s craft, anyone can have fun making these home decor DIY pieces!! Mix colors (I’d stick with pastels) for a very Easter-type scheme.

Jurassic Park Dinosaur Crafts and DIY Costumes for Kids

In lieu of the newest installment of the Jurassic Park series, your kids (and most likely you) are jumping up and down in excitement for the improved CGI graphics. As you should be! It’s been a long haul since the first movie came out. Universal Studios still has a portion of their theme-park dedicated to the incredible water ride where a T-Rex ends up eating you; when in reality you feel like you fall to your death, finally being soaking wet. I wonder what they will do to the park with the “Raptor Squad” being a thing with Christ Pratt on his motorcycle. Anyway, I’m sure your child is wanting to go see the movie. At your own discretion, parents, by all means go see the movie. But you don’t want your kid to just go in a t-shirt. No, they need an awesome, easy kid’s costume or dino craft to prepare themselves for an incredible movie.

Jurassic World Inspired Crafts

Honestly, I haven’t even seen the movie yet. Though from the record-breaking box office money made the first weekend alone, I feel like my chances of it being really good are, well, really good. I will also admit that it is not until very recently that I saw the first movie in its entirety. Oh, I know. It’s been on TV for forever and a day, but I never had any interest in seeing it. No, I haven’t seen the other two movies in the series, but I have been advised not to do so. I was told by a little pterodactyl that they were the equivalent to how good Jaws 2 and Jaws 3-D are. To each their own.

You’re going to have a roaring-great time making these dinosaur crafts for kids to do. I love the homemade dinosaur hoodie which would be paired great with the homemade tail that wraps around your child’s waist. You don’t have to make these just for the movie! Dinosaur crafts and dinosaur sewing are super awesome ways to get your child into play time and create their own Jurassic world. (See what I did there?)

Rainbow Loom Patterns: What Are Those Things

I went home this weekend for my sister’s bachelorette party. Now, I don’t mind airports. I don’t mind getting through security and waiting in the terminal for my flight. I do mind when I actually get on the plane and actually fly. I know. I’m weird. Sue me for being claustrophobic and being 33k feet in the air. Anyways, while I was waiting to board the flight, I noticed a family sitting a few rows ahead of me. The youngest had this plastic thing in one hand that looked like a bunch of cut off test tubes and a needle-pokey-thing in the other. I swear I stared at this girl for a good 10 minutes trying to figure out what this thing was! (Yes, I eventually got caught.) That weird thing and what she was making was a Rainbow Loom design, otherwise known to make rubber band bracelets.

Rainbow Loom Patterns and Designs: What Are Those Things

Rubber Band Bracelets

Apparently these are all the rage with the kids and in classrooms. I must have been living under a rock because kids are doing so much stuff with these and I didn’t even know about it. They are mostly intended for rubber band bracelets, but once you get the basic process down, you can make anything and everything with this easy kids craft. The patterns give people of all ages a bit of a brain teaser and keep your hands busy, while it is still simple enough that kindergarten teachers are using it in their classrooms to train fine motor skills.

Just to show you how intense these easy kids craft projects can turn into, I highly encourage you to check out the story of an 11-year old girl from Northhamtonshire, England, who made a dress out of loomed rubber bands. Yes. You read that right. She created the first adult-sized loom dress in England. It took her over 80 hours and 24,000 rubber bands to create this incredible dress. She sold it on eBay for 150£ to earn money for her vacation.

Loom LadderThis is a loom ladder. It looks like cut off test tubes to me. But the sides of it are open, so you can grab the rubber bands with ease and precision. You can buy these at your local craft store, most likely in the kids’ section. The kits should come with some starter rubber bands.

Rubber BandsThese are the rubber bands. They look like the kind they give you for braces, but don’t worry, these won’t go anywhere near your pearly whites. They come in a variety of different colors so you or your child will be able to make one for every color of the rainbow!

HookYour most important tool is the needle-pokey-thing. In real life, it’s just called a hook. This will help you weave and connect the rubber bands on the loom.

So get your rainbow loom, and start banding everything together! These are some great starter rubber band loom patterns if you’re not quite up to the dress making level.
